I haven't learned all the high notes yet, but I love these tips and I'm sure I'll be coming back to this video again! I would love to hear more about using vibrato to improve the tone of difficult notes.
Girl with a Flute I am glad it is so useful! My latest video on tone actually touches on the issue of vibrato in the high register as well ☺️ but definitely a good topic worth doing!
I always thought the E was the hardest ever... It's the note I work on the most and everyone was looking at me weirdly. This E just sound... Don't know... Weird. I feel the rest on the 2nd octave notes have such a nice sound then... You have this E... Eurk... It just takes me so much practice to make it sound reasonably acceptable... Thank you I feel less lonely !!!!
I came back to the flute after putting it down for years - I'd forgotten about the mid-range E. I thought it was the flute. I thought it was me. It just kept cracking to B. Thank you, The Flute Practice!
If you happen to have the time, would you mind doing a video on summer practicing tips? I’m currently principal flutist at my high school and I really would like to continue improving rather than staying stagnant. I never know what to practice over the summer either.
Could you please tell me what to do and what to be prepared for the flute? By the way this is Riya and I am 13 years old. By the way Ih been geting your emails. I am a beginer player with the flute. thanks! I also, love your videos.
Still learning to adjust my aperture for the higher notes, but I'm slowly working in the second octave, and I'm now confident that I will add the third octave to my repertoire.
Great tips - especially those alternate fingerings! Just a thought: as an advancing flutist, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the extreme high register (Bb6 and above)!
I find FA#, third register very difficult, more so than MI (3rd). When there is an MI (E) mechanism on the flute, it makes the FA# more difficult, so I experience.
Omg yessssss I Struggle with the low C I don’t know 🤷♂️ why it’s so hard for me. I’ve been playing the flute for 1 year and I’m getting the hang of it. Can you make a video about how to play the low C. Thanks😊
The first thing to just double and triple check is that the bottom keys are sealing properly! Then check out the video I did on low notes and be patient as you allow your embouchure to figure this crazy note out!
Thank you for this video that addresses the problem notes on the flute. It is helpful to know that certain notes are difficult for everyone. I recently played a gig and got rid of any tunes that spent a lot of time on the mid-range E! If it involved more than a quarter note I went on to fine something else to play instead! Also that low C has been a problem for me so thanks for the exercise to help with that note. If I could just get those low notes that would be a dream come true for me! There is such resonance down low that it is a shame not to be able to make the most of that note when the opportunity arrises.
I just started today, Got B, A, G, E, F and D down but going from D to E or F is just Arrrrrgh with my damn pinkie doing whatever it wants! All my notes are nice and low so far, those high notes...yikes! I'm loving your videos. 😊
Great question. It is a real problem. My best advice is to play around with the air direction (think a bit more down into the flute for the Eb and a bit more forward with the lips for the D) and also the shape of the mouth. The more open and "hoh" your mouth is, the lower the pitch will be.
Helpful thx. Do you have suggestions to play more easily the measure in Rhapsody in Blue where you have to play high E F#E then G#AG#F#F (I struggle with playing the later phrase quickly). Score by Ferde Geode. On first page section 6. The fingering is hard to deal with quickly.

T Series this is a REALLY good idea. Will get on it☺️

Wait a second, teach! I so do love love those notes in the low register on the flute B and C, especially. Target practice on these helps me, I feel.
Thank you! These tips really help, especially since most of the Marching Band music we play have REALLY high notes that I've feared for ages lol.

Composer here. Thanks for the education; I don't want to write anything too tricky for the intermediate player(s) I am currently writing for.

Dinar Owens me too! Whenever I blow a low c it sounds fuzzy
Teresa Tran right!!!!!!
Me too, I can barely make a sound down there!

The Flute Practice.... thanks 😆😊👍
I thought all those notes were out to get me!!! Very nice to know they are certified trouble makers.

the exact opposite for me i am good at the lower notes okay at the mid then when i go up to a high e i lose my sound and it starts cracking

Thanks a lot for those videos, by far the best I've seen on youtube about flute technique !
Thanks for all your Videos, you explain very well. I watch you from Colombia. ☀️
What is the piece you started to play at 8:41? Is it a a tango etude ?
Yes! Piazzolla tango etude no. 3 :D

Is high D usually flat and high Eb usually sharp? How do we play in-tune when transitioning between these two notes?
Great question. It is a real problem. My best advice is to play around with the air direction (think a bit more down into the flute for the Eb and a bit more forward with the lips for the D) and also the shape of the mouth. The more open and "hoh" your mouth is, the lower the pitch will be.
With the pinkie on the back three low notes, aren't you supposed to slide the fingers in between not lift the pinkie in between?
You’re playing low D, so you lift it. And it’s really just an exercise to help the pickie learn to move, not actual music.
My high f sharp (above measure lines) just doesn’t come out

When the phrase is too fast for complex positions, you can always finesse these situations with trill positions or harmonics.
@@alexg.5850 thx. I will try harmonics.
I’m struggling on Eb E and F second register
Tricky notes! Are you struggling with the tone or the fingers?
I have sooo enjoyed your channel! Where are you from?
What's the best fingering for the F#-E-F# in slow passages like the opening solo in the Peer Gynt Suite (morgenstimmung)?
The third octave I have forgotten most of those notes.
Awesome
Low C is simply third finger on the G string.
Yeah b and c are really hard for me to not crack
You’ll get there! It is very tricky but with practice and making some small changes becomes much easier!
The only notes I can make a sound on so far is F and C
I play as a beginner at least I think marry had a little lamb with a high b the notes go like this D C Bb C DDD CCC DDD D C Bb C CC D C Bb high bb
My c# sounds like a dirty narrowing sewar pipe.
its F its F
gosh! you are beautiful! :D
