- Since publication of the novel ‘Jaws’ and later the massive movie blockbuster, sharks have been framed as the evil villains of the sea. Director Steven Spielberg recently expressed his deep regret on the impact his movie has had on global shark populations.
Marine biologist Hannah Rudd wants to set the record straight about the reality of sharks and their importance to our world.
Hannah Rudd is a marine scientist and writer based in Suffolk. Her first book Britain’s Living Seas: Our Coastal Wildlife & How We Can Save It, published by Bloomsbury Publishing in collaboration with the Wildlife Trusts, highlights the hidden gems in our seas and how we can all be everyday marine conservationists. Often overlooked and undervalued she wants to get people excited by our coastline and encourage them to forge their own connection with its salty depths.

As a marine expert, Hannah has been featured regularly on television and radio networks, including the BBC and Science Channel. She has worked in global shark hotspots and currently works with recreational anglers in the UK. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
"If animals told horror stories, we would be the monsters." I forget who said it.
But forget the predators who eat the smaller fish right
humans tell the stories for them because animals lack the ability
If a snake had wings, it would be a dragon.
If anyone told the story the other will be the monster😅.
For a long time now, i've been calling Sharks "the janitors of the sea". They do a vital but thankless job
This Ted Talk is at the right time, so many incidents with sharks been in the media lately in a negatice light, but sharks are so important for our ocean life
I think sharks are like wolves in the ocean. Sea puppies, tbh. There are so many instances of biologists or divers who build a relationship with a specific shark- they seem genuinely intrigued by us more than finding us appetizing. People forget how scary humanity can be from an objective point.
Tonight is the first night of shark week!
“Do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know the side you are used to is better than the one to come?“ - Rumi.
The next time worry finds you, ask yourself Rumi’s question. Trade anxiety for curiosity. Breathe in. And keep going.
‘The Shark Is Broken’ is opening on Broadway.
Perfect timing, indeed. I have always had this deep respect/fear for the ocean but after learning about oceanography, Jacques Cousteau exploration and current deterioration of the global marine ecosystem, my perspective has been greatly transformed. It's imperative to point out that sharks, are more likely to come to shore as the heat of the ocean forces them out and the orcas keep killing them. So, it's very likely that we may have to adopt a different approach to how we deal with them. More importantly, reassess their intrinsic value as a protected species.
We should not fear , only respect
They are one of the most beautiful creatures ever !!!
Sharks are alot like me; often misunderstood beings trying to make their way through this life the best they can!
podrán ponerle subtítulos?? Gracias.
10:33 Good point. Talking is cheap, Stevey.
Making sharks into the bad guys or enemies makes it easier to excuse the occasional shark in fishing nets.
Jaws are movie title, those rare occurrence happened, and she wouldn't say this if this rare occurrence happened to her
I couldn’t agree more. Sharks are just doing what they have always done.
All signs suggest that 2023 will be a year of severe economic pain, I was really hopeful of my investments this year, but all my plans have been disoriented. I've been studying the market crashes and I realized some investors made a fortune from the recent recession and I was wondering if such success rate could be achieved in this present market. I'm open to ideas about investing for retirement.
The first step to successful investing is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a professional but is very advisable you make use of a professional like I did. If you get the facts about saving, investing and follow through with an intelligent plan, you should be able to gain financial security over the years and enjoy the benefits of managing your money.
The stock market rally run is gone, but I'm not
sure if equities will swiftly recover, keep falling. or fluctuate in a narrow range for a few weeks, or if things will quickly get worse. I'm under pressure to increase my $300k reserve.
Please I need someone to help me trade or invest the forex or crypto market because I'm tired of trading in losses myself. I've blown my account twice and it's frustrating.
I have played Maneater and studied jaws and deep blue sea so i can say with full authority that she is joking.
I recently saw a multi part documentary about sharks .. It was called Sharknadeo. You are absolutely right.
I think they are re making jaws
With friends like sharks, who needs enemies.
❤🇳🇵
BRUHH
Why sharks are not the enemy?
Because they invest in our emerging business
Sharks *can* be an enemy, because they tend to kill you if you're near them. But humans are far better at killing humans than sharks.
How you know for sure if the "wanted" to kill you ?...
I'm betting anyone born later then 1990 doesn't know what "Jaws" is good movies, If people are killing sharks because of those movies its not Steven Spielberg's fault. It's the muggles.
sharks are our enemy. and we should eat them as they contain alot of meat.
We do eat them, we kill a hundred million or more every year just to make soup from their fins. Meanwhile they keep our oceans healthy and rarely kill people.
If she really cared about sharks she'd have worn a bikini like Barbie.
Yes…they are nice…but they kill
so can many animals but few are demonised like sharks are. Shark attacks, not all fatal, are fewer than dog attacks
E
Umm no
🇧🇷🌵
We should ban making films about shark as enemies!!!!!
" sHaRk iNfEsTeD wAtErS"

These talks are so stpd.
