    Excellent stuff, good update lads. Now done 800 Miles since I got my 125 on the road in May and only almost died once 😆

      Hey Peter, 800 miles to 1 near death experience seems about right on a 125 :) Have you been on any decent adventures?

      @@MechitBetter Not really yet, only commuting really although I did get to chase an ambulance on it when my dad was taken to hospital. That was exciting!

      Thanks Mike! We're pretty excited about it. Hopefully we can overcome our usual tendency to waffle and improvise ha!

    This series has been a great inspiration for me. Cannot wait to get my own CG and start making RUclips videos with it.

      Thanks James. We’re excited about the article. Glad to see you out on the scooter again. Will you be scooter camping?

      Yes, I hope to soon, but time seems to be going fast and summer is busy with other family stuff. I'll be happy with an overnight for now, we'll see.

    Can I have information on how good heated grips worked and what gloves you used and how you fitted panniers on to ybr with the funky stickers on tank please struggling with cold hands on 2010 ybr

    • @MechitBetter
      @MechitBetter  Год назад

      Cold (or freezing) hands kills all the joy of riding. Heated grips make a massive difference and I will always recommend fitting decent ones like Oxford.
      Gloves don't want to be too thick or you lose some control and it seems harder for the heat from grips to get in. A reasonable pair of winter focused, motorbike specific, gloves that are "windproof" should serve you well.
      Panniers were fitted using an official givi rack from a later model YBR that I had to modify (cutting and re-welding rear mounts) to fit mine. I can't remember what years it was intended for but you might be ok with a 2010 ...if you can find a spare rack. Got mine 2nd hand off gumtree.
      Was such a good little bike, I still miss it now, but hopefully you're on your way to warmer hands and happier riding ✌️

    I have the exact same bike but how do I find parts for it I wanna make it into a cafe racer

    • @MechitBetter

      Wemoto or Fowlers for standard parts. I guess ebay for custom stuff. Good luck 👍

    Nice work! Congrats on the magazine. :) I was touring on a 125 possibly at the same time. Rode from Hampshire up to the Outer Hebrides and back with a buddy. Some picks of the bike prep and trip here: imgur.com/a/7SyMCAa Just like you, it was cold, wet, and windy. Typical Scottish summer. The ferry back from Barra to the mainland was almost cancelled and ended up leaving Castlebay at 04:00. That was a long day. Did about ~1500 miles in total for the trip.

      Great photos. It does indeed look like you had the same weather as us. We cut out trip a day short too for the same reasons. Everything wet through! The scenery and beaches up there look stunning. It’s on my list of places to go for sure! Did you have any bike issues on your trip? How was the Mutt?

    • @_zzpza
      @_zzpza 5 лет назад +1

      @@MechitBetter Sadly, yes - however it was just one issue that kept reoccurring. The bike was serviced en route (I won't say where) and within 50 miles the kick stand switch fell off (the bolt backed out). The service was the first service (the bike was brand new, and was supposed to include a spanner check of the major fasneners) and it resulted in the bike not always wanting to start (because it thought the kick stand was down). It had to be pushed off the ferry at Stornoway. I had some spare tools with me, but didn't expect bolts falling off. Luckily we found a garage in Stornoway that specialised in motorbikes and the owner very kindly cleaned the thread, found a suitable bolt, reattached the switch, and refused payment. After that, the Mutt worked perfectly.
      The weather was a real pain in the arse for the whole trip. The near constant rain on the way up and on the way down was pretty depressing, but the gusting side wind across the Scottish highlands was the most scary (and dangerous). Would love to do the Scottish highlands in nice weather, what little scenery I could see looked nice.
      The time on the islands was amazing though, well worth a visit. It never really got dark either, sunset was about 22:40 and sunrise was around 04:00, with it only getting as dark as twilight between the two.

      Oh man yeah, those crosswinds! We had them all week. We went up Tan Hill and I thought my bike was broken. Never experienced anything like it!
      Shame about the Mutt. I’ve heard of one or two minor reliability issues. Mostly sensor related, but they sure look cool. I assume your Honda behaved itself?

    • @_zzpza
      @_zzpza 5 лет назад

      @@MechitBetter They were pretty hair raising when you're riding along and the bike's pushed a meter over before you've had a change to correct. :( But it was only really an issue when we were in the highlands, there was wind in the Hebrides, but it was pretty light, if near constant.
      The annoying thing with the Mutt was that the sensor still worked perfectly, so if you rotated it by hand it would let you start the bike. The trick was knowing how far to rotate it and when to stop, as the sensor just turns and turns with no stops. My mate didn't think much of the garage that did the service, so I don't think they checked it at all, they could have saved us some trouble if they had caught the bolt backing out.
      My XR has the same engine as a CG125 (JC30E), so other than having to adjust the idle speed on the carb a few times (it was a lot warmer down south) there were no issues! ;)
