I've been waiting for the day where someone creates a fully open-world combat sim based on WW2 on the western front, normandy, belgium, etc. When I say open world, I mean something similar to the Arma series where all the assets are available to use, and people can hop in a tank, a spitfire, they can be part of an artillery regiment, or they can be a standard infantryman. They can play whatever they want in theory. For the last 20 years, no one has done a proper war game like that. It's hard to truly explain the concept in my head but I'm sure a lot of people have thought of the same concept before. Arma 2/3, and Planetside 2 are the closest things available to the concept in my head, but even those games are still too "small" for what I'm thinking of. A full scale war simulation based on WW2. Where I can join in as a paratrooper with 50 players trying to retake Carentan or Brecourt against 100 enemy players, and meanwhile 1000 other guys are fighting at the beachs and it's all connected and happening simultaneously, not on different servers or instances. It would take massive server power to run something like this but when the day comes where the technology is available and a development studio pulls something like this off, it'll be incredible. This has been a dream "game" of mine for a long time, being the massive WW2 history buff that I am. Do I think it'll ever happen? Doubtful. But one can still hope.
WWIIOL is a great game. I was one of the starters and it has come a LONG way... it's just what you describe. Supply lines, strategies, FOPs... I haven't played in years, and the engine is seriously outdated, but it's without a doubt one of the best WWIIOL open world games. If it had a bigger population and a new engine, it would be a truly work of art.
B-17 guns now work. The only way I don't get shot down by those massive firescreens is to fly the Dora very fast through the formation then weave like crazy on the way out.
b-17 is the great plane, it provide understanding a survivor error though incredible reliability of that plane and help to make less casualtees in future for all combat gears.
That is pretty much my rig as well. How does it handle the performance? Did you notice any stutters or lags? Judging by those bombers popping up like that, you have decreased the drawing distance a bit?
They still have not fixed the bug where AI controlled aircraft can not fire side/door guns by the looks of it. Look at the Huey for example, the AI in your aircraft can use the side/door guns but, If I remember correctly, a fully AI controlled aircraft will not fire side/door guns they were disabled for performance reasons. It maybe just a limitation of the DCS AI system who knows.
I do understand that it is a WIP still. But the issue is they still have not fixed the issue with the Huey yet, so it gets you wondering are the AI going to be able to engage targets from flank positions on AI controlled aircraft. I do hope this is fixed and they remember that a B-17 .50 cal load out is B-17 Chin Turret 365 Rounds x 2 Top Turret 400 Rounds per Gun Radio Compartment 250 Rounds Ball Turret 500 Round x 2 Left Waist Gunner 600 Rounds Right Waist Gunner 600 Rounds Tail Gunner 566 Rounds x 2
5 years later... When the FOV (dialed in closer) and Head Tracker curves are set to "near real" world DCS becomes a different game.. Lol.. No wonder VR and UltraWide screen adoption will continue to increase.
Would be more fun if they shot back at you, and didn't pop in and out of existence. I am aware that it's WIP. However, that's been the ED excuse since time immemorial. They should sort out that before they release the Map, or rather the asset pack. First impressions count, and a lot of people can't wait to take the fight online. They will be sorely dissapointed if they can't at least get the rudiments of that.

What with horizon indicator?
great video!!, many thanks, are you going to upload it at higher quality??
Did the B17 wings come off that easily after just a short burst?
John Koral Yes, the B-17 is heavily WIP. Lots of adjustments will be coming regarding the damagemodel. It will be a lot tougher to bring them down
Nirvi, thanks, thought that was probably the case. Looking forward to it.

Why do the planes disappear?
Sergio Ariel Recofsky It's a LOD bug, WIP
Oh, what screen capture program you use? Tried so many, but all foggy overlay look, its sharp but strange waze over it :(
I'm using nvidia Shadowplay for screen recording and streaming to RUclips.
This is a D9, not a Ta 152 right?
The B17's dont shot?
@@spinnenbein1 yes its a D9
And why do not they open fire?
Sergio Ariel Recofsky Bombers are still WIP, they can't fire yet
Bekose he is teenager))

Bombers popping up is beacause of a LOD Bug, nothing to do with draw distance. FPS were ok, didn't notice any big stutters.
Ah, i see. Looks amazing. I haven't got it yet. And good shooting BTW!
nice😀
I am afraid that by the time DCS is no longer a "work in progress" I will be to old to pick up the TM WH stick or throttle.

The B-17 is still WIP, no guns implemented yet.

Looking forward to seeing those ball turret's make mince meat of those 109s :)
I guess not.. 'cause we'll fly the Dora :)
amazingme2010 Make mince meat of the FW then lol ;)

I wonder how many fps we'll get when those bombers start to shoot back..
They shoot back now :) Have bombing raid on normandy harbour, shot alot of my crafts down that B17's hehe
