In Korean traditional music, there is lots of drumming and dancing in it. It just comes down to that. It was/is ok to clap in those Korean performances as it is seen as incouraging, and people are just used to that.

Clapping can be fun and doesn't really hurt anyone, since everyone knows what the music is supposed to be.
