As someone who once lived in Russia I can tell you right now you are cherry picking which places to go in order to make it out that Russian metro is a lot better. If you go outside the St Petersburg-Moscow railway region and into some of the southern and eastern Oblasts. You will see plenty of metro's that are similar or worse then anything you would see in LA or NYC.

@Wild-Siberia inside the metro, it's a whole jungle. Trust me when I see it's very unpleasant, dirty and smelly. It's also not safe in the train. Security can't be everywhere. Should have interviewed a daily rider, and it would be a different story. I think you hopped in on a weekday morning. Also people are paid to clean these stations and streets every morning 3-5 AM which is the only reason they look clean as the day progresses they get VERY dirty.

Moscow Metro is more faster and convenient, especially during morning and evening rush hour (although it's very crowded). But in some situations transportation by car is better and faster (e.g. at night, when the metro is closed, or from one outskirt to another, for example, from south-western to south-eastern, because by metro it'll take 2 times longer the same route). Even if you don't have own car, but have your driving license, you can use carsharing service, that is actually cheaper now than taxi.

Aaaand hello again from Siberia. 8) Something to add about numbers of people using metro in LA and Moscow. Just to be honest and objective. Population of LA - almost 4 million people - while Moscow has slightly over 13 million, and it's only stable population - I mean those who live in city. Also there's such called daily migration (or pendulum migration) - those people who live in cities and even in the nearest regions around but work in Moscow. Those can reach several millions a day - which makes total population up to 16-18 mln. It's 4+ times more than in LA. That overloads the road system, provokes traffic jams and ofc people prefer to use fast and reliable metro rather than waisting hours in jams. So... Just add 4 times more of people to LA - and they will fall in love with their metro, for sure. And trains will ride much more often. And the security guards will appear at the entrance (I suspect nowadays it's just cheaper to leave those gates open than hiring some policemen to make those skaters pay for entrance).

    • @mrxman581
      @mrxman581 6 месяцев назад

The gate that was accidentally left open is for wheelchair users, but people sneak in illegally. LA Metro has increased security to help with fare evading.
BTW, the trains come more often especially in the station he was at where they run every 4 minutes during peak hours.
Also, LA Metro is responsible for not only the city but LA County too which has a population of 10 million and covers an area of about 4800 square miles. It's very spread out which is one big reason most people drive.

It's strange that you didn't know that there is a Metro in your city)
It’s just that if I were a tourist in LA, I would try to explore the whole city in a week :D
Unfortunately, I was not able to explore Moscow even in a month... the city is too huge, in which it is very easy to get lost. As a result, the joints in my legs simply hurt... every day I walked 30 km, crazy for people who like to walk)
I will also add that Moscow will soon become even larger; in 2025, a large piece of the city of Lyubertsy with a population of 230,000 people will be added to it.

Bro, the ruble has risen in price against the dollar, 60 cents now with a Troika card, 70 cents with bank card, 72 cents for a usual ticket and 56 cents with Facepay (54, 61, 65 and 50 rubles, respectively). But the main thing is that this is all about the metro and the MCD. I was stunned when I found out that in New York you have to pay for a lines transfer. As I understand from the conversation, is it the same in LA? This point is not entirely clear.
I myself don't drive and don't know how, but with those I talked to, they use a car or the metro, depending on the situation, someone goes to the metro by car, and then transfers to the metro . Often, if you need to get somewhere to cross off metro lines, it’s faster by car. But sometimes, on the contrary, the metro goes where there is no road, and the detour takes an hour longer. In general, there is no universal recipe; everything depends on the route. At one time I worked as a courier: sometimes the routes I came across were so inconvenient that I took a taxi to save time, nerves and effort.
Regarding the intervals between trains - after midnight they can reach 11 minutes, be careful with this. I was so late for the train focusing, on the usual time.
You didn't touch on the topic of navigation at all. It was interesting to know how convenient it is there, do you have apps for your smartphone?
In general, it’s somehow sad that the city infrastructure itself forces people to have a car, without presenting a normal choice.

The LA Metro is growing every year. The first station only opened in 1990. The current system is 110 miles long with 101 stations.
You pay no more than $5 per day no matter how many times you use it, or $18 a week which includes the buses. Also, students ride for free, and for senior citizens it only costs 50 cents and $2.50 a day with unlimited rides.

In moscow the trains don't come every 30 seconds. I'd say it's 1:30 during rush hours (from one leaving till the next one opening doors), and up to, say, 15 minutes at night, about an hour before closing time.
Why didn't you buy just one card and record 2 tickets on it? In Moscow you could do that up to a point, then they introduced a cooldown of 5 minutes, because the controllers could check only the last entrance in buses, which use the same card. I don't know whether it's still the case now.
As for using the car, i stopped driving to work about 8 years ago, because i live in a suburb, and worked on the other side from the centre, so it would take me an hour and fifteen minutes by public transport every time, whereas sometimes i would drive back home for up to 3,5 hours, if the traffic was really bad. I'd like to keep what's left of my mental health, so i stopped, because some idiots on the road just get me absolutely triggered. I love driving, so i prefer to enjoy given an opportunity, rather than spoil it by turning it into a chore.
If there's parking, and it's about an up to 40 minute drive, i'd drive.
Some people i know, like some coworkers, despise crowds for whatever reason, so they drive from so far away time-wise, that i consider them properly weird.

Great video. Reminiscing of the past, I'd like to add that it wasn't always very safe in Moscow. Some 20-30 years ago it was less so. Back then there were bums and more litter in Moscow. I once got down to a subway station, like, at 6 am (Metro is usu. open 6 am - 1 am) on Tverskaya street and some 20 or 30 street walkers entered the same train car. That was kind of funny. Nowadays, there's no street walkers in Moscow. Things have changed a lot. Back in the 90s, we used subway tokens and many people were going through without paying. There were also a lot of casinos in Moscow. And if you needed a taxi, you could just raise your hand, and regular cars would stop and offer a lift for a small fee, especially if their destination was not way off from yours. It was literally, like, you raise your hand and each tenth car or so would stop and you could bargain for a cheap ride. No waiting, no calling anywhere, and no traffic jams in Moskva in the 90s! Can you imagine! So, it wasn't all that bad; it was kind of funny.
Weak points of Moscow: there are huge traffic jams just like in other huge major cities, cold snowy winters, air pollution but it's less severe than in other megalopolises around the world.

In Moscow, in metro stations the turnover of people is much higher, so the interval between trains is extremely small.

The LACMTA does have a lot of island platforms just like Moscow, only all but one are island platforms for the subways, while island platforms make up over half of a line for light rails. Also artwork depends on the line or station. The station you went to had very little artwork which formed a line on the walls, but some stations such as Universal, Hollywood Vine, and Wilshire Western has artwork which can take up most or the entire station. Some lines are themed too such as the Gold/E Line which has coastal and Spanish themes, or the Orange/G Line which has a bit of a clean corporate theme with artwork on boards or platform

I live in the Moscow region, work in Moscow, drive up to the subway and leave my car in the parking lot, get on the subway, go to work, it's much more convenient and faster and without traffic jams.

Many people do that in LA too. Many of the stations have parking lots.

There's nothing bad you can say about the LA metro. The stations are not particularly beautiful, but for a transport company it’s quite decent. Moscow also has shallow stations, mostly on the outskirts. There are also several stations on the surface, for example - Vykhino.

The LA Metro looks nice. Obviously it's no Moscow but when compared to the one in NY, it's pretty decent.

In Moscow I mostly walk, sometimes I use public transportation or taxi.

The war memorials in Chicago, a lot of them were paid for by fraternal groups. then gifted to the city. They would have a huge fund raiser for the base of a statue. then a second fund raiser for the statue itself. Fraternal groups declined after television was introduced
