I loved this! I shared it with some John Denver fan pages on Facebook. I'm such a huge fan of his music and films, Looking fwd to your other videos on him, ~PEACE!
FYI: The song "Sweet Surrender" ALSO features similes in the chorus. Two of them, in fact. "Sweet, sweet surrender. Live, live without care. Like a fish in the water. Like a bird in the air."
Another great historical/thematic look at a JD album by Corinne Smith! Back Home Again was very relevant to me in high school: Our Pep Club did a JD medley at the annual talent show during my senior year; it included both Thank God I'm a Country Boy and Grandma's Feather Bed. Annie's Song became my wedding song several years later, when my future husband and i found we loved each other AND nature AND wanted to move forward together (plus he knew I couldn't marry him if he wasn't a JD fan :-)). I didn't know about the "retrospective" album featuring JD with the Chad Mitchell trio. You learn something new every day! Nowadays, our grandkids enjoy jumping around to Grandma's Feather Bed!
I love these videos. I do have the retrospective album, but mine is the lake cover. I didn't know about the face cover and, by the look of it (ack!), I'm glad I've got the lake. One of my all-time favorite JD songs is Sweet Surrender. Used to listen to that over and over again.
There is a park close to where I live with a long stretch beside a river, and a winding path through a meadow. The transition between the two areas is cool and green and shady. I memorized the song so I could take John Denver with me when I walk through that area. I avoid thinking about the fact that he is dead. Your series of videos is wonderful. Thank you for all your hard work, and for your memories.
Thanks for sharing, Emily. I think when you find special places like that, it's easy to come up with an appropriate John Denver song to represent it. When I take a walk or a hike, I often have his "Windsong" in my head.
There were 2 different album jackets for Back Home Again. The one you did not show has a message from John on the dresser and under the picture of Annie and him. My purpose in performing is to communicate the joy that I experience in living. It is the aliveness already within you that my music is intended to reach. Participating in est has created an amazing amount of space for joy and aliveness in my life. It pleases me to share est with you. Signed John Denver
Okay, one more thing: My husband found a photo he took in Glacier National Park that he thought looked exactly like that mysterious "Beginnings" album cover (JD+Mitchell Trio). The view is across Swiftcurrent Lake toward the mountains, on the shore of the lake, in front of Many Glacier Hotel. Except I can't seem to attach it here, so I'll email it to you, Corinne! 🙂

Thanks for your kind comments! And thanks for spreading the word. I promise, there will be more to come ...

Thanks for sharing, Jess! Yes, "Sweet Surrender" is a nice song that tends to stay in one's head, once you hear it. Which is not a bad thing.

Great, thanks for identifying the place, guys! I have yet to visit Glacier National Park, and so I had no way of recognizing it.
Saw the Denn😂McCloud episode. John was starting to break into acting and something he dreamed about.
I LOVE the McCloud episode. I've got the script memorized. 🙂
