  • 📖 Follow along with the official Bible in a Year Reading Plan: tinyurl.com/yg...
    Fr. Mike highlights the reality of sin and our capacity to choose hell as we read about Jesus' teachings on temptations, divorce, and wealth. Jesus' teachings can be challenging, but following him is the path to true holiness. Today we read Mark 9-10 and Psalm 29.
    We hear every day from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. You can make a gift of financial support to help defray these costs and enable us to keep bringing evangelizing digital media to all those searching for God: tinyurl.com/ye... Thank you for your support.

    In the course of my life I faced obstacles such as discussed today, things so big, I could not see past them, they seemed a 1000 foot high wall I could not climb. All I could do is sit at the base of the wall and weep, but I just kept sitting there at the base of the immovable trusting God. God is bigger than that giant wall. He is more powerful than any complication. It may take time. It may take patience and it will mean laying yourself out in submission to Christ and God's plans for you, but he will show you his wonders he is the God who saves us. I know what it is to stand in front of the immovable thing and God has always, kept his promises to see me through to the other side; he will do the same for you. Hold on and hang in there. Christ is our rescue.

    Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, & all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts & transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear & understand God's voice in the Scriptures that we may revere & treasure both the Old & the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness & humility, & with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students & faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull & may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

    God’s mercy was upon me in the incredible opportunity for annulment. Annulment because of the lack of sacrament in my first marriage. The catharsis I experienced…the metanoia brought me to my knees and then raised me up again. And then the Lord provided to me the man who He had chosen from the beginning of time. I was affirmed in this because as I discussed this with my spiritual director, the priest who had walked me through this annulment - he even paid for it because as a single mom of three little ones I had nothing- I discovered that this man was my priests cousins. Only God.

    I was once watching one of those "soldiers coming home" videos on the internet and I saw this young boy at the mall and when he saw his dad he started arguing with himself and couldn't believe what he was seeing because his dad had told him that he was away and right then it dawned on me what Jesus means when he says unless you have the faith of a child you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven. That boy had never been tricked by his dad before and to watch the change take place in him was also sad but God used it to teach me a lesson on believing everything that Jesus has said and to believe it like a child believes their parents on everything that they say.

    Just a recommendation for the BIY companion that goes with our Bible daily readings. I didn’t have it for the first volume ( there are 3 Volumes in all), it makes a terrific difference in following Father Mike and getting the most out of the readings and reflection. Currently I’m also doing the CIY, This is the first year of this study, maybe Father and Ascension press will publish a companion book for that as well. Just a note, I do not work for Ascension Press, I’m just a very grateful participant. As Father would say! I can’t wait to study and be with all of you tomorrow📖

    • @catherinebracy4332
      @catherinebracy4332 2 года назад +2

      Hello, I hope I can clarify!
      Jesus needed to go through His Passion and Death because without His sacrifice, as Jesus was both God and man, mankind would never have been redeemed from sin. As the only man without sin, and the obedient Son of God, Jesus offered Himself freely to the Father to make up for all our sins. He also redeemed mankind, gave His disciples an example to follow for when they faced persecution and death, and demonstrated through His Resurrection that even death would have no final hold on them if the disciples followed Jesus.
      This teaching on death was demonstrated during the Transfiguration, when Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus. They were both holy men that had lived and died believing in God, and so were meant to be in Heaven.
      I hope this clarifies at least a little 🤷‍♀️

    • @bettyschroers3071
      @bettyschroers3071 Год назад

      Jesus said, “What you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven.” The Church thoroughly examines the couple, their early life, their wedding day, their married life, and determine if a valid sacrament took place. Each spouse is allowed four witnesses to answer questions, as well. This is an in-depth study, and an annulment is not guaranteed just because you seek one.

    Jesus showed the Transfiguration to give Peter, James, & John strength after Jesus’ death. They would eventually see that His passion & death was voluntary, that He had the power to prevent His pain & suffering, but He didn’t. After the resurrection & ascension they had to have contemplated what this meant & why.
    I’m praying for you, please pray for me.🙏❤️

    Unbelievable Prayer Father Mike, I had to do a triple take on this prayer Father Mike! It really bears repeating, " Father in heaven we give you praise and we bless you and you bless us and you give us, you keep giving us to us. And so we give you praise and we know that you are the one who's blessed. Lord God in the gospel you often ask, " What is it you wish for? What is it that you want?" And if I don't know what I want, if I don't know what I want, if I don't know what it is that I wish for, if I don't know what is the deep desire of my heart, then I don't know how to answer this question. And so Lord God, before I even can even ask what i wish for, I ask that you please give us all a spirit of clarity. A spirit of actually knowing what it is that our longs for knowing. What it is that we really truly desire, because our hearts are a cloud of misjudgment. Our hearts, hearts are clouded by a number of contradictory desires and so Lord God... But I don't know what my hearts wants half the time, and so I ask you that you please, before I can give you an answer of what it is that you want me to do for you, I need to know what it is. I need to receive a pure heart from you, a pure heart that see not just other people well, but also see what it is that is in the depth of my heart. God I want to approach you always with clarity. I want to always approach you with confidence and with courage, and so i ask that you please send into my heart and into the of all those who are praying with me now that spirit of clarity of confidence and courage. In Jesus name we pray, Amen WOW this took longer for me to type than I thought, I wish I took typing class in high school. Thank you, Father Mike, and thank you Father Joe Glab for introducing BIY to me. 🙏🙏🙏

    Round Two
    Please pray for Souls in Purgatory. Go ahead, just take about 30 seconds to help save a soul that maybe is your family member or friend! Go forth and help save! Here is the prayer:
    (According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory.)
    The Prayer of St. Gertrude
    Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.
    God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.
