I've got a question I cannot find the answer anywhere on the internet regarding pulley systems. The weakest part of the system is the most important. And no one talks about the rope strength.
    Q. If you have a tow rope with an exact breaking strain of, say 1000 pounds, would the rope be able to lift a weight of 4000 pounds with a 4 to 1 mechanical advantage? Or
would the rope still only be able to lift 1000 pounds (as all the rope weights at each pully are in series and are added up to still give a maximum strain on the rope of 4000 pounds)?
(You would have to test the ACTUAL breaking strain as most rope breaks at a much higher amount than what they publish).
    What is the answer.

Can this set up be used for hoisting an aerialist up and down during a performance? Would you need the rescue 8 or would the rigging team hold the rope on one end? Thanks!

Hey really good video! I can't rly afford a proper rig but I'm thinking of putting a pulley system in my yard on a very solid tree for a few trainings (I can almost see the disapproving faces). But how could I do that safely enough? I could hang safety also in different parts of the house cause the tree is fairly close to the house..

Pls help an aerialist who's desperate to train xp

Plz don’t rig from trees. It’s super dangerous. Check out the group safety in aerial arts on fb

I had a professional arborist with rigging experience come and hang a tree swing. I was surprised by how much thought and analysis goes into rigging ANYTHING from a tree. He verified the species, approximate age, and analyzed where we wanted the swing to hang from. He rigged up his own gear, climbed the tree and did some further analysis on how to properly rig the swing. We thought "what's the big deal? It's a tree swing... just hang it from that massive branch!" The big deal is... that you have no idea how strong that branch is especially to dynamic forces like swinging and dropping. He actually rigged it to the trunk and over the branch so a lot of the load is shared with the trunk instead of just 'hanging it from a big branch'.
My point is... you really need a professional at some level. Either a professional to build a rig so you have a safe place to hang from or a professional to inspect that tree and provide a safe rigging point. Same as if you were to hang it from a structure like a house or barn; you need a professional to analyze where it's safe to rig from with the forces you will be generating.

@@xristinaatss It's not a good idea. Generating thousands of lbs of force on tree branches, even if rigged correctly by an arborist, still presents a significant increase of risk. Though it can be done, doing it right would be more expensive than buying a rig since you would have to re-assess by a professional after every use. It might not be what you want to hear and I understand that frustration, but please be safe! ❤❤❤

Can this pulley system be used with other rigs who aren’t circus gear?

when i was pulling my silks up and down, the rope kept twisting at the top near the pulley system. its not tangled but it gets really frustrating. any way to fix this?

its because the rescue eight device introduced some twists in the rope. That style of rappel device will do that, another device you can use that wont twist the rope is a Petzl RIG but thats more expensive.

Ive been looking for footage of people flying, and flipping through the air, using a waste mounted harness attached to cables, like the use in Hollywood movies. I was looking for footage of such activities for evidence of their existence. Can't find any at all. Anyone have any ideas?
