I’ve ridden a lot of kinds of off road motorcycles. Currently enjoying the hell out of a 450 Honda race quad. But I don’t think ANY of the bikes I’ve ridden left the impression and thrills and memories like ripping all over the place on my 80 cc motocross 2 stroke bikes. Just an absolute blast to be 15 and ripping on your dirt bike while the other kids are pedaling
Agreed & I reckon the company's would make alot of money from doing so, cause old school bikes are the best in my opinion, not taking anything away from the new bikes that are loaded with technology
Yes chris, those were the best days of your life and my best days too chris ..i am 72 years old chris and never thought that all people would stop learning . And all people do not even have the curiosity to ask any thing as to why they can not learn ..and to add to frustration beyond anything i have ever seen or experienced that most people believe known liars . And who are the scientists the liars refer to every day to back up their continuous lies? Im never told the names nor allowed to see any scientists .. but all people believe the liars when they use the magic word " scientists " i graduated from college in 1970 with an associates degree in applied science . Upon graduation day i received a handshake and told "congratulations , you now have the tools to begin your education " . In 1974 in went
@@ianrobinson525 no they will never make as much money as they do selling high dollar disposable 4 strokes and claiming they makes more horsepower and handle better because they are heavier ..remember two strokes internally make boost beyond the air pressure that is impossible for any naturally aspirated 4 stroke to become supercharge as the rpms go up to as high as 14,000 rpm were a 2 stroke makes boost at around 5,500 rpm and continue to make more and more boost as rpms go up . And do it in far less time as it takes a 4 stroke to spin 14,000 rpm to make max hp when all two strokes are at max boost max torque and max hp in way less time and much lower rpms = way less time it takes a four stroke to buzz out way beyond any two stroke rpms so you see a 4 stroke that is big enough in displacement to match the hp of the 3 to 4 times smaller two stroke that does this in approximately one half the time it takes the 4 stroke to buzz out putting the little two stroke in first place while the bigger 4 strokes is forced to take 2nd . Kaplan America, thank you for your dedication to the art/sport/lifestyle of motorbiking. I've spent a couple hundred hours watching your videos and learning from them. It helps me get out of some of the doldrums of life. Be Safe and God Bless America !
Oriental Wizardry at its finest!! I always loved the yellow and black stinger look of the Yamaha line!!! Great job on that one Ken!! Two strokes forever!
I had a '77 YZ 100 - loved and raced it in 1980 - still had the balls to keep with the newer machines. After 81 - they were basically 125's with a 100 motor .
Same here. New for $800.00 12 years old making $1.00/hr part time at a little store. I port 2-stroke engines for a living today mostly for RC cars. Sell them all over the world. I have to give Yamaha and MX a big thanks for that. :)
You are right about the engines.. they were so easy! I was rebuilding those top ends in 8th grade. Now I’m pushing 60 and I look at my KTM 500 and shake my head.. no way I’m going on that one.
i remember this bike well!! Way back then, the school bus would drop off Darrell at his house. He would then jump on this exact bike and immediately kick it to life and race the bus to the end of the street. I stayed on the bus for another 30 minutes to my house out in the boonies of TX. it was the coolest thing! Great bike, and memory.
Man this is nice,I used to have a 79 YZ 80 when I was a kid, used to get chased on the roads by the cops all the time but always got away 😁. Hello from British Columbia 🇨🇦
Awesome!!!thanks for sharing buddy, remember going into Glastonbury Yamaha witch is now where monro muffler is and drooling at the whole Yamaha lineup!😁😁
That is the sought after weapon for the Marty Tripes 100cc Works Revenge race. Have a feeling that bike has been wheelied over at some time in it's life because usually when I see the rear fender up that high, the frame has been tweaked in the back from goin over. Other than that, the bike is sweet.
Man I would have loved one of these as a kid. Got a bit big for 80s and ended up going straight to a beast 76 rm 250. 1983 I got my first brand new Cr250 RD.
my fav YZ was a 1976 YZ 175. I bought 1 in orlando. first mono shock. I went wild.. no 250cc could touch me. professional riders. 175 class ended in 76.
I use to race a 1979 yz 125 with a 100 top end nesc amature class . In 82 cycle design started sleaving the rm 125 liquid cooled Jim meenan was the last 100 expert champ on one I believe that's the year he won all 4 classes
In the late 70's and early 80's air-cooled Yamaha 2 strokes were boss and the bikes to have. This YZ100 was a big part of that (had a 100cc) class back then. Only thing that came close later was the KX105. 2021 KX100 is pretty good. Great all around bikes and lots of fun for trail riding or mx. Great bikes and can hang with the bigger bikes. YZ100 was a very common bike back then, but now are pretty hard to get and this one has some serious mods.
Had one ......it would fly with two of us on it !! Short stroke would teally tighten up brother , that's for sure...the longer travel is exactly what it needed
I remember standing in the Yamaha dealership buying last year’s models in 1984 I was just a little too small for the 100 I wish I had bought one the 80 was a blast though
I was 14 years old in 1983 and the Yamaha dealer had a YZ 100 in the showroom and I was Hooked ! It is the Perfect bike for a kid like I was (125 pounds soaking wet) LoL
I know on the RM they were.. but with less suspension (and motor, of course). My 76 yz100 was like an 80 big wheel / big bore. Not sure if the frame was the same as an 80, but I feel like it was smaller than a 125
I owned and raced a 1982 YZ100J but they were white here in Australia. It was a great era and that bike won me a lot of races and championships. The bike in this video is the YZ100K. Basically exactly the same as the J, Yamaha didn't really do any wild changes between the J and K, so I race my J for many years and it was bullet proof. Wish I could get my hands on one but they all seem to have disappeared off the planet sadly.
Dirt bikes were small bk then then went big now back to small again . Cant beat the look of an 85 honda cr500. Dream bike would have it in my front room just to look at .
It's funny how the 83 yz80 was water-cooled like the 83 125 yet the 83 yz100 was still air-cooled . I think the air-cooled two stokes were very reliable under all rpm ranges as far as being able to ride them all year round without changing the piston and Rings .I received year round trail ripping in mine before I had the cylinder honed and new piston and Rings. Their perfect for trail ripping
Damn, that bike is gorgeous. I'd love to take it for a spin. My Uncle's Bike looked the exact same in a 125, and she was very fast....Not As fast as my 93 250, but still damn fast. 😁
I wish Yamaha would still make them all because those where the best years of my life that's for sure..
I’ve ridden a lot of kinds of off road motorcycles. Currently enjoying the hell out of a 450 Honda race quad. Well, the KX 100 is still around. I'm 62 and have a blast on that some beach. Nevertheless, that classic YZ 100 is a livingroom peice.

I remember my neighbor got one brand new. I was riding an RM125 at the time and I was very impressed with that YZ100
Yeah man! I had the 76 YZ100 and then a 79 RM100.
Gooood times!
But I'd give both of them for this one!
Love the early 80’s YZ’s.
Yeah, I don't know what it was. They just hit harder and seem more hardcore than that stuff they produce now a days.
1978 for me
I had a crush on the Suzukis of the era
There was something magical about bikes of this era.
@@chumps7974 yup!!
That was my first ever dirt bike, i had an 82 white and red uk model, fond memories

Wow, thanks!
IDK how many of those little gems were produced, but I'll take all of them please!
Even just 1 or 2 will do 😎
My cousin got one of these while I was rocking my trashed 1975 Yamaha GT 80. Never hated anyone more in my life.
The struggle is real
Looks like Christmas morning 1983.
People have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas, Santa 🤪. Your Christmas’s were definitely special 🤩🥳
Awesome!!! Brings me back to my childhood! You rock Bro!!!!🇨🇦
Tasty! I had two 1981 YZ 100 and a 1983 IT175. Love them all. My buddy had a IT490 and it was a beast!
Long live the IT's!
Oriental Wizardry at its finest!! I always loved the yellow and black stinger look of the Yamaha line!!! Great job on that one Ken!! Two strokes forever!
What an absolute GEM!
This is amazing classic 👍
Your helmet is legend 🙂
Best Regards from Poland...
I had a '77 YZ 100 - loved and raced it in 1980 - still had the balls to keep with the newer machines. After 81 - they were basically 125's with a 100 motor .
I wasn't even a tickle in my dad's ball bag when this big was born
78yz 100 started my addiction.

Jus picked up a mint 92 rm250. Thought of Ken and Ken Jr when I picked it up last night!
Sweet

Owned one of these back in the day I was 14 yrs old at the time, great little crosser
The stuff dreams were made of

Great bike, and memory.
I remember wanting one of those!
The bike that made Ronnie Lechien a minibike legend
Thank goodness!
True
I had a 1977 YZ 125. Loved that bike! Had so much fun on that thing!
That 100 holds senior pretty well!!
Oh,has 175 suspension,that helps.
No doubt! Big dude like that! Perfect play bike!
Awesome bikes for sure love the way you review the bikes
I used to wrench for Donnie Schmidt back in the days when he rode YZ80 and YZ100 for Burnsville sports center.
Had a 77'. That bike is absolutely gorgeous.
Yamaha Yella love it.
Suzuki and Yamaha made 100 Moto cross bikes in 70s. My dream bike in 1977.
That's a pretty little bike. I spent so many boring school days dreaming about those kind of things.
Man this is nice,I used to have a 79 YZ 80 when I was a kid, used to get chased on the roads by the cops all the time but always got away 😁. Hello from British Columbia 🇨🇦
I had a 76 and am still in touch with the guy I sold it to (who restored it).
Awesome!!!thanks for sharing buddy, remember going into Glastonbury Yamaha witch is now where monro muffler is and drooling at the whole Yamaha lineup!😁😁
Ah the glory days , I loved my yz100 and my rm100
Me and my buddies called our YZs killer bees 🐝
Awesome bike!
Oh man! I had that same bike back in '89. What I learned to ride on down in Pa. It didn't look that good tho,by the time I had got it. Lol.
First bike I had was a 74' MX100. The 100s were indeed a riot to ride.

I love right-side drive bikes. Something about them is just cool.

That got my ♥️ into v tack. Lol. Sounds great & it was on my list. Same as every one kid or not. 💪🏻 Yamaha !
I had a 1979 YZ100... That bike GENUINELY SCARED ME as a kid! 😂😂😂😍😍😍
I was 13 when that baby hit the dealership here in Canada ....... I had an RM but man did that thing howl and bark so sweet
My friend had an 82 and it was a cool bike
I had one of these. Great bike back in the day.
That's a diamond!!
Love it!
Had one ......it would fly with two of us on it !! Short stroke would teally tighten up brother , that's for sure...the longer travel is exactly what it needed
I still have my 1983 YZ 100 J bought in 1986. It just keeps going and going and going..
Crisp sounding sweet bike and great HRP jersey
I remember standing in the Yamaha dealership buying last year’s models in 1984 I was just a little too small for the 100 I wish I had bought one the 80 was a blast though
My first 2 stroke was an 84 YZ80
He'll yeah she moves great bike kap
God bless America 🇺🇸
Back in the day my buddy had one he was like 80 pounds totally ripin it
That thing is freakin cool!
What was the consensus on that rear suspension configuration? I think it was only around a few years and I've never heard much about it.
I was 14 years old in 1983 and the Yamaha dealer had a YZ 100 in the showroom and I was Hooked !
It is the Perfect bike for a kid like I was (125 pounds soaking wet) LoL

really looks and sound mint brother! memories!
Love it 💯
Super clean
Remember these things going to a mini race in 1982 how much faster they were going around the track than the more tech advanced 80s
i would so rock that bike around my place of employment lol.
It's not very common to have the drive side on the right-hand side, isnt it?
What a fun machine, just beautiful
2 strokes for liiiife !! So clean. Are the 100’s on the same frames as 125’s?
Ken Kaplan 2024 !!
I know on the RM they were.. but with less suspension (and motor, of course).
My 76 yz100 was like an 80 big wheel / big bore. Not sure if the frame was the same as an 80, but I feel like it was smaller than a 125
WzoW Kenny I do not remember ab83 yz100. I had a 1983 yz80 my father bought me many years ago. I loved that thing.
I owned and raced a 1982 YZ100J but they were white here in Australia. It was a great era and that bike won me a lot of races and championships. The bike in this video is the YZ100K. Beautiful old bike!!!
What a nice YZ100 with great suspension modifications! I guess the market for a transition bike between an 80 and a 125 must have gone away.
surging at idle pretty good, running lean on the pilot
Dirt bikes were small bk then then went big now back to small again . Cant beat the look of an 85 honda cr500. Dream bike would have it in my front room just to look at .
Was the 100 a sleived down 125. Or a big jug on 80 bottom end
39 лет мотоцыклу!!! Супер 👍 👍 👍
Hi. Nice bike!! What should the compression be on a 1078 yz100? I only have 80 psi
Please tell us the prices of the bikes when you buy them
CLASSIC!!
God bless 🇯🇵!
IM A CR RIPPA ,,, BUT ...... I LOVE THIS YZ 100 AND YES !!! PROB THE CLEANEST IN USA RIGHT NOW 👌🏼
I was in love with them yellow and black yz's when I younger... them bad boys were mean
is that a kz1000 police bike from Terminator 2?
Hahaa! CHIPs
@59 brings tears to my eyes..
My boy would love that weapon!👊✊💨💨💨
That's awesome. I love it
I have a 83 yz 80 I'm looking to restore and I'm having a hard time finding parts right now 😢 any suggestions?
Man what a sweet bike
My friend had a RM100 it was a great bike.
It's funny how the 83 yz80 was water-cooled like the 83 125 yet the 83 yz100 was still air-cooled . Are these for sale or is this a museum?

Another great video 👍 Don’t suppose you sell parts for dt 125 2000/2005 ?
No, sorry we dont
What a treat! I'd better hide this from my daughter, straight up!
Damn, that bike is gorgeous. I'd love to take it for a spin. My Uncle's Bike looked the exact same in a 125, and she was very fast....Not As fast as my 93 250, but still damn fast. 😁
The good old days...
If that bike was available at Yamaha, I'd buy it right now.
How about a 1983-1985 Honda replica RC250 works bike? I think they would sell every one they made. :)
Yamaha to the world
