Thank you for showing us all the interesting and beautiful things as you hike the Appalachian Trail. The views, markings on the rocks, bag stuck in a tree, the hill you're about to climb, the evening fire. I also enjoy descriptions/summary of what you see, and thoughts on it, for example... The different animal tracks you see in the snow, noting, in the wilderness, we are definitely not alone. So many hikers leave out such things. Basically, your videos are not focused solely on yourself like so many others. My health issues do not allow me to hike more than a couple miles, so I will adventure through you, and others. Sending prayers and positive vibes for the days ahead. Thank you!

    Nice vid!
Dont let the "thought police" get you down.
Say whats on your mind. If people get pissy that's on them.

Maybe look into picking up some Potable Aqua Water Purification Tablets during the colder months when the filter is acting up. Captain Jack has been using them, and he's sobo on his yo-yo somewhere in Southern VA.

Put some lime in your water, it naturally helps with gout.

Love your channel. Love your attitude. So sorry about the gout. I had my first run in with it about a year and a half ago. Man, that was a very long 6 months where I could barely walk, and I was really not very nice to people. I will say a few prayers that yours lets up and you are able to continue doing what you love. Stay Strong!

Like you said goping in, there are gonna be days you have to get off trail. So what if you have to do it more at the start, to get conditioned so to speak. You have the option of not taking as many days off later when you are in better hiking condition. Be safe and be patient with yourself. I think you can do this. Slow and steady for a while.

i think there is more cooperation than fight. Symbiosis over competition. The trees don't really compete - they share the space and need each other. The animals, the plants, the trees.

And over the course of evolutionary history, humans have survived best -- and thrived and evolved -- through cooperation, not killing each other. Read Darwin and find out what he really meant by "survival of the fittest."

Don’t know much about gout but my ankles would swell the first 200miles off and on and I was told to get compression socks. They helped me tremendously! I’d wear them at night and by morning the swelling was gone. Just sharing. Hope this helps.

Just stumbled onto your channel/hike and spent the last couple days catching up with your vids. Will be following along for the duration. Love your attitude, you're honest, open, and real. Enjoy what you have to say about life and stuff.
    Best of luck.

You probably already know this, but water freezes from the top first. So if you store your bottle upside down you will still be able to drink from it if it's partially frozen.

These are all real human feelings and emotions!! If anyone thinks you're going out picking daisies and it's going to be easy!! Here's the reality of it. Sam, you are doing great. Take it slowly and easy listen to your body. If you can elevate it when you stop it will take some pressure off. Much love. We're all sending you positive vibes!!

Boom, got it, SALT. IS YOUR LARGEST CULPRIT, salt increases Uric acid production!
I drank muscle milk powder mixed with coco pebbles/old fashioned oatmeal with coffee for breakfast, sardines/oil on crackers for snack, Ramon noodles for lunch when cold (I had 12” snow an stayed on trail ) then knot-pasta/tuna for dinner. Within 30 days GOUT ate up my rt toe to the point I could not take 1 step. Iran my diet through my mind for 10 years and blamed gout on the sardines, but now I am thinking it was to salt in Ramon noodles. Today is day 7 of current gout attack and I am 95% over it! Wish you well and now I recommend Ramon with olive oil and butter/herb mix but toss the pack it in the Ramon!.
Few people ever mention kellies knob but it kicked my butt! Big time! I remember it now 10 years later.

Trees compete across species, but they help weaker trees of the same species. Oaks will also favor their own offspring over other oaks. They share food through their roots. Wood Wide Web.

So sorry about the gout. Hope it eases up for you.
I don't have gout, but I do have feet issues, so I know a little of what you are going through. For the last five or six years I've worn crocs 100% of the time. They have really helped me. I hate that you can't get the gen 1 hiking croc anymore. But gen 2 is not terrible.

Sorry about your health issue. I know you love it but Coke is crap for your body. My brother in law was a quality control manager at a Coke plant and he never drank it. He would say it’s garbage. I am sorry your having to deal with this especially while your on trail. Hang in there.

I haven't drank soda for 30 years. My saying was it's sugar and water and cost a dollar. Dumb all the way around.

I was regularly having gout flareups until somebody told me to stop drinking any dark colored sodas. Once I cut that out of my diet, the flareups all but disappeared.
