I always wanted to throw like Rich Gannon. True, every person throws their own way. But my favorite and I feel the most effective way to throw in my style offense (west coast) is a sort-of side armed thrower, like Gannon or maybe Philip Rivers.
You should do a vid on Gannon. I know his reign was short lived in 4 years, but in that little time he was a perfect example of what the right mechanics in the right system can do. I think even for young QBs today they get too caught up in the flashiness which is fine and all, but a pure QB can throw his way out of anything, even when you get older.
Quite often his weight transfer isn't efficient his throwing motion often seems to be all arm. His sidearm throwing motion is going to get a lot of batted balls he is taking 3 - 4 inches away from his height by doing that. That said his accuracy is very good and he probably only needs to improve his footwork a bit. He looks a lot like Phillip Rivers so there is a positive comparison. Penix can drop the deep ball in the bucket like few QB's can.
Exactly! Like Dan Marino! He's a left handed Marino. Just not as compact, because he has longer arms. And his accuracy needs to be honed. I watch releases of some QB's in the NFL and I think they are crazy. They point the ball backwards in their wind ups.
Because when you throw like that it helps you be able to use your arm like a whip. You generate your power from the legs up with rotational torque and flick your arm and wrist much like flicking the end of a whip for that “snap”. Throwing that way is also much more energy efficient and easier on the shoulder and arm. With the way Penix throws, I wonder how long he will be able to last. I can see him wearing out his arm faster. He could also get much more power if he tweaked his form a bit. The pros are like you said though, he’s got a super quick motion and it’s more compact. Would be useful for some situations, but he should really develop a more sustainable throw for when he doesn’t need that super quick, compact throw
The "secret" to his throwing motion is in the first couple of frames when he separates the ball from both hands. Hopefully he never lets someone like Tom House ruin him.
Yeah he definitely does not have a "traditional" throwing motion and at this point would probably only make things worse to try to change it too much. He really has a combination of Marino and Phillip Rivers throwing motion to me lol
My favorite throwing motion was Tomy Romo. TBH I dont think Penixs recievers are as open as alot of the other top schools. These recievers are Dynamic but if you look at LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia recievers usually havw about 5 yards of seperation.I think that has to do with how quick he gets rid of the ball. The quicker you get rid of it the less seperation youll likely get from your reciever. The more you hold it the more time theyll have to find more grass. Also they play alot of 4 and 5 wide which makes a little less space to work with.
Jaylin McMillan got behind the Defense so much this year. Polk was just a great underneath security blanket. Odunze didn't get as much separation, but he's ALWAYS open ala Julio Jones. He has Hopkins level of ball skills, with Julio's size. Not quite as speedy as Jones was though.
It will be interesting to see how Penix's game translates because he definitely had the top 3 receivers to throw to this season.. Some other schools like Ohio State may have some younger guys that develop but this season Washington had the best trio. Some credit does have to go to Penix though because he is very decisive with the football and does a good job putting the ball in a spot where the receivers have the best chance to make a play..
@@Performancelabofcalifornia I guess then the argument is did he make the recievers good or did they make him good. Mcmillan and Polk were guys who had a ton of succsess before playing with him. Penix was not a top qb without them although he did show alot of upside in Indiana with a win over Michigan and being competitive against Ohio state. It's probably more like they all made each other look good tbh.
Penix had the most impressive throw in all of the 2022 college season. Against Oregon, opposite sideline. Most ridiculous through of the year.

And really that is more about mastering the wrist flick than it is about anything else

i dont like his throuwing motion it will be a horrible issu for defensife ends that will be batting the ball down
Bro you really looking at this and determining how good of a QB Penix finna be. truth is you can watch all the film you want but you will never know.
Yeah there is no way to know for sure.. Just doing my best to evaluate with the film/info I have
Slow side arm release on all his short to mid passes. It looks and the weird and the ball comes out funky looking AF
It's Michael 🖊 X
Get him to the Falcons. We can work on fixing and fine tuning those motions.
Wish granted

Yeah that is one thing Michael Penix does well for sure is get the ball out of his hands quick with the his quick load
He throws one of the prettiest balls I've ever seen. Tight spirals and hits his wide receivers right on the money.
@@joaljan yeah and with his mechanics it shows there is more than one “correct” way to throw the football

You better stop. Marino threw the prettiest passes ever

@@banksta3 I think odunze is as fast as Julio but not as big. Weight wise Julio was like 230.
Romo who throws hella picks

“Peeenix” is crazy lmfao it’s “Pin ix “
Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, Dan Marino, Tom Brady, and Boomer Esiason, though he does look like a mature Steve Young.
michael Peenix?
So many people get his last name wrong.
This was tough to watch…
Why?
Def Vicks throwing motion
Reminds me of Cam Newton
Other than skin color how?
He throws nothing like Cam Newton. At least Cam started his passing motion up high instead of down around his waist like Penix does.
@@traydevonexactly, Cam is much longer 6’6”, his throwing motion is much different
