His name was Maharaj Purushottam(Puru in short). Greeks couldn't properly pronounce Indian names, so they called him Porus. No such limitation for us Indians, so we should use proper names.

Ironically word 'India' is also their given name because First persian used to trade with us in ancient times when "sapt sindhu" empire was there but because persians used to replace 's' with 'h' they termed us as 'hept hindu' ,and as greek copied stuff from persia they did this too but shortened this 'ept indu' later to 'indus' which again later to 'India'

Alexander lost the battle and was killed in the battle. The one who wrote the history of Alexander was Rufus. He wrote it in 1A.D nearly 300 years after Alexander's death. So, the conclusion is when you are writing somebody's history that too after 300 years, how can that be accurate?
Definitely he died in the war and later modern historians tried to cover up his loss by saying he died of illness.

@sadashiv12345r There's no mention that Porus won the battle either. The closest mention you can find us the result of the war was draw. Besides Alexander and his army had been conquering all the way from Macedonia until Indus river so they were far more experienced as well ofcourse then again you have to consider the fatigue and exhaustion of the troops too due to which they didn't want to continue the conquest to Nanda Empire

With all the respect to King Porus if porus had won why did he get assassinated by the Greek general Eudemus, it was clear proof that Greeks were living in his kingdom moreover we can see that after this battle Alexander also won the Mallian campaign and finally if you study the phalanx you can see why he won he also defeated elephants in the Battle of Gaugamela

Alexander was injured ,had to retreat & return to his home but while going there his injury worsened & he died.

If it wasn't for weatern Historians which deemed Alexander as great because they have not other better options, no one would have called him great. Porus was just a little king in india his empire is not at all great but still he is a king and has a good army.
Porus empire was there because of the river as it good for vegetation that's why a empire build there.
Alexander killed his son and gave a decisive bloodbath to porus army in the war.
Porus get a hold because of elephants but in the end Alexander won because of big army.
Alexander army got destroyed badly in the war and porus army got wiped out.
Alexander do won the battle but lost the dream to conquer the world.
In the end porus won.
Answer - Battle won by the great Alexander, porus defended ancient India successfully.
The indian history will remember porus even after thousand of years because he save them from Greeks.
May be Indian historians thought Alexander was not great enough as said by Greek historians to be registered in our history so they ignored him.
