Dude you give us really amazing material that no one else is doing, you talk to really incredibly fascinating people and you do all of this for free, and in the end you say "please and thank you". You're a really cool man, Warren! Cheers and thank YOU!
Agreed, Warren hands down has the best producing and studio guide channel. Basically Warren + Pensado is all you need for legit interview and knowledge.
I loved how he recognizes the people who are experts in the various fields - of course he's an expert at the drums and usually an expert in one area respects / appreciates one in another area.
Hi Jed, that's very gracious of you! I think Kenny like us doesn't consider himself an expert, he sees himself as a musician who loves his craft and still improving and growing, just like all of the greats!!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I'm not that old (at least I don't consider myself that old) but when I was trying to learn about audio all you guys were unreachable to me. Not only that but to actually know about someone, you had to read those small letters on the backs of the recordings, since there weren't any magazines in my country that covered that feild. And now, only few years later I'm watching this and it seems so unreal because my "heroes" are actually sharing their ideas and opinions, explaining stuff etc. Warren, I don't know if I ever told you this, but I'll say it again, you're THE MAN!
Great walkthrough and breakdown. Love Kenny’s openness to equipments/placement experimentation. As a pro drummer with a long career in the best studios with top artists, he does not not seem to have gotten married to any particular idea or equipment - only to producing top-notch recordings. Sounds great! Thanks for the tour and all the great insights.
Kenny is the absolute best. I had the pleasure of assisting my mentor, when I was already in the first chair, on a Kenny session and man what a great guy. One of, if not my favorite person to work with. So freaking cool and down to earth. Glad he’s got a good set up and kicking ass still, and he looks great. Same as he did in 1999 when I worked with him. Cheers.
As a fellow seasoned drummer who is often mystified by the myriad of studio recording equipment choices, this YT channel has provided such ease of knowledge gain and insight into how it all comes together. Kenny is up there in my list of drumming idols and this video is just brilliant on learning how and what he uses to get his great sound. Thank you so much for all you do Warren!
I am sitting here in 2020 preparing to get a quote on some mics for my kit that I had already decided upon and then remembered this video, so have gone back and I am now pondering a few changes. I am not sure how soon you will see this Warren but being the drummer/engineer/producer I need to be able to do things from the kit like setting up the channels and/or simply pushing record and stop on my DAW. I am totally in the box at this stage so a digital desk? a laptop? Help. Kenny is one of my favourite drummers and this was a tremendous insight into not only the mechanics but the man himself. Excellent interview for drummers that are doing this! cheers my friend
Kenny Aronoff has gained a lot of prestige over the years. It's interesting to see how he is surviving in a world of recording today where the big budgets simply no longer exist and everyone is "making tracks." At least he's got the best equipment for it.
OMG! Really, bless you for this AWESOME inside the magic interview. This should win some type of an award. Kenny is just a humble gear geek and professional!
What a fantastic video! Thanks to both Warren and Kenny for a fun and informative video series. Your talent, kindness, and mutual admiration and respect is clearly represented here.
Great conversations here...worth listening over. Kenny has quite a nice clean, quality set up…from the room, drums, choice of mics, pres. comps, etc. Thanks for sharing Warren…lots of golden nuggets here. Cheers!
Hi Thomas Herbert thank you ever so much! Yes Kenny is amazing and I was truly blessed with being able to talk with him! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
He gets a lot of work not because he's a good solid diverse player but because he's an easy going and reliable person. Everyone in that biz knows Kenny and everyone likes him. That's why he gets gigs and works so much. And he can prepare shit very very quick
Please check out my new video with Drumming legend Kenny Aronoff. Kenny shows us his studio and gives us his tips on recording drums. Please let me know what you think, many thanks Warren
Just another awesome video. Love Kenny's quote on making sure you nail the quality of what's coming in first otherwise "You'll just be fixing up something thats not right". spot on!
Hi +mnegline1971 Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Yes agreed with Kenny on that 100%!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Best fucking channel on RUclips. This is absolutely right about uniqueness and EZDrummer. Everybody is using sample libraries. There is so much more character with micing a drumset.
We should all be paying you two for just the first 6 minutes, I loved it. Great insights and I'm glad you kept that part in there. As always, it's great to see the details like specific frequency boosts and cuts, and mic names. As a drummer and music maker this video is perfect, and you two get along well, kenny accepts and deflects compliments with great tact.
This is incredible. I'm fortunate to have done many sessions with great session players up here in Toronto. To get insights from a drummer like Kenny and his perspective on drum recording, invaluable! Another great video.
Hi Warren. I loved his interview. The way you went into detail about Kenny Aronoff's room, his mics, his drum kit, and his pres. Very impressive and great chain. thank you much. Best regards Diego
It's really refreshing to see someone from a different standpoint on production who is not actually a mixer, gives some more insight on how other professions in the industry see things :)
I Watch your channel all the time Warren, I want to personally thank you for creating it and sharing your skill with us, its very much appreciated my friend !!!

Hey Kenny & Warren. Great video guys! Love the honesty and the talk about getting it done even on a tight budget. Kenny very cool studio bro! Keep rockin!!
Dude, I’ve been going deep into my new drum room, this was exactly what I was needing to hear.... thanks SO much! LOVE Kenny, and I’m all over your channel now, thanks again!
i love how kenny actually likes to talk. it seems like alot of the video's warren is trying to keep the video going this guy is like this is this that is that. its awsome... beautiful job warren!!!
Hi Cristián Urrutia Thanks very much for your comment I really appreciate it! Yes Kenny rules, great guy and a great drummer! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks
Warren I LOVE your videos. I am an aspiring producer currently studying in a small school. In our recording technology class, you're channel is listed as one of the youtube channels we need to subscribe to. I have to say my teacher know's what he is talking about!
Hi +Joseph Kyle Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Wow that's fantastic to hear!!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Great to catch up with Kenny. I used to see him in the hallways of Indiana University. Wonderful insight to the mechanics of sound reproduction. I am definitely getting the picture that BAE is making the cutting edge electronics for today. Got to say I am glad to be a bassist and do not need nearly so many microphones!
HI Warren, Another great video! I've been listening to Kenny since way back in the John Mellencamp days. Such an awesome drummer. Love this tour of his studio and how he goes about recording. As a guitarist I've been recording for many years but have alway used Addictive Drummer, Stylus RMX and others but I'm about to attempt recording my first real drum kit so I was quickly jotting down notes from this video. Thanks again, David
Just stumbling upon your videos now. Each one is a goldmine of information for me, as I'm in the middle of revamping my studio in the UK this winter. Plus, even though the gear used here is generally very high end stuff, to me the principles apply to many more universal aspects of recording...thanks for making these videos! -Matt
Hi +Matt Gallagher Thanks very much for your kind words I really appreciate it! Best of luck with the revamping of the studio! I am so glad to be able to help! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Text book gear, drums, techniques and environment for a great drum kit sound. Awesome. The 26 inch bass drums are a beast and easy to get wrong but so good if you get it right. Mic inside the base drum offset to the side not looking at the beater, one the back head and the ribbon to round it out. Monster sound.
Thanks Warren ! Great video. Kenny is such a great musician. Plugins are good but will never replace real musicians with heart and experience. It's great to watch musicians & producers still trying to do their best for the love of music ! Cheers ! :) ----
Hi Inverted Poles thanks very much! Agreed you'll never replace real feel! Yes Kenny is amazing drummer and a great guy! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
The first drummer I really got into, back in the 80s when everyone was using massive OTT sounds he was old school when playing with John Cougar Mellencamp and had a real raw natural sound
This was a great way to get into the minds of some of the top cats. Zildjian A's are very consistent, and sound great. I think the Paistes have more character, fit the mix best, while cutting. Sounds of Paccaro, Bonham, Copeland......can't be beat
The Yamaha hs8's are seriously awesome speakers. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who may be looking for a set of monitors. My room is nowhere near as nice as Kenny's but the hs8's sound great anywhere.
Im pretty new to being a recording engineer. Who am I kidding, Im just fiddling with mics, an adat 8 channel preamp and an apollo twin with uad plugins. Still, it's one hell of an exciting journey, and Im having huge nerdgasms listening to these two talk gear, although I have none of it. :D Great video, Warren and Kenny! If you'll excuse me I'll go cut out some 350hz...
This video is very cool ! i here Kenny say bonham in this and other videos its so good to here that name from other drummers. especially an amazing drummer like Kenny Aronoff! Thanks warren enjoying everything your doing i learn something new every time.
John Mellencamp , Whenever We Wanted , 1991 album , has amazing sounding drums on it . Kenny is such an amazing drummer , he and David Grissom were brilliant on that recording .
I saw kenny playing with the big John fogerty in the basque country in Gazteiz, you are awesome man! Very good feeling! It was great to meet you live! Big big big drummer!
Thanks for this video. Great to see and hear how the true professionals do things. Kenny seems like a great dude, good to have a beer with and surely he would be close to one of the most recorded drummers out there ?
Thanks for that super informative video. Although most of audio equipment used is beyond my budget, there's always a simple basic rule to have a great drum track: Well balanced drummer playing on the very best cymbals, good drums in well sound treated room.
I am so glad I became a subscriber. I have so little experience in this side of drumming, it’s so nice to just absorb this information w/o pressure. Lol
Hi +Horizen3872 Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Yes Kenny is incredibly generous with his time and expertise! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Warren and Kenny you guys are awesome and an inspiration to all of us!!! Keep up the good work guys! Maybe one day I can pay for a session with you two - that would be EPIC!!!!
Produce Like A Pro Definitely Warren! I wish this world had more people like you and Kenny. You guys provide valuable and educational information to us all while being humble, sincere, and genuine while doing it!!!! Your videos are invaluable and you guys seem like such down to earth dudes - keep on rocking!!! Thank you again!!! PS: Working with you dudes on a song is on my bucket list!
Aw shucks thanks Mat Melton I really appreciate it! Kenny is one the greatest drummers ever and still works like crazy, playing each and every day, getting better and better! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
absolute incredible video you Warren and Mr Aronoff continue to inspire me to reach further, dig deeper and pull from my soul solid performances with the best gear i can afford and make it sound good bless you both for sharing so much knowledge rock on brothers!
Great Information here. I´m relatively new to recording and your channel is a very helpful source. How is the Yamaha Mixer behind the kit connected to playback? I see a lot of connections on it. Thank you.
Marvellous question! My guess is that Kenny is using it to monitor, a mix from Pro Tools would be going to the Mixer and he would be creating a headphone blend there!
such a cool idea to do this type of video. I love seeing drummer's studios because I'm a drummer looking to sound amazing...just like kenny said at the end here. Keep up the great work!
I was wondering what you thought would be the best method to add artificial ambiance to a small room drum recording and make it sound real , like the bigger studio's, what I do right now is try to keep the overheads from catching the room sound and add rev. , Kenny's studio set up sounds great!
Hi Tom MacDonald thanks for the comment. I think you're doing the right thing. When I only have 4 or 5 mics on the kit I will add Kick, Snare, Toms and then start to blend the overheads into the Reverb to get a great room sound. Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Great video, Warren. Kenny is a monster drummer. What an amazing talent! Only recently did I start following you and I have to say, mate, you have some of the best informational (and entertaining) videos about engineering out there. I've been recording and mixing for 15+ years and, quite honestly, don't get much from 95% of the other "Pros" on the web. However, since I started watching you I've been able to pull at least one precious nugget of info from every video. Please keep them coming! Best, Your newest fan, Dave Lopez.
Hi Dave Lopez wow!! Thanks very much for your kind words I really appreciate it! So glad to be able to help!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Interconnect wiring and electronics vibration control is important. Dynamat Fatmat wrapped components(don't block vent holes) really is a good tweak for electronics. OCC wire with cryoed copper jack with gold or silver plating. Basic ofc copper wire with nickel plated brass jacks is a huge weak link.
Dude you give us really amazing material that no one else is doing, you talk to really incredibly fascinating people and you do all of this for free, and in the end you say "please and thank you". You're a really cool man, Warren! Cheers and thank YOU!

I am so glad I became a subscriber. I have so little experience in this side of drumming, it’s so nice to just absorb this information w/o pressure. Lol
love Kenny... great video thanks for posting..

Man what a great video!
Aw shucks thanks Jj Jones I really appreciate it! Yes Kenny rules! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
I am REALLY digging that snare sound!
Super Cool Warren!
oh man...that joke at 5:42 about paying 10 cents was hilarious!!! literally bust out laughing!!! Such a fun and relaxed interview :-)
great watch....Kenny what a great guy
such a cool idea to do this type of video. I love seeing drummer's studios because I'm a drummer looking to sound amazing...just like kenny said at the end here. Keep up the great work!
Hi +Tony Martinez thanks! Yes Kenny is amazing! Have a marvellous day time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great video Warren! I'd love for you to make one of these videos focusing on drum room acoustic treatment. Cheers!
Wonder what Kenny thinks about Bill Ward one my fav. from ol days ?
Best,
Your newest fan, Dave Lopez.
Hi Dave Lopez wow!! Thanks very much for your kind words I really appreciate it! So glad to be able to help!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Great Video.
I've been to one of Kenny's drum clinics! Great drummer. Cool vid.
Hi TheOompahRoundabout thanks for the great comment! Yes Kenny Aronoff RULES!! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Awesome video guys...thank you, take care!
“Can He Earn Enough” Awesome!!! Pro!
Phenomenal to see one of my heroes' "cooking studios" Incredible player. If I think of Kenny, I think of mellencamp's "cherry bomb".
Thanks ever so much Rene!
Gotta love these videos....wow
Great video. You and Kenny are awesome..Maybe one day Kenny can show us how to tune drums.
Hi +Marcel K-O I agree that would be huge!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
The drums sound awesome and I was really surprised at how good the hall mic sounded.
