Yes, those short rows make for a wonderful top of a hat. I've made multiple hats that are worked sideways, with short rows and I love how they turn out.

There are so many different solids it seems overwhelming to keep them straight. I wish they had a set of minis you could swatch and then when going to the store you were going for color and not color and texture at the same time.
They do sell mini sample boxes of I love this yarn & cotton!! They are worth it if you get them on the 60% off week! 🥰

Hi Ginger, love the yarn haul. Great idea about comparing yarn brand. On the spinesse yarn, I'm knitting it together with a fingering weight and getting 20 to 22 stitches to 4 inches on #6 needle. So I'm thinking it's more like a light 2 or a 1 weight.
It's so tiny - definitely not a 3!

Hi Ginger. About the hooks: I am using a 5.5 Mm. It says: I/9 5.5 mm. So you are correct about the hook size for that yarn.
Soft and sleek chunky isn't new. It's been out for years. Fresh haven is also not new, correct.
Breathe deep is a dupe of red heart amore and lion brand feels like butta. It's a tighter chainette so it's closer to the amore than the FLB which is just a tiny bit less dense.
That luxe yarn, in red, however does look like a new yarn.
They surely mean 5mm, not "size 5" for the spinesse. Labels always use mm sizing for the suggested hooks and needles. Personally, I would go with 4.5mm instead of a 5.
Simply flawless looks like a thick #3. Spinesse is clearly a #2
