Ive got a question I still need help with! y is inversely proportional to x^2 . It is given that y = 7 for a particular value of x. Find the value of y when this value of x is increased by 250%.
@@TheGCSEMathsTutorNooooo. Wrong answer! We can't just take something out of the denominator and do multiplication with it at the end.I know it might looks like as if that implied multiplication between 0.5 and root t has has just gone vanished, but we must not forget that our numerator has effectively doubled. Please edit the comment! 😮
No, because then you would have an equation for the square root of y, not y! When we're simplifying a fraction (dividing top and bottom by 4, in this example), we're not changing the value of the RHS of the equation. If we take a square root of the RHS though, then we must also do the same to the LHS. I agree though, that it is very tempting :) Mathematicians love to spot that kind of pattern and it is certainly true that root y = 10/3x^2.
The surface area of a sphere is directly proportional to the square of its radius. A sphere of radius 10 cm must be increased to a radius of x cm if its surface area is to be doubled. Find x. Please solve this question for me. I shall be grateful

Find the value of y when this value of x is increased by 250%.

super helpful, thanks so much
can someone explain why the formula is y=k/x(power2) when i searched up the formula for inverse proportion it does not say anything about the power 2
If it is inversely proportional to the square of x then the formula will have to be amended to suit this 😁🙏🏼
