I enjoyed this video , very informative information on your family history. I came over from TikTok , I’ve binge watched your videos there and it’s one of my most favorite pages to visit! The fireproof storage cabinet is an wonderful idea. Thank you for allowing a look into your life. This is fascinating! 👍
I'm so glad that you're paying attention to the metadata of the items you're scanning! Every bit of information you can identify on each item, can and should be included in the metadata. Just make sure that you create a list, so you always use the same term for the same things. That's absolutely vital. For example, if you were cataloguing correspondence, you wouldn't enter in the metadata "letter" on one item, "ltr" on another, "note" on another, and "correspondence" on another. You'd pick a term and stick to it. The reason for this, is someone in the future won't necessarily know all the various terms you will have used, but if you stick to what is on the list, they will. 😊 You can also "stack" your terms, so you can do "correspondence" for everything that is correspondence, including things like with lawyers, tax offices, etc so it's more specific, and then also make sure to enter dates, participants etc. The reason for all the information being captured separately, is because then someone can say look for everything from Lloyd's of London, by just searching with the name as a single search-term and get everything for them of all types, or you can search for Lloyd's of London + 1920, or Lloyd's of London + damage; Alberta + yoga + photograph, or photograph + Hinchingbrook + Christmas + 1935 etc. It would also be more modern-day things, like when the RUclips account was created, so something like "American Viscountess + 2020 + Julie Montagu + COVID-19" and then with those terms you can also apply some of them to other things, like "COVID-19 + revenue + weddings", "Julie Montagu + projects + Italy". I can help you get the hang of that, if it's something you haven't done yet. It's a lot to think about when you first start, but becomes pretty fun (at least I think so), when you get it right, and know that someone 200 years from now can find out what was served in the café during the maker's market, and even more fun if there are photos and/or video!
I can imagine your immediate & extended family thoroughly enjoying each new story that you unfold or bring to life. I recently went to a family reunion where people were fascinated by tiny snippets of history and stories passed down or from letters. Your extended family must waiting with bated breath for your next instalment on your fascinating history that’s so interesting for your family and British history!!
Thank you Julie for sharing the precious photograph albums in your family's collection. I wish you continued success on the research you are doing for your dissertation. It is always a joy to watch your videos.
I just loved seeing your family photos❤! Heartwarming to see and hear the memories of history and so thankful you're sharing this with all of us! The room is just splendid and has a warmth to it! Beautiful! I'm looking forward to your next video!!!!
Yes! ... a fireproof cabinet!! I am so happy to see this! .... Also ..I am so happy the original window now is visible from behind the wall!! Very happy to see the photos of Alberta at Hinchingbrooke . Excellent historic preservation and research! Did the Montague family ever have any connections to the Inchiquin family at Dromoland in Ireland? I just read in the Irish Times and the sad new that Lord Inchiquin Conor O'Brien has passed away at Thomond House a few days ago . He had an amazing life with amazing lineage. Stay well all!
Hi Julie, I’m from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺 and just worked out that the 4th Earl sponsored the voyages of James Cook who discovered Australia and honoured his sponsor by naming the Sandwich Islands (now Hawaii) after him. Cook lost his life in the Sandwich Islands in a later expedition. Certainly left his mark, chocolate icecream, sandwiches, Hawaii and Australia 👍🏻👍🏻
I have alot of pics and letters and items and address books and a Family Bible of my granddad from philadelphia - I loved going thru these items and piecing together family history. I also have family photos and written down history and researched what boat my great grandmom came over in from Watford England. It is a treasure map and I one day will get back to doing our family history (can't do it with a 2 year old lol) I am loving seeing your story come to life with pics and letters.
You have my dream job. Not being a viscountess but being the archivist for such a collection. Photos are one of my first loves of the preservation field and some of my fondest memories of working in various places cataloging and IDing photo contents. I am so glad to find this channel. hope to someday be able to help you out with virtual transcription.
What an eye-opener that Yoga was even practiced in the west that long ago! The idea of women playing croquet on the lawn or stuffed into a corset, taking a stroll with a parasol is about the only image of women's freedom to exercise we get these days, so thank you so much for that
Boy, I get overwhelmed with my different family members researching them. Your dusting off hundreds of years with this family! Enjoying your videos! Thanks for sharing 😊
It would be helpful for you to describe the culture of the upper class of that era, especially regarding childcare as infants were cared for, kept close to and nursed by their mothers beyond the first year. Only under exceptional circumstances did this not occur and this was the first child, a son to boot. These last 2 facts, in particular, make me wonder why Billy’s mother would leave her son for such an extended period of time. It’s understandable why they might not want to take him to India, but the fact that the mother left her son to accompany her husband on a business trip is a bit puzzling. After all, this was not for a few days but a few months. I’ve only heard of royalty doing something akin and am unfamiliar with wealthy Americans leaving their infants for extended periods of time. If you could provide a context for this seemingly acceptable practice that would be helpful.
My Lady Hinchingbrooke. I adore the videos you present and share with the public, they are informative and delightful. You are a true figure of your personage. I ❤the Montagu’s
Oh Julie its so fun to see this all progressing now! I miss the Wednesdays but am SO excited with all your doings!! I am so glad to participate in your world and will be praying you on!!! I dont know if you knew my sister Jen who is a bit more into this than i am at tge moment is my sister! My sister Kari who lives up near Jennifer has also come on board and weve had fun keeping your doings up to date! I have to say becoming a Patron has been on my to do list soon!! Take care 😊
I love your diction and thay I can hear a slight British accent forming on some words you say like "beautiful." I've always loved the British accent. ❤️
Im a Fan. Living in Your Home Town. Put Your Pearls On. We Dont Want Anyone to Think Were Poor. An American Viscountess Should Wear Her Pearls for the Camera. Especially for the Coloring Adoring the What Ever You Call it Room. Patients. Motaviation Single Strand Pearls.
How strange, I lived in Chalfont, Bucks County PA for a while in the early 80's. I've said this before and we can't possibly know for sure, but, I, with all my soul, believe you are Alberta reincarnated. I love this series you are doing on her and your muniment room. Well done!!
I’m curious how the different homes/estates were named. Was there a standard that was followed, did the estate have to have certain criteria, or did families just decide they wanted to name their homes? This series has really been interesting.
How exciting! Isn’t it wonderful to have the visual element of where, how and with whom she lived and visited! Did George play the piano? It looked like he was seated at a piano there. That muniment room looks fantastic! Love the greens.
it’s so amazing that Alberta’s chronicles came to light with you, it seems meant to be, and i think she’d be very pleased that they are being saved from the ravages of time properly. why did she save them all is a question that comes to mind at once, surely a very busy woman with a huge house and household to run, and children, yet she purposefully recorded in picture and correspondence all of their lives, doing as much as getting letters back that she’d sent to have a complete picture of their life at the time. i think she understood in a spiritual way that time would have continuity and that this would have meaning in the future, she had faith in the family and that they would endure, and indeed they have.
Such interesting work here and your four children will appreciate this when they have their own families. Fascinated to know what Alberta et al wore when practicing their yoga?
Hi Julie, do you believe in reincarnation, the similarities between you and Alberta are uncanny. I am so happy you are doing this, and I cannot wait for your dissertation. Alberta was such an extraordinary woman. The history of your in-laws is fascinating. You are doing an amazing job, chronicling their history. Well done. Love from N.Y.
This was what I was trying to say to you previously. Frank built the Ridgley House AFTER Clematis Cottage which was Francis' FIRST home on the exact same road and Ridgle is just down Leggett Rd. I had been told by the owner a few years back Iris Friedlander that Betty had become fond of the Margaret Mitchell story that was fashionable ~ Gone With The Wind & so it was why the house was very much in that fashion. But that could not have been right and that was why you were so politely not exactly in agreeance but did not correct me I guess as to not embarrass me. That was kindly as I believe I was not told an accurate story by Iris. I know every inch of that house I hope you get to go inside it someday it is fascinating.
I may have missed this, but did you contact the Sturgis family to see if Alberta may have sent all the pictures that she took of Billie to them? It seems logical that they may have wanted as many pictures as possible during the time that he was with her, especially after he died.
Another question:Have you ever had your 🧬done to see where your past relatives came from….. I had my 🧬cked and it said 💯% Northwestern European I was pleasantly surprised and very Happy 😊 because I’m so obsessed with Europe and it’s lovely history…….so was my Grandmother 👵 she would visit Europe all the time…😌🙏🏻🇺🇸
VIDEO IDEA: How many rooms are at Mapperton. Could you do a video on just how many rooms there actually are, and sub-topics ... how many you have renovated or done repair/updates on... or secret rooms ... secret passageways. More not the architecture. Or, is this a WHOLE DOCUMENTARY topic --- hahahahaha
Julie - Was Alberta an 'American dollar princess', that is a wealthy American woman of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who married into a titled European family, exchanging cash for class / an aristocratic title? This part of history was recently shown in "Downton Abbey".
Unable to scroll and locate your video on Billy and what happened to him. Would you be able to link videos you are referring to in the description box so we can click and go directly to that video and learn of what you are referring to (in this case, Billy’s tragic death). This sounds very sad for the family. Would you be able to link it in this comment section so we can find that video please? Thank you.
Have you heard the story of the Countess of Rothes who was one of the first class passengers on the Titanic? She has a very interesting story and was one of the background characters in the 1997 Titanic film. Her character was played by Rochelle Rose
Your annunciation with the letter T goes on and off as in litter and Alberta it is really distracting sorry if this is an interesting subject, but just be natural please
You have certainly blessed this family by preserving their lives. Well done, you!
Love hearing about Albeta and the family.
I so enjoyed seeing the photographs. You are doing a brilliant job Julie, you have done Alberta proud.
I love you guys❤❤❤You and Vicount Luke are doing such a lovely job with Mapperton!

Love seeing that enormous fireproof cabinet in the corner of the muniment room and the CZUR scanner! 👏🏻👏🏻
Wonderful that Alberta labeled all the photographs so carefully.
Congratulations from Brookfield Illinois. Your energy is endless and I admire your love of Mapperton. Alberta’s life will not be forgotten.
I enjoy historical documentation and hope all who can, do preserve the information at estates of the previous generations. Thank you for sharing. 😊

I love these videos. It's wonderful that you are preserving photos, paintings, rooms. Alberta would be proud!
What I learnt through Alberta’s photo album was that sis was an aesthetic girlie. Creating physical Pinterest mood boards over a century ago? Iconic!
I am from South Africa and I think you are an amazing woman. It's strange that you are so similar to Alberta. History repeating itself.
I love old photographs. I think they tell a story in a way our photos do not.

Interesting search results online for Ridgely and Chalfont Lodge!
Delightful- thank you!
I love this episode.
Was Chalfont lodge in Buckinghamshire there are photos of the building online re 'Chalfknt lodge 1906 maybe same!
Sad that the lodge was pulled down. Would like to see more pictures of it if possible. Thanks
❤hearing all the updates on Alberta!
Thank you for sharing this. It’s so very interesting.
This is so wonderful I would also love it if you would use closeups for Albertha’s wedding photos and others. Thanks
Love these! Do you have much information on Lady Elizabeth and Lady Faith, Alberta's daughters?
That is so cool to have those photo's.

After you scan the photos, there is software where you just click one button, and it corrects the colors and age spots.

When are getting a portrait painted Julie?

The Alberta project is fascinating. Thank you for sharing. By the way. How do you spell munument?
What is the thesis/argument/theme of your dissertation? A general bio of Alberta or something more tightly focused? Fascinating!
So many memories. How do you pick what does in fire proof safe?
Yes Julie did u both also support the cubs or the white Sox??

Ah! Muniment! I knew her well!

Does the Ridglely Manor House still stand ?
❤❤❤❤❤
If they get digitally scanned, why not send the photos at Ridgely to the current owners? Apparently it's been a meditative retreat since the 1990's!
❤
Could you explain the name of that room?
Have you heard the story of the Countess of Rothes who was one of the first class passengers on the Titanic?
She has a very interesting story and was one of the background characters in the 1997 Titanic film. Her character was played by Rochelle Rose
I think you are the reincarnation of Alberta 🥰
Who is the baby Alberta is holding while he(her) is bouncing on the railing?
Omg you might be her, reincarnated
You are the reincarnation. You look alike.
Julie- if you believe in reincarnation, you ARE Alberta!!!
