    Hey guys :) Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who welcomed me back on my last video. It warmed my heart to read your comments and it means so much to be welcomed back with open arms after so long. Thank you all for being so wonderful and for creating such a lovely space.
    I know todays topic will bum some people out, but I definitely do not want to discourage anyone from continuing your Ayurvedic journey. Even though there will be limited to no Ayurvedic content moving forward, I’m so glad that the videos I’ve made thus far have made such an impact on your lives, it was bittersweet that life moved me away from Ayurveda, but I hope you guys can enjoy it’s wonderful benefits for years to come. and for those who have been struggling with similar issues to what I’ve been experiencing more recently, I hope that any new hair content I upload can support you as well.

    It doesn't matter, curly or straight, hair is much more similar than different. Most of the RUclipsrs I see using heavy products, like shea moisture, rarely use clarifying shampoo. The heavy coating builds up on the hair, prevents products from working, and results in matting, tangles, etc. I hope people learn from your video. Happy New Year. 🎉
    ETA- Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying to anyone, don't use your favorite products. Just add a clarifying shampoo and see the difference in how products work. Also, make sure that products are pH balanced. pH balanced products work for all hair types regardless of porosity or curl type.

    Nice that your routine is working now! I started following Abbey Yung too even as a black girl with coily hair lol. While there are obvious differences in black hair vs straighter hair types, at the end of the day, hair is hair, so it’s always nice to be open to what you can learn from other hair types and pick and choose what works for you. I dropped out of the Hair Olympics years ago, opting to not diy anything and adopt a low maintenance routine. Through some simple changes I was able to go from a routine that had me in the shower for 2-3 hours and another 2+ hours on styling, to having my hair shampooed, conditioned, detangled and styled in 2 hours. My hair also feels a lot better because with my old routine I had severe mid shaft splits. I would love to see your new routine!

Only think I don't agree with her on is the drug store shampoos & that hair oil. I started oiling my hair before washing but I use Biossance Squalane oil & it made more of a difference. & I've been using split end menders as a preventative measure. I will start using Epres from next week & I'm so excited!

    I’m glad you came to this conclusion about ayurveda. I was doing all of it as well and everything was good until it wasn’t. My hair started to fall out, I lost like half my thickness and length. Was about hip length at the time. Basically had to grow a new head of hair and cut off the damage. I would steer anyone that asked away from any Ayurveda and diy. I would be careful with the henna as well. It is known to fill up the hair strand and block out moisture from getting in. I will never be using it again, I think all this stuff is terrible.
    I now use just regular shampoo and conditioner, nothing extra. My hair thickened back up so nicely and the length is growing back 🙏🏾

      On the contrary, Ayurveda has helped my hair to grow nearly thigh length and much thicker and more dense. I have an autoimmune disease and lost my hair. I have stopped using all chemicals in my hair: no more conventional shampoos and conditioners. My hair is the healthiest it has ever been and the longest it has ever been in my life. Everyone is different.

      @Leah_Tewari So true. I experienced similar auto immune and hormone changes and started ayurvedic journey a few years ago, starting with henna dyes then working my way up to other herbs, ditching those items that my hair didn't like (eg coconut oil, rice water or fenugreek - I was using too many protein-rich items without realising. Popular Jamaican black castor oil was another - my scalp would literally feel like I set it on fire, itching and burning; I was totally fine with clear castor oil.
      You're right. Every hair and scalp is different and moderation for certain herbs/products is crucial. Find what your hair/scalp likes, research and use, monitoring as you go.

    Unless I have heard incorrectly. Your description of your younger hair is the extreme opposite of low porosity hair. Based on your description and provided hair is free of product build up, your hair started off as high porosity and changed to low porosity which is considered more healthy and makes sense based on using henna and fenugreek. It also sounds like you may have gotten protein overload. Ingredients really matter. Clarifying and limited protein and products that mimic it at every step should help. I trust this helps. Be well.

    Hello Queen! You may want to check into the henna usage as well. It is beneficial in strengthening the hair, but it also loosens the curls. Some hair doesnt detangle as easily anymore as well. If you go check out our Queens that use henna, you will notice that (not all of them) but a majority of them have developed a looser curl pattern. Yes their hair is flourishing in length, but if you follow the journey you can see a difference in the curl. With that said, even with moisturizing/conditioning, it is hard for the curls to go back to their original curl pattern. I’m 62 now, but many moons ago, I used to use henna, for strengthening. My hair was already long and I had tons of it, I just wanted it stronger. Henna achieved that, but then slowly but surely I noticed my hair wasn’t as curly. I actually had to start trimming away my hair as it grew to get rid of the henna, as I wanted my curls back. Henna is a protein, fenugreek is a protein, amla is a protein, etc etc. Sometimes even a little of a lot of things can eventually be too much!
    Also, my hair dries extra fast, which over the years I’ve been told is high porosity.
    Keep your head up Queen, it’ll bounce back!

      Have you noticed a difference in your hair because of the tea?

    • @A_Wilson
      @A_Wilson 2 дня назад +4

      @MYSTERIOUSasLOVE. I can’t say that my hair is better because of the tea. I keep my hair in plaits or twists, I protect my ends, I strictly finger detangle, I use henna, and I baby my strands. I also take collagen, vitamins and an iron supplement. Because I really take care of my hair and have an ‘inside out’ approach, I can imagine it’s the combination of everything allowing my hair to grow and retain length. I also pray to the Lord Jesus about my hair, and that, I KNOW, has helped. Even with a setback using Shea butter, I retained a lot of length, so I can imagine the fenugreek tea helped, I just can’t single it out. 😅

      @A_Wilson День назад +2

      @Whippersnapper57. Shea butter caused my hair to shed excessively over a period of months. I at first attributed it to postpartum shedding, till my son turned a year. It should have ceased by then. Once I stopped using it, the shedding stopped. It was the last thing I would have thought would cause me to shed. I learned a hard lesson. Treat natural products like unpreserved food; they have a short shelf life, even with no sign of deterioration.

      You are correct. My daughter’s hair is low-porosity and takes forever to dry, however mine is high-porosity and dries fast. Ayurvedic haircare has helped my hair a lot. You just need to have a balance with it, clarify your hair and most of all know what your hair like or doesn’t like. Too much of a good thing can ruin your hair if you do not have a glance with it…..herbs, clays, oils, and butters.

    • @wordsbymaribeja1470
      @wordsbymaribeja1470 2 дня назад +3

      This is a misconception about what porosity is, porosity is determined by curl pattern and by definition type 4 cannot be low porosity, a lower porosity yes, but on the high porosity scale. Porosity is technically a term to gage how well a hair type accepts or resists chemical treatments, not about moisture. Alot of characteristics that black people use to determine they have low porosity hair is likely build up from the products we use on our hair. Each bend in the curl pattern of afro hair is a site of high porosity - where chemicals, moisture can get in but also that can get out.

      @ you can determine if your hair is low porosity or high porosity by testing a strand of hair in a half cup of water. If the strand of hair floats, then its low porosity, if it sinks to the bottom or halfway to the bottom then it’s high porosity
      POROSITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR CURL PATTERN. THAT IS THE DUMBEST THING I EVER HEARD.

    I think the Ayurvedic haircare made your hair a lower porosity not higher porosity (which is why people do it because their hair is extremely dry). But this can happen with products like lamellar water, bond builders, keratin treatments, protein treatments, silicones, etc. High porosity hair dries quicker. It accepts moisture easily but loses it just as fast bc the cuticles in the hair strand are open. I'd say how you were describing your hair before you started Ayurvedic haircare was pure medium porosity which is ideal. If you don't like your hair on the lower end of the porosity scale, you still need to be careful with today's hair products bc they are STRONG & permanent. I used Redken Acidic Bonding Pre-shampoo treatment to make my hair ph more acidic which closes the cuticle & makes it less porous. My hair is how you described with Ayurvedic haircare, however I can't really change it. This is good bc my hair ends are permanently fixed, but I've stopped using the product. With Ayurvedic haircare & things like chebe powder they are temporary & more likely to be product building up on the hair over time vs actually repairing the hair strands like modern haircare & bond building treatments do. So that's why I never tried it because I was looking for something more permanent & reparative.

    As I see it, you are using henna, so you are using Ayurveda, just not to the extent you once were. Herbs are powerful, so moderation is the key . Too much of a good thing can lead to bad results. Practical usage of Ayurveda is always recommended by all the gurus I have seen here on RUclips. They advise that the herbs are potent, and you can suffer from protein overload and breakage if you do not balance the recipes or follow up with moisture. Curl losing can result from henna use without balancing it with amla. They advise u to use amla to balance the curl loosening and keep the curls healthy and bouncy.

    Your hair has been changed by SILICONE, I can bet. I've got type 4b/c African hair and just this past fortnight I've come to realise that silicones are god's gift to delicate Afro hair, and likely ALL hair. Any deep treatment moisture mask or leave in that ends in CONE or starts in Dimeth... or Cyclo... are silicone or silicone derivatives and they've changed my hair. I've (do not recommend) bought pure silicone and added to existing products that I need to use up and the upgrade is CRAZY. I've also bought the tresemme beautifully strength (which is a carbon copy of the keratin heat protection oil), and I'll also buy the pantene argane oil - both oils have silicons (partially water soluable) as the largest ingredient. I will be avoiding no silicone products like the plague.

    I don’t trust these companies anymore! Just make your own products from ‘natural’ ingredients, hopefully truly natural.
