The last race for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the AC-Delco sponsored 3 car, driving for his father but he'd move up to the Cup Series with the same team just with Budweiser sponsorship. Final time Junior ran the Busch schedule full-time, though he'd return to the Busch Series as a driver for a few years as a part-timer.
This was really the only race NBC covered on its own (without Turner production), and they did no other races in 1999 leading to this very strange broadcast team. Bestwick, Brian Williams, Joe Gibbs and Mike Wallace, along with most of the Turner pit crew.
@@JasonDelarosa2000 well in 2000 they were still using NBC graphics yes, but the broadcast team was entirely comprised of Turner’s 2001 crew. It was basically a test run for both Turner’s new broadcast crew, which dropped several people who had been connected with CBS (Turner’s previous network partner thru fall 2000), plus brought in Benny Parsons from ESPN, and was also a test run for the NBC corporate suits to advertise their new NASCAR partnership.
@@TheLocalLt Luring Benny Parsons away from ESPN/ABC... Wally Dallenbach retiring to join the booth... Dave Burns coming to NBC/Turner... leading to the more well known booth at the Peacock I grew up.
I totally dont remember this! I knew NBC did the year ending races in 2000 in anticipation for the new TV deal. Maybe this was a feeler way back when? Gave the corporate suits & NASCAR time to digest things. My understanding is the tracks picked their TV partners back then.
And before NBC, Mr. Bestwick lent his voice to the MRN radio coverage of NASCAR as well as the earlier Turner Sports package of said sport at TBS and had called ARCA races within the FOX Sports Networks.

0:37 I liked that theme music.

They DID do the 1999 and 2000 400s as well as the 2000 Busch race.

NBC's NASCAR debut (at least from the 1999 to 2006 era).
@PatPatrick01 Nah, he's been a lifelong fan. He and his son were in victory lane with Earnhardt at Talladega.

NBC's homestead announcing crews were so bizarre
Allen Bestwick, Joe Gibbs and Mike Wallace in the broadcast booth?? Huhhh??
@Ruddfan1997 He did Play-By-Play for TBS in 2000. In fact, he did the ARCA race that Dave UL'ed that YT screwed up.
This track actually had banking? It was so flat I could never tell.
The nutty.com 300
Actually his debut came in 1998 where he made 3 starts & a best finish of 15th.
The meetball team wins
Also I think this might be Allen Bestwick's first tv Lap-by-lap gig
He actually also did lap-by-lap for NBC's coverage of the American Le Mans Series earlier that year.

Am I the only one that thinks that Brian Williams seems so out of place here? Like, he's a Jersey boy who's a frickin' NASCAR fan!
He *is* a NASCAR fan and he's one of my ideal picks for the NBC booth in the future. He's amazing.
In the future? He is 65 & retired.
