Many people associate this song with some new world and unknown horizons, but for me this song is something more. I first heard it in EU 4 around 2016 when I played the game for the first time. It was almost 8 years ago and it was this game and this song, which sank into my soul like no other, that came all this way with me. In those days, absolutely everything was different: the world, people, me. Every time I hear this song in a game or just like that, I start to cry, because I remember that carefree and happy time when I was only 10-11 years old and the only problem was unfinished homework. I am eternally grateful to the Paradox studio for creating a game that has become a part of me, which I will play for many more decades, no matter how many new parts come out during this time. And of course my deepest bow to the composer who created this masterpiece.
Portuguese sea - Fernando Pessoa Oh salinated sea, how much of your salt Are the tears of Portugal! When we cross over you, how many mothers cry, How many children pray in vain! How many fiancées wait to marry Why are you ours, oh sea! Is it worth it? Everything is worth the effort If the soul isn't small. Who wants to pass beyond Bojador Must first pass beyond the suffering. God gave to the sea danger and the abyss, But in it lies what the sky mirrored.
As I tell my Spainish wife....Spain being the first finding the new world, was unable to capitalize it's true wealth...wanting gold and silver, when the real wealth was in coffee, tobacco and sugar and the golden trade triangle forcing China to trade which came later. There's no handbook in what to do when finding a new world. I'll always give Spain credit for the most significant event in human history.
Imagine being on the sea for two months. Two hellish months spent on the open sea, being dragged up and about, being almost destroyed several times by the cruel waves of the ocean. You know it is all over. You seriously think about just giving up and throwing yourself into the sea. And then your comrade screams at the top of his lungs: "LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!" You leap to your feet and through the mists of the horizon you see a land of endless jungle, covering everything your eyes could see. Tears are brought to your face as you stare into the new world.
really hits you right in the heart, makes me feel like I am in a different world, one of my fantasy is to go back in time and sail through the mist and then see the new world,
This song just makes me imagine a vast North America where only Natives live. Imagine being the first men to see North America completely untouched and just in it's natural beauty.
+Rick Darko EU4 soundtracks are pinpoint-accurate when trying to match their intended purpose, i.e The Voyage being the theme of a game about moving from the Dark Ages to the Modern Age.
This misconception that medieval people believed that the earth was flat has been debunked several times now. In the 3rd century AD it ended being the dominant teaching and was replaced by the idea of the globe.
Actual flat earthers today are dumber than your average ancient Greeks or Medieval peasants, since the Earth being a sphere came from the later portions of the antiquity.
So i tried searching for it for you but i couldn't find it. After hours of trying i decided to try old links again and actually read what it said and i came to the conclusion that that image wasn't a painting at all but just a drawing made for a map company's advertisement. Since it is a very old advertisement out of 1922 that is why you can't easily find it and there is no pdf for it. The highest resolution you can get from the net is around 500x350. If you still want the image, the site i got this info from sells old advertisements so you can get it here: adclassix.com/a3/22randmcnallymaps1.htm
hmmm a variation maybe? it would be funny if a variation of this theme is being played when you discover extraterrestial life (just as this music starts when you discover the new world in EU4)
Sad fact: Any Italian nation didn't colonize the new world. There was an attempt from the Granduchy of Tuscany to colonize modern day French Guyana, but it didn't colonize it for the enormous expenses.
Yeah eventually, without italians, there no colonisation of the new world. A lot of navigator were italians and a lot of settlers too. The problem with italians is that they weren't able to have a state like the french did. In France we often say that Italy is France without a state, I think it makes sense
