I am from Zimbabwe,I like this music I grew up in a farm and every Sunday this music was played in a Public beer hall and we could dance until mid night and go to bed with all the dust.kkkk
Hello to Kenya from The United State of America you have beautiful benga just found this while I was watching an episode of "Let's Go Luna " on PBS 2/1/2023. The episode is called " Beat the Beat" this shows a little bit about the Benga 🎶 🎵 ⏹️ 🪕 🎼 music .
This is just from one country in East Africa called Kenya. You can imagine the number if you walked from one country to another among the 54 countries. Just to sample, look for Congolese rhumba. It is among the most popular.
Now this is it...just eating the breeze on a rock somewhere with that radio piercing through that still air...we good! DAMN....my childhood...don't break my heart mate (in a good way).
I love benga music we used to call it Kanindo am not too sure whether that the right name for reminds me of my youth this was the inspirational music we used to play during our armed struggle for independence in Zimbabwe..... beautiful stuff!!!
Kanindo was the producer of most Benga Musicians and he was the first and last to promote his clients beyond the Kenyan borders. He had his name on all the records he produced, so in essence, you were right to call them "Kanindo" productions.
Chris Oluoch Kanindo used to be the recording studio and producer of the music. At one point he was a member of parliament in the 80s and he also had a bakery supplying Nyanza region of Kenya
Yes, Oluoch Kanindo, a popular Kenyan politician and businessman those days. He used to export Kenyan music to Zim and West Africa(Nigeria). It influenced the development of sungura music in Zim.
Benga rhythm is based on the nyatti instrument. The first Benga was based on the Kibuishi beat. In the late 70s Benga also mixed with rhumba, this makes it sound similar. Congolese rhumba/soukous inspired many rhythms.
Because Rumba was big and many Congolese lived or performed in Kenya, stylistic elements of Benga (typically by Luo of Kenya) became incorporated into Rumba, lending to the new style Soukous. Of course, Kenyans love Rumba and they also incorporated some elements of Rumba into their style...
Wow reminds me a lot of highlife. Nice music
Bono Super, Nairobi, Oh Lucy, these were some of my favorite music of the 70th.

Super bon a ecouter. Rhytm et cadence homogenes
This is benga music
This is not rhumba and it did not start in congo
Congolese Rhumba ended up borrowing Benga (Luo, Kenya) style (in the 70s) because many Rhumba artists lived or performed in Kenya.

is there a difference between Benga music and Soukous? this sounds like Soukous
