    For my money, the most versatile “rock” guitar player ever. Jazz, classical, country, folk, and can absolutely tear your head off with a solo. A metal head friend of mine was telling me that he found Yes boring and couldn’t see what was so great about Steve. So one day I decided to play him Machine Messiah, the guitar break in Sound Chaser, and the solo from Awaken. Upon completely melting his face he finally understood, he’s a huge Yes fan now.

      Oh yes, that sound chaser guitar break is freakin' incredible. Those other parts as well, but that especially is just good.

      But nobody underrates Steve Howe, he is the best of the best, unparalleled, he is the greatest of the greats, but I still prefer someone like David Gilmour, or Brian May, or "gasp " Todd Rundgren, but the word "great" is entirerly subjective, on a special night it might be Howe, the next Gilmour, but Steve Howe will never be underrated.

      "Underrated"? How old are you? 14? The guy had devastated every Guitar Player and other magazines polls in the 70 and the 80s. He played besides Yes in Asia, GTR, as guest with Queen (Innuendo), Animal Logic and others. What are you talking about, man?

    • @andys2357
      @andys2357 8 месяцев назад

      Old enough to have seen them in the round in the 1970s. How about you jack off? See many shows down in Argentina i the 70s? In the guitar world he is vastly under rated. Post a poll today of top 20 he doesn’t make it. That’s all I’m saying. So thanks but I don’t need the history lesson. I was there.

      ..... Well. If you "was there" as quoted, you know perfectly what I' m talking about. In the 70s and early 80s Steve Howe was God. It is not a problem of underestimating. It's only that the music industry in UK was so stupid that they decided to make such a downgrade with that bvllsh1t called "punk", letting in the lurch such big artists of the prog rock, that even 2 decades after a mediocre called Oasis was crowned as "the band of the 90s". In the actual guitarists' polls (RollingStone cof cof) appears people like Kurt Cobain and some others scumbags. But that means in any way that Steve Howe was or is underrated.

    The best example of why your odds of walking into a bar and hearing a cover band playing ANYTHING by Yes are vitually zero. Absolutely stunning to watch him play this. Fifty years later and he not only can still PLAY every note, he still consciously understands every decision he made while composing it and can explain it. He literally plays guitar with all ten fingers. Awe inspring. And humbling.

    • @giantpurplebrain

      Don't mean to be picky ( no pun intended ) but I have seen several decent Yes cover bands in bars. There are thousands of good musicians that aren't famous.

    When I heard Clap for the first time at the age of fourteen, I got it in my head that I would one day play this piece myself... Several years have passed since then and I still can't... Maybe the problem is that I'm a drummer and not a guitarist. But I still don't want to give up! And then comes Ram's turn!

    Trevor is a great player ,but he’s one of a million shredders out there. There is only one Steve Howe.He is unique,one of a kind and the perfect fit for Yes.

    • @robinwatson4282
      @robinwatson4282 11 месяцев назад +1

      Rabin is not a typical 'shredder' - he's a technically-learned jazz-fusion player, has got theory down (through piano), can pen a tune, and sings - attributes that Howe doesn't have. Different beasts. Nothing 'typical' about Rabin.

    • @GreenmanWood
      @GreenmanWood 10 месяцев назад +2

      Trevor may be one in a million - maybe. But Steve Howe is the greatest guitarist ever, of all time, all planet, all universe.

      @giantpurplebrain 8 месяцев назад

      @@GreenmanWood They're BOTH extraordinary musicians. tbh to say anyone is the greatest of all time ever is not great analysis. There are classical guitarists that could play rings around both of them - Kazuhito Yamashita makes Howe look like a caveman. There's more than just technical ability - I've been listening to Yes for almost half a century.

    One of the things that Steve takes for granted is the size of his hands and his reach is nearly effortless for him. My hands aren't nearly as big as his and I have tremendous difficulty reaching some of those positions. Been trying to get this for over 40 years, now ! Oh well... I'll keep trying.

    • @SidAlienTV
      @SidAlienTV 8 месяцев назад +1

      It's not entirely in your hand's size, but in the efficiency with your fingers stretchings. I met Andy Summers some years ago and he is not a big guy, and he reaches that F9 chord in "every breath you take" or the opening chord in "spirits in the material world". The trick is to put your left hand angled as a violin player, and the guitar not so down like Slash for instance.
