    Winter here in New Zealand. Making soup with lots of harvested veges, and being inspired by your gardening videos 😁

      @@maritimegardening4887 you are helping people. You have the gift of observation and common sense. Some of your simplest solutions are inspired. I really liked your use of cardboard strips in your garden to plant parsnips. Your hoop house design is also worth watching. Thank you!

    That’s exactly how I build my gardens...have plenty of old trees, but I seem to hit way more rock when driving in those pegs. You make it look so easy! Inspiring video as usual. Love it!!

    Hi Greg, We don't have manure, do you think if we create a bed like this with mushroom compost, will it work? Thanks for any advice from you. Really appreciate it. Love this video and all your other videos, you help us with ideas how to not break a bank to grow food. Thank you. Cheers.

    • @maritimegardening4887
      @maritimegardening4887  2 года назад +1

      Yes that should be ok. I would grow a heavy feeder like squash or corn in the 1st year since you're filling the whole bed with compost

    I love your video's, but the music should be background soft, I mean soft, as it drowns you out at times! Please, please turn in down really low or better yet have no music at all, just sayin! Thanks for sharing!

    How old is the horse manure you’re using? I assume it’s from your own horses? Just trying to figure out where I can get some.... thanks

    • @maritimegardening4887
      @maritimegardening4887  4 года назад

      I got it from a horse stable. They usually give it away for free. This manure was not aged at all - but the garden was built in the fall - so it sat there till the following spring, and then I grew tomatoes in it (above ground veg). By the following year it (this year) it was totally broken down, and I grew potatoes. H-manure is very weak, so you can grow stuff in it - just wait a couple years before growing root veg in it and you'll be fine.

    looks nice, however do you foresee any slug problems from rotting logs? I have done something like that but without fill and using larger logs to create windbreak around zucchini transplants, but the slugs started to emerge from under the logs and chewing on the plants, so I had to remove the logs in a short order.

    • @maritimegardening4887
      @maritimegardening4887  6 лет назад +2

      I have slugs everywhere regardless of logs. I use ferric sulphate to control them when they get too bad.

      Try spraying with a water and amonia mix. turns them into fertilizer.
