Hi Andrew, I'd highly recommend the canmore hybrid pipe bags - the cut of their neck should help with the issue of left wrist impingement which it sounds like you're having! Either an extended small or medium should suit. Plus, the bags are far more breathable than the hybrid bannatyne line - I couldn't play more than 20 mins without a waterlogged WMC bag (full MCS), however I can go for an hour plus without any issues with the canmore. Also, using a bit of bore oil in the grommets when removing/adding stocks will help immensely with the bag-changing process! No potential risk of ripping the bag.
Great stuff, Andrew ! I have really been enjoying my Dojo U membership, the resources are fantastic. Dojo U is already making this journey more enjoyable. I am a bit of a beginner, although Donald Lindsey claims I am getting into the Intermediate range, I still have a long way to go. I was playing a Gannaway Medium bag, and my Pipe Major and more experienced band mates kept commenting that I was not keeping the bag tucked up under my arm well enough. The Gannaway hit the end of its life, and it was time to replace it. I chose a Bannatyne Hybrid, in part because they have more sizing options than other makes seem to, and I wanted a change in size to try to address the "tucking" problem. I ordered their Extended Small, on the idea that a smaller circumference would help. I tied in a few days ago, and it is like a whole new world of comfort. My wife [who started life as a concert musician, and has perfect pitch] came outside where I was playing to tell me that I sounded 100 % better. You make the point about the importance of working to achieve comfort in this instrument, and boy, I just experienced that in spades !
Bannatyne bags are nice overall. Regrets, I had to switch back from a new WMC to a standard large...I found that the wmc forward moved stocks sort of made my arms feel a bit like I was a T-Rex. Funny how a little change can make notable difference...for me anyway. Keep the blogs coming...
Bags are one of my biggest frustration with bagpipes. I have gone through so many Bannatyne bags where the glue just gave out. So many moisture problems with anything synthetic. Hide bags feel better, but once cow hide starts leaking a bit there's no seasoning that will fix the issue in my experience, only the smallest of leaks will benefit. The nicest bag in terms of feel I have had was hands down the medium Gannaway bag. It lasted two years before it started leaking. I have a medium sheepskin bag coming my way now, should arrive next week. I keep experimenting, I keep getting frustrated. It's even harder than finding a good reed imo.
I have a hard time keeping my bag full of air. I have no leaks, but maybe my drones could use some adjustment work. I had a medium bag then switched to a smaller size one in order to maintain better pressure.
Hi there Andrew, I have a Peter Henderson with a medium Canmore bag, I'm 6 foot 2 inches and was considering switching to a large Ross bag with the cannisters system. I'm fairly comfortable with the Canmore bag. What are your thoughts?
I bought a set of Naills 2nd hand from a new piper who realized piping isn't for her. She had lots of money and bought top of the line everything including the same bag as you have here...except hers was small. This will not work for me as I'm a big dude and the bag feels like a peanut under my arm that I need to keep blowing constantly to keep filled. Anyway, are you noticing the bass drone pushes hard into your shoulder with this bag like the angle is wrong when it clicks into the stock? I've tried adjusting the angle and it won't change. Not sure if this is part of the design or a flaw. I would like to buy the same bag in a medium but not sure if I will have the same issue with the new one.
I switched to the Bannatyne WMC and have found it a good fit, I had one of the old style Bannatyne's in a large. It was about the same size as a Zepplin! The WMC is a big improvement for me. My drones are now at more of an angle, rather than straight up and down, and I found that moving the bag further forward accentuating this, has freed up my forearm and takes some of the strain off my wrist / fingers. Sort of Stuart Liddell style. Win win. Before I bought the WMC I did some research on bag size. I found out all the girths of the bags that interested me, then I made a sort of sock out of old jeans (sewing required!!) to the dimentions of the new bags. Slipped it over the old Zepplin sized bag, then tried playing, the sock kept the bag girth down to the size of the (as yet unbought) new bags. The WMC ended up being about the best for me. Saved a lot of £££. Feel is a helluva subjective though. I still miss sheepskin/hide bag for feel, but I don't get to play enough for that. :(

Fantastic Vlogs Andrew. You're living the life I wish I had the chance of 50 years ago.

What bagpipes would you recommend for a beginner?
what age should you pack the pipes up
I’m 6’5” and getting ready to switch out a L&M Elk Skin. I imagine, I’ll need a Large Bannatyre.
