Tuba Skinny & Simon Gronowski Collaboration

- During the fall of 2020 Tuba Skinny collaborated with Mr. Simon Gronowski after learning of his life story as a Holocaust survivor in a New York Times article. In the article Mr. Gronowski mentioned how he would like to play with the band someday. Due to the pandemic and the great distance between their cities (Mr. Gronowski residing in Belgium and Tuba Skinny in New Orleans) that seemed virtually impossible. But following the trend of online performances during the quarantine and with the help of their tech-savvy friend Russell Welch (audio/video engineer) and a few other friends who translated, the collaboration was made possible. Special guest, Erika Lewis on vocals!

OK, it is official, this is now my favorite Tuba Skinny video of all time. It is very emotional to see and hear Mr. Gronowski playing and expressing his admiration for the band. He illustrates the effect the band has on so many of us, enriching our lives in ways I hope the band understands. I know they have changed my life in so many wonderful ways. And to top it off we get to see and hear Erika for the first time since her surgery!

Amen Brother James, amen! Tuba Skinny has helped me endure the pandemic and they lead me to discover many other great bands and performers such as Marla Dixon and her bands, the Shotgun and Shakem' Up Jazz bands, The Slick Skillet Serenaders, Sarah Peterson, Maddy Reidy, Chance Bushman, Tamar Korn and a host of others too numerous to mention. At this point in the game, I can say I know how Indiana Jones felt when he discovered the Lost Ark of the Covenant! Another thing is in a year marked by so much negativity, they gave us all a reason to feel upbeat and positive that better days are ahead. And the icing on the cake is that I have been blessed to make such wonderful friends as "Pops" Coffee, Alex of digitalalexa and you!😊👍

This is a great emotional boost for me. Seeing Simon Gronowski still able to play soulful music is just wonderful. I have missed seeing and hearing you Erika. You sound wonderful! I see that you have the scar of vocal cord surgery. Mine has faded and is almost invisible now. Please take care of that voice so we can all hear it for many years to come. This is lovely on so many levels, isn't it!! Mr G's a mean man on the joanna, TS are their usual immaculate selves and then there's the gorgeous Erika in close-up with her unique voice unmarred from that thyroid operation a while back. But it's the kindness of the band and the spirit of Mr G which shines out for me. Beautiful in these awful Covid times. Bess Shaye and co. And long life to Mr Gronowski!

Marvelous Tuba! Brilliant move to embrace technology while collaborating with other artists and bringing forth the lovely virtual presence of Erika.. longing for the normal times but it will still be long road to recovery for this pandemic. Your music bring light and harmony in these dark times.

I love that they actually took the time to do several songs, not just a one and done quicky thing. Class, class and more class, each and every one, from top to bottom.
