I just picked up a Recon 035 and I agree with everything you said. The action is awesome, and this is going to get way more pocket time than my Ultratech. Great video!!!
Just got this same GT Recon in carbon fiber with a combo serrated blade. Love it. The action is truly butter smooth. Slices like a dream. The serrated portion cuts through rope like crazy. Will likely be my EDC now over the ultratech or QD Scarab I've been carrying.
I hunted...and found a black stonewashed tanto blade and OD green aluminum scales....just the one that I wanted. I also own a Guardian Tactical Helix Nano tanto...which is just such an INCREDIBLE knife, TOO! ...Great knife company!
They use to make these in cpm-154 and they did a very short run of s35v. I have one in cpm-154 and it’s my favorite knife. Much better than the microtech’s i’ve handled in my opinion.
Thanks for a good and honest review. I am glad you and other reviewers prefer this over the Microtechs because it truly is the better choice and I'm glad you are not afraid to admit it.
I think the Recon 025 is a great size and functioning knife that I EDC as well but it does come with a concern and a annoyance. The two weaknesses I find in the 025 are related to its clip. I think the steel of the clip is too flexible and/or weak and doesn’t securely hold a pocket’s fabric edge when you also factor the non-textured handle. There’s just nothing reassuring in the holding of the knife clipped down in a pocket. And unlike its bigger 040 brother that I have too, the clip is only right side carry position. OTFs are perfect for weak side carry (gun for right side) and this otherwise awesome guy misses out on this use and also for the lefties of the world.
Bryan, you couldn't have done this video at a better time..lol I'm looking for my first OTF and I want a Hellhound blade style. Can you recommend one for me to look into? Not looking for a custom at this time. I definitely will be adding a 040 in 2021 too.
Question for you Brian, at the 9:40 mark of this video you can see the tip of the blade at the very front of the opening in the handle on the Guardian Tactical Recon 035. What I would like to know is if you run your finger across the front opening of the handle would if the tip of the blade actually touch your finger? Isn't having the tip of the blade so close to the front opening of the handle a bit dangerous and unsafe. Why would Guardian Tactical do that?
First of all... you can barely touch it, but I can’t cut myself if I try. Secondly... it’s the same as other OTF’s I’ve handled. Thirdly... why would your finger be there in daily use? It’s not a spot you’ll have your fingers near. Not being a jerk. Just explaining why no one mentions it in OTF reviews.
On Gaurdian Tactical, The Torx screws are the blade stop. On Microtech, the frame of the machining inside the knife acts as the blade stop... Try hammering this into a piece of wood and your blade is Kaputt. Hard pass... get that OTFs aren't hard use knives but they skimp on these knives and charge as much if not more than Microtech. Hardpass...
I picked up a Recon 040 and WOW it's a big boi. I should have picked up one of these with carbon fiber and the two tone blade.

Finally got my hands on one, building the hype by watching this until it arrives
I do that all the time LOL 😆
Lmfaooo exactly where I'm at 😂 it definitely is satisfying if you can't get your hands on it yet
Doing the same, have mine coming overnight shipping 😂

Here in California, the blade length on an automatic knife has to be less than 2 inches to be legally carried. Like the Microtech Exocet.
That’s cause California sucks
Głosujcie dalej na komunistów i zdziwienie pełne.
I guess i need one
It will be my first, and probably only OTF. 🇺🇲

Nice review...we need more “battles to the death” lol. Still can’t wait for the spartan harsey 3.25 vs the sebenza. Keep up the great content!

Good looking OTF.
This is one of my favorite and most carried OTFs. :)
Been waiting for this one

Hello
Slicey Dicey
Does your knife make a loose noise when it is shaking?
Bryan, you couldn't have done this video at a better time..lol

Hellhounds are VERY hard to find.
Whats with that forward half finger grove? Seems silly, just make a full groove at the front of the handle with a minimal guard?
I really want an OTF but I can’t find a dealer in my state. I wish I could get online but can’t because the shipping law
You still have that carbon fiber guardian? you looking to sell??
Do you not have issues shipping autos to NY?
I live in MN, which allows me to own autos but not carry them and most websites refuse to ship them here.
No. But only because I have a RUclips channel.
I get them shipped to ny from bladehq all the time

Sucks guardian tactical sucks
Troll, it doesn’t have as powerful of an action as microtech, however it’s eons ahead in terms of smoothness and action

How did you find that out? Why would anybody hammer a otf into a piece of wood?
