When making a roost for the chickens and turkeys you should avoid using flat pieces of wood. They can get bumble foot which is like swelling on the foot. Just use sticks and branches from the woods for free and its healthier for your animals!

FLAIR, I've seen some people who keep chickens and use an auto chicken feeder via their old scraps, old food compost, and the fly life cycle. It's like the goat feeders (but taller) you have but the bottom is mesh, allowing the maggots to fall out. The whole thing is filled with *from bottom to top* coconut fiber (husk), soil, soft dirt, and a lot of old food and scrap. The top is covered with a tarp (to prevent the chickens from "cleaning house") w/only enough space to allow the Flys in to do their business. Should also be at a slight angle (the bottom being angled up towards the top rig) to allow some maggots to fall out. This is low key a good way to reduce the Flys around the ranch too! Here is a short video on building a starter one (small flock (less then 30)), the one I described is for a very large flock.

I had trouble with the rickys. Knock on wood but I believe I solved my issue. A run poly wire around anything that needs protection. For example right now I have a chicken tractor that I protect by wrapping 4 lines around it. Bottom 2 is the ones that will stop the rickys. Upper layer for coyotes. It’s a little bit of effort but better than finding dead chickens. I also don’t play with those weak chargers. I want a charger that spits fire. 1.0 is when everything is perfect. What happens when it’s wet, and the grass is a little long?
Order a chicken plucker and scalded. You will need it.

Hey Flair! Got a tip for you! I’ve found that when you get chicks that are not energetic or are sickly or anything like that, it’s insanely good to give them egg yolk from your free range hens! Just get a small syringe and give them 8 drops of fresh egg yolk into their mouths about 2-4 times a day and 98% of my chicks I’ve done this with have gotten better in even as little as 24hrs 😄 it’s especially very helpful when you get the chicks from the mail because they usually haven’t eaten or drank anything for hours and the yolk gives them a really good kick start. Love your vids! God Bless!

For the meat birds make sure you get them 22% protein feed after the chick starter. You will also need to have them on a feed schedule of 12 hours with food and 12 hours without food after the first week. Otherwise they can grow too quickly and have health issues like heart attacks.

  • @Thepursuitforwhitetail

So I showed meat chickens at the state fair and I always start by feeding them turkey starter feed then use meat bird feed once they get about 2-3 weeks old it will get them to grow fast and they taste so good we also use electrolytes in there water it comes with a couple powder packets you can also put mullasus in there water like 1/4 cup of it a day it makes them do so good

  • @livingdunkellife1757

Another thing you can do to keep raccoons and coyotes out is put chicken wire on the outside at the bottom perpendicular to the enclosure. Just tie it to the bottom rail on the outside laid flat with the ground and throw some dirt on it. They try to dig and run into the wire and don’t know enough to dig where the chicken wire isn’t.

Flair get 2 chicks from tractor supplies that are a few days older or a week old and the new chicks will follow the older chicks to drink and eat chick starter. And for the other chickens and baby turkeys mix there food with scratch grains chicken feed and chick starter, so they can have the energy and growth you are looking for. I love you're ideas and the years of trying you have learned..

  • @joshuanelson939
    @joshuanelson939 2 года назад

Don’t know if you will read this but I have recently gotten big into chickens and to start them off the first like two months I would recommend finding a game bird crumble chick starter because it is a lot higher in protein should be between 22 and 28% which will in turn help them become some beefcakes!!!! There are a lot of different kinds but really just high protein for the first 8 weeks and get non medicated food. The medicated food can keep the birds from getting nutrients that it needs. The water mixes are good also that you got. I use Manna pro one that is like $8 for like 45 servings and you can give it separate plus water but it will go bad after awhile. I really think for your turkeys and meat chickens you will be really happy if you get some higher protein food and tractor supply I think it’s more along the wild game bird/ turkey/ show bird food.

I am a pro at raising chickens. I currently have 150 chickens not counting the babies
To get them started you should put vinegar and honey in the water. The less lively the more you put. It really doesn't matter how much you put in but make sure it's not too concentrated. Another trick is to separate the less lively because the ones that are stronger tend to kill the weaker ones. Hope you have good luck!

We had like fifty that we threw in an old kids playhut thingy that we had laying around. When they were big enough we chopped their heads off plucked them and put them in jars.
Then we took and ate chickens for two years one jar at a time.
Oh, and our bedroom was the old entryway between the garage and the house and we stored the glass jars on a shelf along one of our walls. So when the moon was just right and shining through the window at night we got to stare at plucked chickens in jars. Our foster brother had the old garage as his bedroom. He had a door so he could work nights and not bug anyone when he left and got home.

Treat all enclosures like Burt Gumner compound in Tremors. 3 foot trench with concrete and electricfy the frame, lol. If you make the enclosure with wheels you can move it every other week or so and let them scratch at new forage, while the old spot regenerates. Would save on feed cost for them. Look up regenerative chicken. When i get some land i hope to do that with a couple goats and pigs and then the chickens.

I'm in Lincoln but was an assistant manager at the Lincoln Orschelns and worked there part-time until recently. I keep yelling at the screen on where you need to get the stuff you're asking for.
Your big insecticide sock....there's a pack that has the fly whips to tie onto it for better coverage, should be in a white cardboard box about a foot long with the same color logo on it. Some instructions also call for soaking the socks in diesel fuel.
Yes on your sheep just NO COPPER so the sheep and goats can have sheep tubs but only goats can have a goat tub. Also on a shelf over the cow feeds there should be a specific bloat block vs the blue protein tubs that you got which by all means hurt nothing as minerals should be kept up. Try picking up a bag of nutrebeef mineral next time, it's somewhat of a teal blue color.
If you need a cheap crushed concrete source, Silex just southeast of Springfield has the hookup.
As far as the meal worms, watch which you get if you don't raise them as we sometimes carried multiple brands. In the bird food isle there is like a 25# bag but it's like flipping $80 or something.
Your experience picking up the chicks is exactly how I used to pick them up at the post office behind walmart in north lincoln for Orschelns. You've got it all set up fine.

Yes you can use the same bands for casterating for tails I would know because we have about 200 head of sheep and that’s what we use for lambs.

Got an idea. Get a big brush and put it in the middle of the animal pen (so they don't keep pushing up against the fence over time)

I show sheep back in Texas in the same county that the Googan HQ is in. Tail docking was pretty good after the tail falls off be very careful and look at her everyday it should scab up and be white. It will bleed if it gets touched even a bit so make sure they don’t bang it on something. You can also buy some stuff if it starts to bleed to help it. Also when it starts getting hot make sure you shear that mom and other other sheep with longer wool because sheep can die easily if they are to hot because of their wool. Also clean there waters Probbly around 2-3 times a week.

Quick tip flair my man. If you use stones round the bottom they will dig through it. Use flag stones to surround it they wont dig through

flair i do this trick for dogs that try to dig out of their kennel take a piece of your panel and cut about a 2 foot wide strip out of it and then bend it at a 90 degree angle so it’s about a foot on each side of the angle and then bury it around the outside of the pen facing out then zip tie it or whatever to the pen and you won’t have to worry about stuff digging under it
