You practically asked for more pedantry. After all technically correct is the best kind of correct, so here goes.
Technically Scandinavia refers to the Scandinavian peninsula which comprises Norway, Sweden, and part of Finland. However, to English speakers seems to be a bit confused by geography and often use Scandinavia to refer to the Norway, Sweden, Denmark triad. So if you want to be less wrong or more correct, you could refer to the Nordic countries. Those being Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden (in alphabetical order, if you reorder them you could make the acronym FINDS).
A, in my opinion, as a Swede (and a Scandinavian), a more fun way to refer to us Nords is just calling anything vaguely culturally or geographically connected to the Nordic or Scandic "Scandiwegia".
So technically Denmark isn't really Scandinavia unless you happen to be an English speaker and refer to the cultural region rather than the geographical.
It's a bit of a mess honestly and I doubt even most Scandinavians really know what's what.
Sometimes things get a bit tricky when you're feeling a bit pedantic because you can sometimes be right and wrong simultaneously.
I think I need a nap now. ;-)
All the best to Tim and everyone in the comments!
Thank you for the correction Hattmannen! This is EXACTLY the kind of pedantry that the comments section was made for. I am now better educated than I was 20 seconds ago.
I think it makes sense to locate Jutland (Jylland) as being non scandinavian (where Tim is located), it is mainland Europe. The peninsula is also not entirely danish, but stretches into nortwestern Germany. However, the main remaining main parts of Denmark, the islands of Funen (Fyn) and Zealand can very well be geographically belonging to Scandinavia. Allthough Denmark is a small country, the distinction between East- and Westdenmark goes very far back, and is besides being a geographically distinction also noted for a cultural distinction.
Sweden bad
@@TheTimTraveller can you please do a series on Andorra they have no trains
When are you going to visit Cartersville Georgia see are Indian Mounds and first Coca-Cola sign
Aarhaus, in the middle of the street.
There are 8 places in the world called Tim. 7 to go.
The ones you haven't visited yet are Tim in Russia, another Tim in Russia, Tim in Uzbekistan, Tim in Chad, Tim in Nigeria, Tim in Sierra Leone and Tim in Bolivia.
Happy New Year.
Edit: to be fair, the only Tims outside Denmark that might actually have more than 5 inhabitants and a street sign are Tim northeast of Kursk, Russia and Tim in Uzbekistan.
Can't forget Tim...buktu in Mali.
Sounds like both an African and Siberian rail tour are on the cards
The two in russia are probably off the list for the foreseeable future
He needs a playlist of him visiting every other Tim in the world…
And since I work with one, that’s going to be a LONG playlist 😂
@@thomasnisbet3035 Hah. I bet you were inspired by Tim's joke in the video. 😆😄
Cheers to all those living vicariously through The Tim Traveller!
Yep that’s me
And to you!
Me tooooooo
Hear hear ❤
Thanks for coming to my country, Tim :D. We lived in Ulfborg for a few years when I was little (the next stop on the line), so Tim is one of those towns we semi-regularly passed through on the way home. Tim (the town) has an agricultural equipment manufacturer called Tim, named after the town. The company was sold to another machining company some time ago, but the brand still exists and Tim trailers, beet harvesters, and a few other machines are still being made. If you go around the Danish country side you're very likely to see them (albeit not so much in winter): they're bright red and it says TIM on the side in big white letters.
I would have gotten off the train in Ulfborg instead. Sounds like a friendly town.
@@ulf6drega yeah, but you're not called Tim, probably.
Ulfborg may be very nice, but personally, I would stop at Hee. I mean, I do visit Clowne fairly regularly.
Pedantry Corner: I'm actually not a pedant and watch your channel specifically for the wonderful nerdisms that you do. You are entertaining and and a brilliant writer. Keep it up as always.
Noun. nerdism (countable and uncountable, plural nerdisms) (informal) The practices or behaviors of nerds; nerdiness.
I'm not a pedant. See, a pedant is defined as "a person who makes an excessive or inappropriate display of learning" whereas _I_ only make a display of learning when it's appropriate to the situation.
a nerdy pedant is a thing now
The Whistle had me floored already... "This is still a Family Channel...". Thank YOU Tim! For all the good Tim(e) we had with your Videos!
good tim(es) or family tim(es) 😜
A common brakup line back in the day was that the person needed to "find themselves", well, you've done it!
When parts of the internet are being their usual horrible selves, it's good to return to little oases of delight like this to make you feel better about just about everything. Gratz on the milestone
I’m not one for travel channels on YT, I generally prefer videos about technology, mechanical knowledge and maker’s community. Tim, yours is the only channel of this sort I’m subscribed to, because you deliver the unusual side of different places, the quirky and often forgotten out of sight places that are worth visiting. And I like your sense of humour, it cheers me up, especially during those short, grey and depressing days in UK (which as you know is most of the year)! I too like to visit places that are off the beaten track and hopefully this year I’ll get a chance to do more travelling and show my son some interesting places!
Ditto timmo
Same here. F1, News and Tim 😊
OMG Tim finally visited *my* country! Congrats on the 300k, I'm really looking forward to seeing which of the highest point you will be visiting. Also, fun fact: Besides passing through Tim (hehe), this railway line also goes through Tarm, which means intestine in Danish, and also Lem, which means.. Errr.. Member.. As in the male member.. Anyway, looking forward to the next video!
I'd imagine Darmstadt, Germany gets a lot of laughs from the Germans, since "Darm" also means "intestine". Ditto for the Spanish town of Badajoz (sounds like "Badehosen", or "swimming trunks").
Sikkert til Himmelbjerget ved Silkeborg 😂
@andyjay729 actually, no. You're right about the meaning of Darmstadt, but me living nearby or any other person never thought it that way. It has a nice Art Nouveau Quarter BTW which we once visited. Maybe a destination for Tim.
Cracking jokes about city names is sometimes cringy, like when Chris de Burgh was playing in nearby Weinheim (home of wine) and wouldn't stop talking about red wine heim and white wine heim and few laughed. Maybe because we're German 😜
There's one other place however where I can't forget about the meaning, which is Mückenloch, which means Hole of Mosquitoes. There aren't many of them, though.
Aarhus, in the middle of the street...
Beat me to it!
I know it was just for a gag, but I honestly love seeing these tiny, less traveled to villages/locations. I feel like that gives you more accurate picture of what a region/country looks like than if someone just sees the obvious tourist locations in that same area. Great work as always, you're the best travel channel around.
Today I Learned: Tim is the King of the Pendants. And I, for one, Welcome our glorious, train-traveling overlord with open arms. (And two fists full of corrections.)
Being a pedant myself, I can't miss the opportunity to mention that a typo snuck in and made it look like you are talking about necklace jewelry (pendant vs. pedant).
@@TrondBrgeKrokli As a fellow Pendant myself, I'll leave the typo stand and upvote your comment. :D
@@jackielinde7568 Yeah, that is funny too. Thanks.
OH MAN having the piano version of the Animaniac's countries of the world song in the background at 3:30 was PERFECT. Please never change, Tim.
Everyone asks: "Who is Tim?" Sadly no one asks: "How is Tim?"
But now we know the answer to "Where is Tim?" 😂
@@FlypperFlop And also, What is Tim?
The first Tim is the best they say... But the last too I answer.
How r U TIM?.... Pls.do also let me know who is TIM.
But why is Tim?
4:15 Holstebro really deserves more than a brief mention. Back in the 1980s the town pioneered the model that has become the standard most Scandinavian small towns aspire to with a focus on art, culture, pedestrian streets and just general human friendliness and I understand they are still working on it.
I read that as pedantry street at first.
And is it actually pronounced Hollstebroo, as I suspect?
@@Nynke_K Well, I suppose that's as close as it gets in English.
@@-_James_- Oh, definitely pedantry streets too! I haven't been there for ages so I'm not sure if it's still the case but they used to have early morning maintenance patrols who cleaned up the town and repaired any damage before the population at large got out of bed. This may seem a bit excessive and expensive but it actually saved them a lot of money since people are far less prone to littering and vandlism and such in an environment that is sqeeky clean and shiny.
Yes, we expected you to travel all the way to this place just for this gag, Tim.
100%
Congrats on the milestone!
Did Tim have a dot matrix, shelter, ticket machine or bike rack?
Congratulations on the milestone and magnificent videos.
And was there a rubbish binbag blowing in the breeze?
Don't forget the bin bag, waving in the breeze. I think there was ice ~8:44.
Yes to everything except the Dot matrix I think. I know it had an infostand with a screen showing departures inside the shelter when it was operated by Arriva, but the line is not operated by them anymore.
And how many footsteps long was the platform? And what were the ticket tallies for the last year that wasn't a pandemic? And is there an allotment nearby?
@@GreenJimll ticket tallies, or rather passenger numbers as we call them in Denmark, are generally not publicized, so stuff like that is very hard to come by. Train service to the small towns in Denmark is maintained because the towns otherwise would die, but there's generally not enough passengers on the lines that they alone can pay for the service, so it's not super important how many actually use the train.
As for facilities:
- Dot matrix: no, they're not used in Denmark. We do have LCD screens (and extremely rarely you'll still find CRT on remote stations), but there does not appear to be one on Tim. They do however have posted time tables.
- enclosed shelter with a door
- ticket machine, yes, as well as a machine for charging Rejsekort (travel card)
- bike rack, yes, there's a decent size bike shelter
- bin bag blowing in the wind? No, we have solid trash bins on Danish stations, and there is one of those (believe bins are mandatory due to the environmental regulations).
other things of note is that the full length of the platform is no longer in use. Only little over half is still in use while the rest is left overgrown and not maintained. It's left that way just in case they ever decide to run full length trains again, and because it's cheaper to leave the remnants of the platform than ripping it out.
- there's an old signal post that has not been in use for many years
- Tim also once had three tracks, with the third track primarily for (un)loading freight trains (as is the norm for nearly all the old Danish stations). The old freight platform for track 3 is still there, albeit abandoned and left to nature
Well done again Tim! Looking forward to seeing where 2023 takes you! 🎉❤
Such a lovely surprise to see you in Tim’s video! I’m a huge fan of both your channels.
@@miesasanuma3963 Thanks!
Loved both the "how to pull a steam whistle" joke and the "real Tim" joke. 😂 And also the background piano music, as always! Congrats on the subscriber milestone.
Wow, being featured in one of your videos - even just as an innocent bystander - is _by far_ the best beginning of a new year I've had in a long time! Now let me _slightly_ alter my statement from the video: *Congratulations and to the next 300,000 subscribers!*
Pedants Unite against "Pedant's Unite"! Go Tim! Congratulations and Happy New Year@
When you get to 300,000 subscribers they give you your own train station?! AMAZING! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 No one is more deserving than you, Tim. Here's to 300,000 more! Congratulations and happy 2023
That’s ridiculous! Of course not. They just _named_ the train station after him. 😅
Maybe Tim was named after that train station and he hasn't explained why. He seemed rather nostalgic about the location ...
Imagine living in Tim and being taken on all those journeys!
Congratulations on 300K! I'm honored/embarrassed to kickoff the questions with that steam whistle quip 😅 Happy to see you continuing to share your travels Tim 👍
Thank you! It was a question that needed asking. And I like to think that together we have helped a lot of future whistleblowers.
@@TheTimTraveller Of course. Being a whistleblower can be historical.
5:30 - I will not take the bait.
That HAD to be on purpose, right?!
I think the next video on the "The highest point of..." series is the highest point in Denmark
I just want to say that I wholly concur with your extremely erudite reasoning for calling it the best town/station name ever. There's a song about never having been to me isn't there? We watch you for these intimate moments. Looking forward to whatever you have to throw at us in the new year. Thank you!
Hahahahaha ! Yes, that's a cheesy song by Charlene !
@@alloallie As composed by Ron Miller and Kenneth Hirsch and released in 1977. It went gold (in Australia) when it was re-released in 1982 -- so it says on Wikipedia anyway
Hej Tim! Aarhus is my hometown and I was really proud and happy to see a bit of our beautiful and iconic railwaystation on your channel 😃 Congratulations
Oh wow, thanks for this rather amazing Q&A. Even though I am from western Germany, I already visited this part of denmark with my parents almost every summer (except pandemic times), always renting a house on the north sea coast close to Ringkøbing. As we were driving with the car around the general area to explore different places (like Holstebro for example) we also passed through Tim multiple times and even had a burger at the petrol station grill which was visible in some shots 😂And this summer I finally got to take the train from home to Ringkøbing while my parents took the car so I also stopped in Tim station on the return journey. Even though I always remembered this unusual town's name, I would have never imagined you to actually go there and make a video, but now that you've been there its amazing. Thank you for making lots of entertaining video content over the years and introducing all those interesting places to the world through your channel! I'm really looking forward to your future content and especially the upcoming video(s) about Denmark, as it has always been a special place for me.
I love places with names like this, see also Keith.
Pedants corner: 850 isn't a small village, it's a medium-sized village. (btw it was funny to see that Hee is the next station, and, looking at Google Maps I see that there's even a small village called No not far away.)
Big thumbs up and keep up the good work 👍👍
And being called Tim myself, I can naturally only approve this station. It's truly the greatest on earth and it's been on my bucket list for quite a while now... You beat me to it 😉
Fantastic achievement Tim, happy new year!
Many congratulations on reaching 300k! 👏
On a recent work trip to Austin, Texas, I came across Sabine Street. Now, Sabine being my first name I got (and still am!) so ridiculously exited at having a street with my name (imagine if it'd been a town or village) that naturally I took lots of photos and told everyone about it. It's these little things that may seem silly but are special on a personal level that keep travel exiting and interesting.
Here's to many more fabulous videos on your channel, always a great watch.
The Sabine River forms part of the Texas-Louisiana state border, and Texas also has a Sabine County.
Well done Tim. I might seem to be a year late but I'm back with my tradition of watching all of your videos due a year in the last 10 days of the year 🎉
When are you coming to France? We need more videos about it.
Congratulations on achieving this milestone on your journey to One Million Followers! Toot toot.
I was just talking to my friend about the highest point in Denmark, and thought that the story of the various highest points in Denmark would be interesting. The historic "Sky mountain" at a lofty 130something meters, then the mountain that is technically the highest, but doesn't count as it is only the highest due to having a Bronze Age burial mound on the top.

The most Tim thing ever - on a train in the snow I’m Scandinavia travelling from Paris, wearing a Irish Aran sweater saying ‘yes’ in a RP Queen’s English accent. Perfect my chap- spiffing job on the 300,000 subscribers, I’ve been a fan from the start, keep it up boyo!
Congrats, Tim!
Now, imagine the village of Tim becoming a tourist destination because of this video.
Hilarious. A brilliant channel by a brilliant person. Congratulations on reaching 300k.
Thank you!
I love that the 'Pedant's Unite!' message has a superfluous apostrophe in it....
5:44 - great to see David Bennett is also a fan! I hope that you will both make collaboration videos, and perhaps also share each other's piano playing on your own videos, too!
I would love to see that too. Perhaps David could go on a musical excursion with Tim...?
Well done as always. Your humor is wonderful. Huge congrats
A deserved achievement. Keep travelling, Tim. We’ll come with you 😀
Tim, your videos honestly bring me so much joy. I'm an Aussie who spent a few years living in both the UK and Denmark, and I am a huge train nerd. During covid, we had some of the hardest border closures and we were not allowed to leave the beloved homeland. Your videos allowed me to live vicariously and see parts of Europe I haven't yet explored. I'll always treasure your channel for providing me with that privilege.
Love this!! My mum lives in Tim, I grew up in Ringkøbing and my dad worked in Holstebro!! So I was both delighted and anxious about you visiting Tim :D But then I saw the drone-footage, which is something I've never seen before.. I actually think it might just be the first ever drone footage, taken by a tourist in Tim.. To be honest, you're probably the first ever tourist to visit Tim!! Really enjoyed it :)
Seeing the world without leaving my couch (and probably learning more than if I visited myself). Excellent job, Tim (population 857). Looking forward to more stuff from you with, it has to be said, some slight envy of your lifestyle.
OK now I'm wanting a proper walk through of the city of Tim!! 🤠👍
That was a pleasant surprise to see my question pop up on your video! 😅 Very much looking forward to your Norway videos! Xx
Congratulations on 300,000 subscribers, looking forward to more of you videos in 2023
Love the channel, keep it up!
Wow this really was a journey through space and Tim! Thanks alot for your amazing work! I'm looking forward to the things to come! Also Happy New Year!
Your videos are always a joy! Thank you!
Cheers, Tim, always looking forward to your videos, hope you're having fun
Tim is great! (The person and the place).
Thank you Tim for cheering up a lot of people. Not just 300,000! Keep up the great work, and all the best for 2023.
your channel and videos have been a real comfort for me this year, thank you so much for the brilliant content
CONGRATULATIONS!... Keep the awesome videos coming!!
I will not comment about 5:30… 😂
Congratulations on 300,000 subscribers - absolutely love this channel - and your excellent piano playing of great tunes is fantastic too!
Is proper grammar pedantry though? I'll leave that to the experts
Congrats Tim! Love your videos--get super excited each time I see a new one has uploaded. Thank you for your travels and sense of humor! :)
Long live Tim Traveller, and a happy new year to you.
I would challenge your assertion that Tim is the greatest place in the world - the tiny village of Paul in Cornwall exceeds it in greatness (though it doesn’t have a railway station, alas).
Seriously, thanks for all the videos (which helped me through the recent unpleasantness) and long may they continue!
Also, perhaps for your 400000 Q&A, you could go to the village of Pity Me near Durham - and so shoehorn a version of “I’ve Never Been To Me” by Charlene into the video soundtrack!
It's hard to imagine that when I first subscribed it was between the 666 Subscriber Special and the 1000 Subscriber Special! It's been a fun 5 years and this is definitely my favorite RUclips channel and that's not just because I was one of the pedants called out appropriately in the Borderline Insanity video :D.
I always look forward to your Q&As.
Your sense of humour brightens up our days.
300k subs - well deserved Tim - always informative always entertaining
Gotta love a pedant
Congratulations and Thank You a whole bunch, Tim. Both for this entertaining episode and also for the inevitable (but slightly unexpected) joke about "What more can we learn about Tim?" 😆😂😄😆😂😄
Happy New Year, Tim!
Congratulations! Tim travelling to Tim...I love it!
"where do you go from here?" I knew exactly what you were going to say yet I still laughed. Keep up the great work.
but... how do we get to Tim? And is Tim wheelchair accessible!?!?
- Through the town of "Bur", which is along the line from Holstebro. "Bur" meaning "cage" in Danish, i believe that it answers your next question.. :D
Jokes aside, i can assure you, that the whole town is accessible in wheelchair. No stairs whatsoever.
Greetings from the town of Tim :D.
Congratulations! Happy New Year!
I love your videos and especially your understated humor. I sit down on the sofa and click "play" on the new Q and A video - and what do I see? - my local railway station - fantastic. Congratulations on 300,000 subscribers
What will you do when you get your golden button at 1 million subscribers
Always happy to see another video of you pop up Tim. Congrats :)

Excellente année 2023, Tim. Avec plein de destinations surprenantes.
Obsessed with your channel and narrative.👏👏👏👏❤❤❤
Congratulations on 300,000 subscribers! What an achievement.
What I personally love about your channel is that you choose to travel by train, bus, on foot or by bicycle, and then try to combine multiple videos in one trip. + regularly paying attention to accessibility.
It's much truer than some self-proclaimed sustainable lifestyle bloggers, but without the in-your-face marketing gimmick and with both feet on the ground.
To be honest, given the ecological emergency, I hope that as you did with the corona pandemic, you can prove that you don't need to fly or travel above and beyond to see truly fascinating places.
You are welcome! Thanks for letting us tag along on your travels.
Thank you Tim!
Congratulations on the 300k subscribers and also a happy New Year mate.
Good luck on future travels and hopefully you’re 2023 year is better than 2022!
Love your videos, Tim, keep up the good work, can't wait for the next one!
