I just started getting the painful prickling in my feet and a little bit my hands. Absolutely devastated at my carelessness with my body and ready to quit the drink forever. Thank you for sharing your story.
I have advanced PN from alcohol. I drank for many years heavily, daily - bourbon. It never effected my work or family life. My wife also drank daily, but nothing to the volume that I did. A few years ago, I went almost 4.5 years without a drop. I was attending AA. Then, a couple of years ago, I had a beer which led to one small glass of bourbon which lead to daily drinking. Not with the volume I used to drink and I wouldn't day drink at all. Thing is, when I would hit my couch in the evening and have my first drink of bourbon, I could literally feel it going straight to my feet. My feet would burn with occasional sharp pains until I had drank enough that I didn't notice the symptoms any more. I haven't sought treatment because I know the issues I have are from the alcohol. I am not diabetic, which is probably the leading cause of PH. Funny enough, I'm okay with the alcohol drug, but don't want to take any other meds for this pain. There is no cure. Alcohol destroys the long nerves in the body. You can Google it - alcoholic peripheral neuropathy. Its a thing. I haven't had a drink in 9 days now and am trying to not. All I have to do is wiggle my toes to be reminded why not to drink. Alcohol is truly poison. You drink heavily long enough, you will get PH or maybe your liver gives out first. Godspeed everyone.

It comes from damage from alcohol. I was drinking up to the day before I was rushed to the hospital because I couldn't walk or move and was completely numb from the chest down. I'm now in a wheelchair with agonizing pain 24/7 all over my body. Please don't be deterred to quit because this video is telling you its from withdrawls. Nick Woodruff It may well be fatigue. Neuropathy often feels like when eg your arm falls asleep. It feels both numb snd tingly at the same time. How much alcohol do you drink each day / week?
Hi Pamela, I would agree with you that the cause of her neuropathy was from continual heavy drinking. I have neurosis too and have been suffering for over a year. Walking and balancing are a daily challenge. Sobriety and physical therapy are helping but I am going to try a supplement that I have been reading about called: benfotiamine Please read about it and try it too. Just found out about alcoholic neuropathy, and it’s terrifying how it can happen to just about anyone who drinks enough regularly 😳
I’m 21 started drinking since I was 14 non stop. I’ve gotten better at not drinking daily but I will finish a bottle on my own or shared w someone . For like half a year I kept drinking everyday from wake up to sleep. Now I drink every other day or so but I drink to the extreme. I’ve noticed how sore my hand always gets after drinking. At first I thought it was because I’m a waitress but now I know it’s because of my alcohol consumption.
Yes, please stop, you are young enough to make a difference, I am sixty and have neuropathy due to many years of drinking too much, really unpleasant - do yourself a favour and stop! 💝
@speedyeats7769 yea all my symptoms got better. I actually had Alcoholic Hepatitis so I quit cold turkey. It's been about 7 months since I had my last drink and everything is getting back to normal. I had to go to the doc and do extensive tests though and they monitored me for the past 6 months. Last month though I got the all clear so moving forward I'm dedicated to a life of sobriety
awesome video I am 50 and I am slowing down however I have cause permanent damage in my feet that shows up in the form of anxiety when I am angry or nervous like you I wasn't an alcoholic as much as I was a alcohol abuser which is worse, a six pack of day easily and drinking more on the weekend with friends and biker Buddies I am now down to buying a 22 oz beer a day, and enjoying it after I've eating a meal, and pretty close to breaking that habit, but you recognize the signs early good luck on your journey
jarocla66 Thank you so much. I'm still sober and enjoying life. I suffered extreme anxiety for the best part of a year but I'm finally feeling better and more in control of my life. Good luck and I hope you recover.
Hello. Seeking help/advice here. I have similar symptoms. Burning in hands, feet and legs, cramps, backaches. One of my toes are actually numb but it’s getting better. I’ve decided to see a chiropractor today for relief and going to doctors care. This has been happening for about 2 weeks now. I thought it was because of high b12 levels but I’m not leaning to alcohol abuse. I use to consume alcohol a lot more a few years a go. Now I cut down to a weekend drinker, but I don’t have high blood sugar levels, not dietetic. How can this happen without any signs?? Shouldn’t my blood sugar levels be increased if I’m a “heavy drinker?”
I hope everyone who searched this up is doing ok. Alcohol is the devil. I was drinking after every week of work and heavy. My diet was terrible as well and I always felt a little slumped and lazy. The drinking finally caught up to me and I started getting these symptoms of extreme numbness in the legs and arms. Mind you I've been drinking my whole life after 21, had no issues then and I am now 31 feeling the consequences. One night it was so bad I actually thought about dying cuz I couldnt even get myself to the restroom. 6 hours later that night after the numbness went away I then read online that taking Vitamin B, B12 and alpha lipoic acid would help only as long as I quit the drinking. So, I did. Made the decision that day and Its already been 2 weeks now and I dont have the feeling of dead legs and arms that would last up to 6 hours that would keep me bed ridden. Made the decision to go keto for my diet because I noticed everytime I ate any carbs I would be slumped and I also started doing Cardio in the morning and Its been amazing for my health. I really hope this finds you and helps you. Please if you have any of these symptoms stop drinking, its not worth it.
I exercise 5+ days a week, generally eat very well for the most part but on the weekends I'll have drinks Friday night, Saturday evening, but sometimes when I wake up on Sunday if I'm too tired to go for a run or exercise I'll start drinking early. I don't have any pins, needles, or any pain at all but my legs always feel tired. I don't feel like I have any withdrawals only other then being severely tired on Mondays. I don't know if my tired legs is just from being tired/dehydrated or if it could be a start of peripheral neuropathy. I took a week off last week from working out so I had drinks all week so I got pretty sick of it. I'm not gonna have a drink this week and when Friday comes I'm gonna try to hold off and not drink and see how it goes. anyone think symptoms of peripheral neuropathy could be tired legs? my legs never feel fresh that's how it feels.
That's exactly what it is. It took me 6 months of heavy tired legs before it put me in a wheel chair for a year. Through a 2 month hospital stay and continued therapy, I'm walking now, albeit unbalanced. I've been suffering from peripheral neuropathy caused by alcohol abuse for 5 years now. I just stopped drinking 3 months ago. The pain has increased. Keeps me up at night and I can't stand more than 20 mins before I'm wiped out. Hopefully if you stop drinking now it won't be as bad for you and can be reversible. I'm encouraged about some of the supplements I learned today on this chat. Good luck and be well
I was alcoholic and was diagnosed with Neuropathy. I was hospitalized for two months for treatment. The pain has gone, but it has damaged my memory. 🙁 Anyone else has the same problem?
Similar experience. I was getting pins and needles in my hands and feet after drinking. Doctors told me I was fine and that dinning isn't the cause. They actually encourage it.
Amazing video and congratulations. I’m still very young (18) and at this age I feel it is impossible for me to stop drinking. I socialise through drinking. For months I’ve just thought the numbness and tingling in mostly my arms was typical of a hangover, until today. However it’s getting worse so I did some research. I’m honestly not sure what to do. I feel if I went to a doctor they would need me to stop drinking or significantly reduce my alcohol intake which I don’t see as a possible option right now. People may suggest I detox or something but I fear that would destroy my very enjoyable social life. Honestly so unsure what’s best for me right now.
I understand that pressure. A lot of my friends drink as well. One thing to try is start getting into social activities that are less drinking focused. Stop worrying about social status as that doesn't last or lead anywhere anyway. Find a friend (old or new) who'll do these new activities with you.
My body didn't give me the choice. I was totally numb in my hands and feet for almost 5 months when my legs and feet swelled up so bad i freaked out and went to the hospital. I had alcoholic hepatitis...my liver was failing. I'm only 30. Started drinking at 21. Now my feet aren't only numb and burning...they HURT. Hurt like hell. I've been sober since the day i went to the hospital. That was 6 months ago. I take 2 different medications to help the pain. I honestly have no idea no what i would do without the meds...i was f××cking miserable without them. I hate taking pills. I wish i would have quit drinking when the numbness started
@@losergeekalesha wow I read this and just thought of myself I have the same situation and I'm only 29,I cant live without my meds not only for the pain but also mentally. There was a point where I couldn't even walk without being in serious pain. This is honestly the worst disease to have to deal with as a young person but thank gosh for the meds dont know where I would be without them
Once you health has gone you won’t be going out having fun and real friends will understand, stop now before you ruin your health, walk a new path and have a wonderful life 🦋
I quit 3 years ago. It can be done and you will be a happier person for it. Just remember its not normal to have to consume a liquid to feel happy. All you are doing is numbing the emotions you need to analyze to grow as a person.
Good stuff! Going thru it right now..literally. My feet and left knee r killing me! Been thru this b4 BUT now I know the name of it and when I make it out..i believe I'm done.
You can can heal some to most of the nerve damage from alcohol neuropathy through taking a good vitamin B complex and alpha lipoic acid supplement. Workout 3-4 times a week to ensure your nerves are getting enough blood flow. Must avoid alcohol. After doing this for 6 months, I am now almost completely healed. I was in really bad shape when I stopped drinking.
This is really sad and people will be mad but I’m only 15years of age and have this drinking at my age is a way to socialize and make friends so it’s really hard to stop but if I don’t I won’t be able to play any sports or do any activities for my life ahead of me
Hello Sally, thanks much for the amazing vid, been suffering from peripheral neuropathy for months now, have not quit alcohol for good yet, still drinking a few days a week but very little (just a few beers per week), I too think that the reason behind the tingling sensations in my feet and hands are definitely related to alcohol but I am not a heavy drinker which makes me a little worried that the underlying cause might be something other than alcohol, a question though, how long did it take you to fully recover from the pins and needles ? what do you think about my situation ?
Don't mess around with this. I had tingling and numbness for years before a complete fallout. It can likely be corrected at this point with B1 supplementation, however if you let it go it could get worse and lead to brain damage. I am still struggling to get my life back....at least I don't have the depression any longer that accompanies the vitamin deficiency. I am going to start a new supplement benefotiamine in hopes this will allow me to regain function.
Ann Knight hey. I typically drink on weekends. I have a few drink last weekend. (Saturday and Sunday) and woke up with one numb toe Monday. I thought it was because of my b12 intake. It’s a 955 with is higher than standard. Standard is no more than 911. Idk if im experiencing pain from alcohol or high b levels.
I have the pins and needles and some of the burning feet. My feet can be useless at times because they feel so tender. I quit alcohol seven months ago. My burning feet and other symptoms started just after five and a half months I guess. The worst of the burning has passed but I get some flare ups. It seems that massaging my feet and legs helps as does stretching and taking vitamins. I think SUGAR can really cause problems. I quit taking the statin that I was given for cholesterol. I don't think many of these drugs help as much as they lead to other problems. I've been trying to lose some weight but honestly the information out there now is absolutely confusing. My AIC blood test came out at I think 5.4 but I think pre diabetes starts at 5.7 or so. My mother was a diabetic. I've stopped with the sugar. I haven't eaten meat in two weeks and I stopped dairy as well. I don't know what to eat anymore. My cousin has lost over 50 lbs on a KETOGENIC diet. I've also seen very high praise for going vegan but I just can't eat most vegetables. I've been downing veggie drinks made by V8. It's not as good as eating salads and stuff but I hate veggies. I also want to try juicing to see how all of this might help me. I got another blood test because my bilirubin level was higher than it is supposed to be. I go back to the doctor around the 20th. I wonder if I have cirrhosis of the liver or fatty liver disease. Honestly, my diet SUCKS since I don't really COOK but more like warm up chicken tenederloins and stuff in a toaster oven. And when you see how chicken is farmed these days I wonder why anyone would want to eat chicken knowing the chemicals and so one we could be putting in our bodies. I'm bewildered by all of the information. I don't know where I am at. I'm not a diabetic YET. I don't know how healthy my liver is. I DRANK a lot of vodka for four to five years with some breaks. I REALLY never knew a THING about it leading to neuropathy. It's amazing the KNOWLEDGE that I never obtain until it is probably too late. I think we just think it happens to other people. At least I am 56 and not real young. I'm glad I didn't have any neuropathy when I was younger. I'm hoping a much increased VEGETABLE diet might help since I never get what veggies have to offer. I feel like my metabolism is now messed up. I don't know if I can lose weight now. I have more questions than answers.
I read that drinkers should take vitamin B supplements before and after drinking. I used to do that but along the way I lost that focus. Now I am dealing with this disease and it is super painful. Sometimes I lay in the bed and a sudden pain out of nowhere feels like Iam being stabbed in my feet. It’s terrible. It’s all bc I have become a chronic drinker drowning in my pain. I never thought I would live this way but I am going to take a break and probably quit. If you are not ready to quit please try to eat healthy and take your b vitamins.
TheYoungGun I typically drink on the weekends too. I had my last drink on Sunday and woke up Monday with a numb toe. Did it go away for you if you stopped drinking ?
@Cis Lunar God created our body to regenerate itself. Never lose hope of regeneration of nerves. We just need to get out of our own way to allow the nerves to heal. Also, a fatty liver is usually the cause too. Blood flow to the feet is reduced by the sludge in the gallbladder and the liver. A liver and gallbladder flush may help you. There is a book by Andreas Moritz titled the, "The Amazing Liver Gallbladder Flush". You can find it on Amazon . com If you have a pot belly, chances are you have liver and gallbladder issues which an ultrasound would show easily. Intermittent fasting and switching at least one meal a day for dark grapes will help tremendously. Also, adding lemon or lime to your water will help. Milk thistle capsules sold by Jarrow, 150 mg. Up to 3 capsules a day. But it has to be, Standardized Silymarin Extract 30:1. I hope this helps you, or anyone else that reads this☺
Hello, I am still sober and have been for nearly a year. I was drinking a few beers or wines on week nights and then bingeing on weekends with about 10 or more drinks.
Kevin Molina Hi Kevin. I'm so sorry to hear this. I was very fortunate that mine went away, however, I also quit drinking. One thing that helped me, and helped my sister when she had breast cancer and was suffering peripheral neuropathy was vitamin B12. I am not a doctor, nor do I have any knowledge of vitamins but they just worked for me. I wish you the absolute best of luck and hope you heal. Stay positive. I know how much it hurts.
I got this in my legs a few months ago. I haven't touched a single drop of alcohol since, but I've noticed my front thighs are just slightly numb. It's almost unnoticeable, but still very annoying. How long did it take to completely go? Was taking vitamin B12 the key to getting rid of that sensation?
I can’t sleep. My arms have been falling asleep every night for the past few weeks. Feet and legs occasionally. Lip twitch for the whole day today. No drinking last 4 days. Lip thing is new. But the arms started weeks ago? I gather I’m doomed
Same boat, I've always drink right? but since day 1 of corona, I started drinking like 2-3 lt of beer every night. got the numb toes, sharp elbow pain and hand numbness. So after getting that, also never happened to me before (I'm 34) quit, Im having 300mg of gabapentin, Ibuprofen, inositol capsules and B complex injections to counter this crap. Hope it goes away, def cutting the drinking after this and not binge like a stupid asshole. Good luck to you all. By dat 2 symptomps have lessened but still very concerned.
To me my toes is like sand between them ,been like this for 12months now ,no pain though I suffer with cramps in my legs only in the summer , haven’t been to the docs yet
Same with me I’m only 22 and different parts of my body felt cold and numb with pins and needles and muscle twitching but I’ve been drinking since I was 12 but cutting off alcohol since then almost 85 percent of my side effects are gone now thank god
Anyone have muscle spasms after a binge a few days after ? My leg just goes berserk at times. Went to the ER , got checked out heart is good , chest is good, they told me it's withdrawal and stop drinking so much lol .
Hello Im suffering really bad from some type of neuropathy I have been heavy drinking ever since my diagnoses of an auto immune disorder in 2008 and I loved drinking to keep my mind happy.. But I think I have damaged my body because this neuropathy is very painful and never goes away and has been getting worse since nov 2019 I stopped drinking 2 weeks ago and tbat has helped Im hoping it was from the alcohol and can be reversed the pain is 24/7 I am almost unable to walk.. But if I drink its extremely bad.. I have seen the Drs 3 times about it and they dont know what to say.
Kind of sympathise with doctors, what can they do if you are making the choice to drink yourself to death ;-) just kidding, I was at that point too....how is it going now?
Alcohol suppresses blood glucose. So, when you quit, blood glucose shoots up. Diabetes is what happens to some people who quit alcohol. Happened to me; I'm Diabetic Type 1 now. You should have consulted a doctor either before or after quitting.
Withdrawals, the body just knows it isn't getting it's relaxant and starts cramping up saying gimme gimme gimme..2 fish oil tabs twice a day, 3 litres of water a day with a good magnesium supplement, then light to medium weights stretch and strengthen ( should all be done before tapering or giving up any relaxing substance, and anti depressants that mess up the works)...Anyhow look up about people drinking 1 gallon of water a day on youtube ( 3.8 litres), think you might benefit Sally even now...I'm a born healer and Sharman, and know all the angles ..Love and peace to you stay strong...
I started drinking because I got influenced by the movies I watched.. like flight starring Denzel Washington... In reality no one can fly a plane after so much abuse... Now I'm struggling to quit drinking as I turned into an alcoholic... I broke my hand twice after riding my bike under the influence... In India it's easy to escape law... Now I'm suffering long term effects... God help me as I'm stuck in between quitting and the impulse to drink... 🤯🤔😭
I'm dealing with this right now...it takes a strong person to openly talk about it. My drinking got out of control. Anxiety and panic attacks are no joke.
How is it going Randi? Are you staying off the booze?

I'm so glad I found this. I'm going through it right now just figured out this is happening to me today. I'm in so much pain right now😢
Thanks for having the guts to tell us your story

May this kindness find its way back to you.
This is great. Have you seen Dr. KJ Foster on Fostering Resilience? She also provides great and inspiring info.
Thank you. This is encouraging
Quit full stop, don't muck around with this thing. Once you quit after a month or so, your life will be amazing.
Yes, please stop, you are young enough to make a difference, I am sixty and have neuropathy due to many years of drinking too much, really unpleasant - do yourself a favour and stop! 💝
I am going through this right now!!! Thank you for the vid!
did you quit drinking?
@speedyeats7769 yea I stopped drinking
@@Thatdudefresh congrats that's huge. Did your NP go away or get better?
Same is happening to me right now, im 15 days sober.
Congratulations Jose. I am now 6 months sober and can't even start with all of the positives!!!! Stay strong x
Mr Esco hi mr esco can I ask how is your neuropathy now?
Anyone else has the same problem?
Try the herbs Bacopa and Astragalus
Yes

This is honestly the worst disease to have to deal with as a young person but thank gosh for the meds dont know where I would be without them
Once you health has gone you won’t be going out having fun and real friends will understand, stop now before you ruin your health, walk a new path and have a wonderful life 🦋
Thanks sister it totally resonated with me 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you
I am going through This now, I am a diabetic, and I drink every night. I am also very depressed cause I know my future is short!
Don't say that, you will be fine.
Quit now, you will feel better. Trust me!
I quit 3 years ago. It can be done and you will be a happier person for it. Just remember its not normal to have to consume a liquid to feel happy. All you are doing is numbing the emotions you need to analyze to grow as a person.
Thanks you've helped take the fucking leap! Knowing full well I gotta go through hell to find freedom!
Your great. Thanks for your video Miss
Good stuff! Going thru it right now..literally. My feet and left knee r killing me! Been thru this b4 BUT now I know the name of it and when I make it out..i believe I'm done.
Are you vegan/vegetarian??? This is actually a very important factor.
Exactly! My ex's mom was a vegan for 20 years (and a health nut no alcohol) and she git bad neuropathy. No B12 among others!
How are you doing today ?
That's awesome to hear.how much bad shape were you in?
How are you now?
How long did your pins and needles last?
@@lakeshiacarr7077 How is it now?
@@nathanwood5977 89% better
@@lakeshiacarr7077 That is great. I found that I had to quit booze 100% but didn't have to supplement etc. Best of luck.
Thanks 4 sharing the good info! 😊
I typically only drink on weekends but I drank the past 4 days and I woke up this morning with a numb spot on my thigh. Will it go away?
TheYoungGun I typically drink on the weekends too. I had my last drink on Sunday and woke up Monday with a numb toe. Did it go away for you if you stopped drinking ?
@@lakeshiacarr7077 I know this weird but same thing and I've had it for months. Did it ever go away for you?
I have those symptoms, I do now I stopped drinking 2 weeks ago, Did you say that the tingling was a after you quit drinking???
@Cis Lunar God created our body to regenerate itself. Never lose hope of regeneration of nerves. We just need to get out of our own way to allow the nerves to heal. Also, a fatty liver is usually the cause too. Blood flow to the feet is reduced by the sludge in the gallbladder and the liver.
A liver and gallbladder flush may help you. There is a book by Andreas Moritz titled the, "The Amazing Liver Gallbladder Flush". You can find it on Amazon . com
If you have a pot belly, chances are you have liver and gallbladder issues which an ultrasound would show easily.
I hope this helps you, or anyone else that reads this☺
Are you still sober? Also how much did you drink every day?
Hello, I am still sober and have been for nearly a year. I was drinking a few beers or wines on week nights and then bingeing on weekends with about 10 or more drinks.
Sally Harris impressive!
Did it go away ? I just found out I had this today, just like you I didn’t know you get this disease:(
Kevin Molina Hi Kevin.
How long did it take you to recover?
good video
I can’t sleep. My arms have been falling asleep every night for the past few weeks. Feet and legs occasionally. Lip twitch for the whole day today. No drinking last 4 days. Lip thing is new. But the arms started weeks ago? I gather I’m doomed
same
How are you now?
THank you for posting this
I have not been able to find out why I have PN, all the test have been negative. If I I could find the cause I could fix it, feel I've got no future
How do you know it wasn’t permanent if you didn’t go to a doctor ? What if it was the permanent one
Same with me I’m only 22 and different parts of my body felt cold and numb with pins and needles and muscle twitching but I’ve been drinking since I was 12 but cutting off alcohol since then almost 85 percent of my side effects are gone now thank god
How long does it take for the symptoms to go away?
Anyone have muscle spasms after a binge a few days after ? My leg just goes berserk at times. Went to the ER , got checked out heart is good , chest is good, they told me it's withdrawal and stop drinking so much lol .
I am working in
Wow! You are very lovely! So there!!
Saddo !!!!!
How much did you drink a day?
I healed with R alpha lipoic acid and Benfotiamine B1, takes around two weeks to kick in, don’t take lipoic acid if you have sliver fillings- mercury
How long till all sensations go away?
few months
I did same with Diabetes. It's so terrible.
Alcohol suppresses blood glucose. So, when you quit, blood glucose shoots up. Diabetes is what happens to some people who quit alcohol. Happened to me; I'm Diabetic Type 1 now. You should have consulted a doctor either before or after quitting.
You'll find out how bad it is in the cold
That's the only time mine flares up
Withdrawals, the body just knows it isn't getting it's relaxant and starts cramping up saying gimme gimme gimme..2 fish oil tabs twice a day, 3 litres of water a day with a good magnesium supplement, then light to medium weights stretch and strengthen ( should all be done before tapering or giving up any relaxing substance, and anti depressants that mess up the works)...Anyhow look up about people drinking 1 gallon of water a day on youtube ( 3.8 litres), think you might benefit Sally even now...I'm a born healer and Sharman, and know all the angles ..Love and peace to you stay strong...
All the best brother, I developed foot drop coz of neuropathy, it sucks.
Ok you do not get withdrawals from
Just “drinking on the weekends” I have a feeling you were an alcoholic and that’s why this happened to you.
Yeah this isn't normal for a weekend social drinker
So basically you had panic attacks brought on by withdrawal from alcohol.
Fricken love you
Drinking socially? Or drinking alcoholicly? There's a difference.
i think your video was very moving
Thank you Frank !
