  • In this week’s AbsoluteDogs TV Episode, we discuss:
Do you have a dog that disappears in the distance? Would you like a reliable recall on your dog?
How do you teach a recall?
If you can relate to any of the above, we have games (and solutions) just for you. How can you grow value in you so that your dog never wants to leave your side? Recall, aka coming when called, is a foundation skill that is important to work on with your dog. No matter your dog’s breed, training history or behaviour history (i.e. houdini’s, wandering dogs or dogs that race off, selectively oblivious to your calls), there is hope! Discover Toy Switch, Restrained Recalls and why proximity is such a key concept to focus on with your dog in today’s epic AbsoluteDogsTV episode featuring Nifty, a Border Collie that loves her freedom and is learning that fun happens closer to home.

I'm so glad I had this recommended. Just yesterday I had a session with a behaviorist and I am very frustrated with his approach because it's more focused on the "free dog" whilst completely leaving behind all of these very important components of structure that would definitely come in handy in case of an emergency.
My dog is the kind who runs off to the ends of the earth and although he looks back to check on whether we are following or not, he tends to wander massive distances ahead where I cannot usually see if there are dangers further. I think I have not yet mastered the art of keeping him engaged and wanting to be close because it's undeniably more interesting to go off in the fields or find out some far-off scent several streets down than it is to stick by and go our pace.
Definitely wish I had a large space like your warehouse where I could practice these distraction-free and in an unfamiliar environment, but for now I think the backyard will have to do.

Hey there! We're so glad to hear this video was helpful! We have a super program that is all about becoming a better deal to your dog than anything the environment can offer. Its the Sexier than a Squirrel program. Growing Disengagement, Focus, and Proximity are the secret sauce to having a dog that loves to be with you, and chooses to be with you in that awesome little aura of fun you have around you.
Practicing in your yard is perfect, really master it there, and then you can use a long line to bridge the gap between the back yard and higher distraction areas like a park.🙌🐾😊

Why have I not thought of this before, my rescue collie also wants to be ahead of me, but I have noticed that she does check in with me from afar. I have managed to get her interested in MIDDLE and that's going well. Thanks guys

I am trying to change my recall command word, would I stay the new word while playing this game?
