You can't use a standard 2.5" SSD with the MSata port on the board, but you can use a SSD through the Sata ports on the boards, Generally Mid towers support standard ATX boards, so if you're picking up a Mid Tower just check if it supports ATX form factor.
@defiled3s Hands down that would be the Asus P8Z68-V PRO, I bought it last month along with a 2600k (overclocked to 5GHZ on air) and all I can say is wow, no doubt the best board I have ever owned.
pepople, do not throw your motherboard drivers away, use it as a backup if there is no internet connection or you dont have another computer to download them from
This board fried on me in a month. do yourself a favor buy one of their more performance boards or go with a different brand. One thing I will say about this board is installation, functionality and overclocking were insanely easy.
This is the motherboard I have! Well, I have the Z68XP-UD3P, so it's a LITTLE different :P It runs great, I don't know where people are getting the idea that it has a boot cycle :/
@HalfCasteness nope just pllug it in the back, if you ever get an external or internal set of usb 3.0's with header you just plug it into the onboard port. easy as that.
@rolandFTW000 without an aftermarket cooler you are basically stuck at stock speeds. don't be cheap and buy a decent aftermarket cooler and you can reach 4Ghz easily, with high-end coolers you can reach 4.5 to 4.8Ghz easily
I got the Asus z68 board it's looks better (I have a window on my case) and I has a few more fetures and I have the same setup 2:48 with the 6870. Just got it a few days ago I love it
@AsianPerson3 Yeah I'm thinking of buying GTX 570 & i5-2500K, 8GB RAM etc. for Christmas, but I really don't know should I wait for the new ones. :P Reason why I'd wait is, because I don't upgrade my PC often, so I want it to last around +3 years and then get new one. So that's why I'm on the new generation. ;)
Just throw the Motherboard away and download the latest from the website. Also, how much money do you think you hvae spent on Computer Parts within the last year?
i would be great full if you could take your time to answer a question, im 15 and live in New Zealand, its hard to find cheap parts here, any idea of some budget parts i could use to build a decent computer thanks!
i still dont get it why in my sub box i get only machinima videos not others ? while videos from other(linus, mishka, laika, moki) i get in my all actions box
I have a cheap 'Gigabyte Superb E720' psu (720 watts) and a intel core i7 2600k which i wish to overclock. is it safe to do so, and if it is, wat the maximum clock speed can i reach without having to buy cooler and without have a chance of short circuiting?
This is false information seeing as most Z68 boards and some P67 motherboards support Ivy Bridge processors via a simple BIOS/UEFI update like this Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 which I am running with a i5 3570K at this moment. Even the majority of Z68 motherboards have PCI-E 3.0 switches as well.
So I r confused. should I get this mobo or the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3.. i am planning on putting an MSI GTX 560 ti and a core i5 2500k on there. I have the budget to buy an SSD too so I'm just not sure on the mobo.
@AsianPerson3 Yeah, maybe I'll get a PC for Xmas then, you are convincing me. :D Will upgrade this old monitor to a full HD monitor aswell. ^^ I like the fact that the i5-2500K OC's so much.
@jh3496 Yep. But my rig is like +3 years old already, works fine tho but I'd like to play Skyrim, RAGE, BF3 and what not with decent fps and graphics. :P I have Radeon 4870, old. :D But yeah, I'll be going towards Radeon 7970 or something from Nvidia, if they release the GPU's like this 500 series, I'd go for 670/680. Mostly depending on the price. And Ivy Bridge would be sweet, as what I've heard Bulldozer would be like the same as Sandy.
@juusacknewbb11 Lol The 2500k will be good for a long while. I don't plan on upgrading for a long while. My specs. ASUS P8p67 Delux Intel core i5 2500k 4.7GHz OC Dominaror Vengence 1600MHz AMD 6870 970MHz core 1150MHz mem. Sofar I can max any game at 1080p including Metro. I would upgrade the graphics in the future. But that's bout it. I had a core 2 Quad build for like 4 years. I just upgraded about a month ago. I'm happy.
@juusacknewbb11 Don't hold your breath. Nvidia won't be releasing an extremely new card for a while. Games aren't all that demanding as the graphics aren't advancing as fast as the hardware. If Nvidia releases anything it will only be like 15 to 20% faster than the old cards. While in the meantime the 580s and 570s will be on sale. Its like Going to Ivy bridge when the Sandy bridge prettymuch destroys all. Even the i7 950s aren't bottlenecking anything.
Still using this motherboard in 2018 with an i7-2600K and two GTX 670 in SLI. Incredibly enough this still runs most new titles at medium settings :-)
I run the same with a 7850, still good enough for most modern stuff yeah!
@@jurryaany I'm running it with a 3770K and RX 570 OC and it runs DCS very well 50+FPS high settings.
just ordered a Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 mobo yesterday. my review will be up the day it arrives :D
Damn Linus. You've become fast as hell. Super quick unboxing, on point and everything covered! :)
You can't use a standard 2.5" SSD with the MSata port on the board, but you can use a SSD through the Sata ports on the boards,
Generally Mid towers support standard ATX boards, so if you're picking up a Mid Tower just check if it supports ATX form factor.
i use this motherboard with an overclocked i7, works fantastic
Does it work with windows 10?
for a value board this has just about everything ya could want. very slick.
My plan is to buy this with i5 2500k, Corsair Vengeance ram, blue, 2x4gb and Corsair CX600W PSU. Seems good enough 4me ^^. Thank you for this video!
aight watching rn in 2020 🤪☝🏻❤️
when ever i watch a linus' video ... i feel happy :)
Still usign this MB with 2500K and noctua cooler. Only upgrade was change GTX 560 to 970. Thanks for this video
oh my gosh same. felt a little called out when he named my exact specs today all the way back in 2011.
Does it work with windows 10?
@@ScoobySnacks7 Yes. Needed flash UEFI bios
They should do it so as the Driver DVD goes and downloads the latest drivers from their site and install them itself, that would be better :D
@6Muraro6Lucifer6 Actually, he does. The body that regulates the SATA standards have instructed retailers to call it Sata III 6Gb/s
sooo i need a ivy bridge processor to use de PCIE3.0?
@defiled3s
Hands down that would be the Asus P8Z68-V PRO, I bought it last month along with a 2600k (overclocked to 5GHZ on air) and all I can say is wow, no doubt the best board I have ever owned.

Don't throw away that Driver CD until you install the Ethernet so you can access the website to get the rest!
nice board, great performance for the money
I would wait until Ivy Bridge and Z77 is released
Linus when are you going to show us the corsair h100/2600k overclocking video you promised us?? Everyone please thumbs up so linus can see it!
You forgot to say that the cables were blue... Damn you Linus!
I've been clicking on each subscription to see if they have any new videos. FIX IT RUclips!
I'm really curious what Linus does with the product after the box opening.
With W7 you should not need LAN drivers nor WLAN drivers.
"Black, Flexible, My favourite kind" ... Oh Linus ;)
Black and flexible is his favorite kind ;)
You should better buy the GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 since it is not really much more expensive than this and it is a better one
your favorite is black and flexible???
You should unbox the Zotac Z68 motherboard
Can you start saying the price during the unboxing?
I'm thinking of buying a new PC. But should I wait for Ivy Bridge/Bulldozer & GTX 600 series/Radeon 7000 series?
How did it take you guys 4 days to notice? I noticed after 12 hours
Black and flexible, his favorite kind.
@MecTecher I don't know if the "U" stands for value-oriented or it stands for newer revision.
NICE Board ....but can U just slow down the harmony pls...?!
I got the Asus z68 board it's looks better (I have a window on my case) and I has a few more fetures and I have the same setup 2:48 with the 6870. Just got it a few days ago I love it

no, sorry only z77 boards can use ivybridge
Have one :) I LOVE it. Ivybridge compatible because no uefi
Now we know what Linus’s favourite kind is. Black and flexible. :D
Tell us more about your job Linus!
@pranksterENG i totally agree i think he should unbox the EVGA_sr2 motherboard.
@TheWarCandy
the new optical drives are using sata3
Could you have a gtx 680 and a i5 3570k on this board? Thank you :)
Just throw the Motherboard away and download the latest from the website.
Also, how much money do you think you hvae spent on Computer Parts within the last year?

i still dont get it why in my sub box i get only machinima videos not others ?
while videos from other(linus, mishka, laika, moki) i get in my all actions box
why didnt you unbox the UD5? its the newer one
yea my sub box is not updating at all, bummer. been having to go to all activity menu, and its annoying.
Is this better than the rampage 3 extreme? or what is the best motherboard from Asus at the moment?
@rsgamer4 Basically, you need to use 2 monitors, i think
I have absolutely no idea what he just said. All I know is, its a device.
I have a cheap 'Gigabyte Superb E720' psu (720 watts) and a intel core i7 2600k which i wish to overclock. is it safe to do so, and if it is, wat the maximum clock speed can i reach without having to buy cooler and without have a chance of short circuiting?
whats the difference between this and the UD3P?
It doesn't have a VGA port, is it not an issue?
make an overlclocking guide for the i7 2600k with this mobo PLZ!
@LinusTechTips how much would this mobo set me back?
This is false information seeing as most Z68 boards and some P67 motherboards support Ivy Bridge processors via a simple BIOS/UEFI update like this Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 which I am running with a i5 3570K at this moment. Even the majority of Z68 motherboards have PCI-E 3.0 switches as well.

My subbox worked just fine...
@gkarv1 yes i know but he did it to qucik and i asked about a new installion of windows aswell.he just showed it with an windows installed already
build a system around this board!!!
i dont know if he said it but what is the processor socket type?
2:13 "black, flexible, my favorite kind" hehe
@AsianPerson3 Yeah, maybe I'll get a PC for Xmas then, you are convincing me. :D Will upgrade this old monitor to a full HD monitor aswell. ^^ I like the fact that the i5-2500K OC's so much.
my sublist is not updating either!
@rlowdon thank you
my board is UBERvalue. 1 chassis fan header, 3 pin FTW.
(Asus m2n68-am plus) I do have decent parts on it. fans are overrated ;)
I'm getting this board but the UD3H
RUclips YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE ME GO INTO AN ALL CAPS RAAAAGGGEEEEEE!!!!
Should motherboards cost me more than my gpu/cpu (not combined)
No
Never throw away CDs for your Mobo!!!
Could someone answer this. 3:01 Why is it 6+1 cos isn't that just 7 o_O
@marino4691 Not everyone can afford a $270 motherboard so he likes to appeal to a wider range of people (I'm guessing)
@rhyboy1 hi, i'm planning to buy that also it is good compare to asus sabertooth p67? other that the chipset benefit of course.
No cat? :(
@Sodisna *to
@legoman3342 I just remembered, my core 2 duo has no l3 cache. Only 2 mb of l2 cache D: and yours has 4 cores, so mine is hereby crappier ;3
Anybody know if a large cooler like hyper 212 evo wil have clearance issues with ram on this board?
Will it work with ivy bridge chip sets?
Up to a 3770K with BIOS F-10
"Black and flexible, my favourite kind." THATS WHAT SHE SAID AHAHAHA
@juusacknewbb11 Lol The 2500k will be good for a long while. I don't plan on upgrading for a long while. My specs. A black IO shield. Megusta,
@OpticalHaze It's not expensive lol
