      Well, I first saw your video on how to sing higher without straining, and you demonstrated a technique that in just 2 days, my highest note went from G4 to D5!!
      Of course I know I still have much to learn, so I suscribed to your channel that day. I've never had vocal lessons until I started college two years ago, and nothing my instructor told me made sense. Now when I see your constant series of vids, everything is starting to make sense! I just wanted to say thank you for accomplishing your goals and being humble in sharing your steps to greater success and clarity!

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  9 лет назад +2

      Yair Alkon A3 to C6 sounds terrible to me, might as well just give up now! It sounds to me like you don't do any singing, if you did you would notice that the most important and used area in singing only spans about 2 octaves - E3-E5. Tell me what songs you need to sing that require the use of the 6th and 7th octave. You need to spend more time singing songs, creating songs and recording songs. Forget about range, you have more than enough for any song. Focus on quality now.

    Hi Phil, great video - thanks. I was wondering what you though of Jay Kay's voice from Jamiroquai, I've always really admired his singing, especially his early stuff e.g. Virtual Insanity, and how he always managed to soar to the high notes effortlessly, even though he does have a pretty low speaking voice. I was wondering if you might have an opinion on his technique. Thanks again.

    Beautiful words but.... As many other vocal coach you're always talking like everybody have the same kind of of vocal cords... If someone is a heavy baritone can sing just in his range because of his phisiology! Same for tenors... They can go high because of less weight in the voice! is not fair to make dream someone about something that will be never able to do... Just for money or ignorance.

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  4 года назад +1

      Everyone has different voices but high notes are not just reserved for tenors. Listen to Tom Jones. He can go higher than many tenors can and better than them because his voice is very strong and he sings with the right technique. People with lighter and higher voices will be able to SIT in the high range more comfortably, but people with low heavy voices can still hit those notes. Yes baritones can get to C5 etc in full voice.
      I teach people how to do this all the time. Sounds like you've given up or have had bad teachers in the past (or perhaps you've tried to unsuccessfully self teach yourself). You can't make judgements on my teaching method until you've actually studied with me - and if you had, you would be seeing results. The question now is, do you want to stay jaded and unsuccessfull or do you want to make a change?

    Something about u Phil screams "i studied with Ken Tamplin"...maybe im wrong

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  10 лет назад

      Hi Elvis. I have studied Ken's method, Jaime Vendera's method, James Lugos method, Jim Gillettes and Seth Riggs method. Ken Tamplin and Jaime Vendera are good friends of mine and they are excellent coaches and people.
      All the methods I studied are very similar (SLS was the most different) and share the same key components of building a singing voice. No matter what method or teacher you choose to train with, there are always key fundamentals that NEVER CHANGE (except perhaps how they are explained).
      I think what makes me successfull as a teacher is my ability to really feel the issues a singer is having when hearing their voice and be able to explain things in a way they can understand. I have had many singers come to me that had studied GREAT TECHNIQUE but just didn't really know how to APPLY IT. It was my ability to explain things to them that helped them on the path of INTERPRETING GOOD TECHNIQUE CORRECTLY.
      I think this is the KEY to a singer having success. If you try to work the steering wheel in your car with your elbows it is going to be difficult, no matter how well the car is built. Likewise, even with the best methods and techniques...if you don't interpret them correctly you will still fail! The DELIVERY of the information is just as important a the actual information you are delivering.
      This is why I embrace the fact there are many coaches teaching similar methods...because not everyone resonates with the way a coach explains something, so they have many to pick from. My recommendation is to find a teacher that:
      1. Can provide proof (either them singing, or students of theirs they have trained)
      2. can explain the concepts and teachings in a way YOU UNDERSTAND.
      I hope this helps!

    hi there, im 21 and has a really really deep talking voice and jazzy singing voice... but i've been trying to sing a song called "She's Gone by Steelheart" for years!! unfortunately i can't... my question is, does "everyone" can hit that high note no matter how deep their voice are?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 лет назад

      +Loloyo yes you can "hit" notes but singing them is a whole different story. Everyone has their sweet spot and someone with a lower voice will have high notes in a different position than someone with a naturally high voice already. having said that, you most likely haven't developed your range to anywhere near your potential

      Actually just listing your range is no indication of what "voice type" you are. As I said, you are human. Whether you are bass, baritone or tenor you can learn to sing higher than what you most likely will ever need because you are human and humans work a very certain way.

    Hey, I'm curious about something.
    So, as a singer, who went through puberty, my range became limited (I couldn't even hit A3, yeah, it was a problem). But through time I grew from my range being G2-A3 to Eb2 - F#4. On extremely good days I can hit G4 and I have once even it G#4.
    My breathing and the way I have been singing has been right, but do you think puberty is causing my voice to be shortened. I feel the room and the space between any possible headroom is huge.
    Since I have the ability to belt every note in my range and there are very few in my uncontrollable headvoice (which I believe is somewhere around D5-C6, it's just a few notes my voice can hit). How do I build up my voice farther. I want to be able to hit A4 and up into C5 (I have some friends who can go higher).
    I'm 17 and my voice became deep around 14 years old. So, I am unsure if the amount of time that has passed hasn't been long enough for more of my range to come back.

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  9 лет назад

      F#4 is the normal "break" for male tenors. This video shows you all the things that are required in order to extend your full voice up to as high you want. Actually applying these things is a different story and cannot be answered in a paragraph, it is answered through lessons and feedback to ensure you are doing it properly.
      You can take my free vocal assessment here and I will tell you what's going on:

      When we are reaching up for high notes we tend to fall flat. When we learn how to focus our resonance properly we can begin to LAND on TOP of the notes. This doesn't mean that is all there is to pitch, there are many factors. But perhaps this video may interest you:

    I'm 16 and I changed my voice around a year ago and I used to be a treble that possibly hits around G5. Now I've got quite a low voice with around F2 to E4. Seems to me that I've got a rather small vocal range and I'm a baritone. With a falsetto I could sing possibly up to G5, but with a very light and ugly sound. Could I possibly get up to there with a chest voice or a firmer voice?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  4 года назад

      when I first started anything above F4 was impossible for me, then once I got through that, A4 was my next sticking point also. what you're going through is very common, but you can get through it with the right training. PHILMOUFARREGE.COM

    Ok, one question; are there any muscles that we must build to sing higher by singing and singing for years, or just technique?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  9 лет назад

      There is a degree of "muscle building" but it is more a case of muscle coordination. You don't need to go to the gym to sing high notes, you practice properly and the proper musculature will start to become coordinated properly, just the way it would if you were playing golf. Doing bicep curls wouldn't help you hit the ball better than tiger woods, it's all about practicing the movements correctly and accurately.
      If you practiced swinging your golf stick wrongly you could practice for 2 years and would not get the results someone gets who practices the swing correctly for 2 years. This is the same with singing.
      If you want me to tell you whether you are approaching things correctly, you can go check out my FREE vocal assessment here:

    Following your definition of chest voice, would you say operatic tenors sing their powerful high notes in "all chest voice" too? Do they use the same setup of laryngeal muscles as rock/pop singers do?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 лет назад

      Yes. Although most rock & pop singers don't dig in deeply nearly as much as the oldschool opera singers. singing opera requires a different feeling than singing contemporary but ithe technique I teach works for both.

    • @haiducable
      @haiducable 8 лет назад

      Thanks. So then, in reverse, we could also say that if you can sing opera, you can also sing rock/pop with the same technique, right?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 лет назад

      yep but you'd need to adjust things to stylistically fit in.

    taking off ken tamplin much?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 лет назад +4

      +Lemony Sherberts Ken is a good friend and teaches good things. I learned a lot of things off him as well as other good coaches like Jaime Vendera, James Lugo and Seth Riggs' material. I even learned stuff off Brett Manning's courses. Since then I have made my own discoveries and developments that separate my "method" quite a fair bit. Because I needed to find a way to sing both rock and rnb authentically. But I will stress that the body works a certain way and good technique is good technique. There really isn't anything "new". It was all worked out hundreds of years ago. So there definitely will be a resemblence, and in fact all the good teachers I just mentioned...I found all their teachings to be very similar because, well, good technique is good technique. Find someone who resonates with you and learn what they know. Best wishes.
