Love 'em! At one point in my life, I had six lawyer friends, none of whom were practicing. They had all left (because they hated it so much) and were doing something else. They had all the best lawyer jokes.
Absolutely brilliant! If ever there was a perfect synopsis of the dubious claims of religious myths, and the cognitive shortcomings of homo sapiens, this episode of MrDeity is IT. Thumbs up, faved, and enthusiastically urging spouse to his laptop to view aforementioned marvelous video!
I just love the tiny jokes you throw away in so many of your scripts that we have to listen closely for, like finding easter eggs! 4:00 - "I don't think you're a beast." You're just priceless!
"I keep thinking it's Julia Sweeney. I had to let her go..." That was a freaking deep cut. Julia Sweeney made that one woman show called Letting Go of God.
This is probably my favorite episode so far. I love that you finally worked in the Jungian Archetype Hero reference as well as Josephus and the probable forgery perpetrated by Eusebius. Well done! Now if you could touch on the Epicurian Paradox and "The Problem of Evil" I think you'd have a perfect argument. My hat's off to you, sir.
Glad to see you back! Had a really good chuckle about the Santorum bit, partly because I'd Googled it a short while ago to double-check if that still worked.
Very funny episode. Myth-informed was my favorite pun. I had to restrain myself from clicking the Like button before watching the episode in its entirety -- premature jocularity.
@TheMrTomkennedy That's one of my favorite parts too. I remember years ago when I first learned that other "saviors" rode into town on a donkey, and I thought, "Holy Crap! They even ripped off the donkey thing?" So, I had to throw that in.
@misterdeity Best wishes to the both of you. :) It still blows my mind she's a Christian and you're an atheist. I wish the relationships I've had with Christians were better. Things have finally calmed down with the family, as long as we never talk about anything interesting or important. ;)
@asiekdilsa Yes, the organic model made his sacrifice unnecessary. And it's called, "Mr. Deity and the Quitter." It's the last episode of season three.
@BradTroika AFAIK, they were published through a third party belonging to Sony, so they don't have the rights. Season 3 and onwards are self-published it seems.
You are absolutely correct, my friend. The "im" is like our plural "s". BTW, Mormonism is actually Henotheistic. And very few people even know what Henotheism is. I'm impressed.
I'm re-watching everything. I had to re-thumbs-up every single episode because RUclips changed something since I last watched most of these. On the bright side, it inspired me to re-up my subscription. I'm a little better off financially than I was when I unsubbed. Damn economy. The bad part is poor Mr. D has to read all my new comments. :) He's such a great guy, reading all his fans' comments that I ALMOST feel guilty about making new comments. Almost. Bwahahahahahahahaha!
God, watching a new Mr. Deity feels so good! Thank you so much for that. :-) Btw., did you guys remove some of the clips from iTunes? I got in the mood to watch the original Quitter-episode, but it wasn't there anymore. Same for the beginning of the last season, Mr. Deity and the Woman and quite some more. Why are they not available anymore, if I may ask? :-(
@RJLbwb I thought I remembered reading something like that in Exodus. Then some kid ends up in a basket floating down the Nile? Did you hear that one too?
@timw1971 You might have. I thought I caught all of the background problems, but perhaps not. I was playing around quite a bit with color correction, and other things. We have a totally new set-up this season, and I'm still learning how to deal with all the changes. It's very perceptive of you to notice (as much as I hate it, I have to give you some kudos).
@ABarton43 Tom Harpur wrote a book on the subject "The Pagan Christ; Recovering the Lost Light". I am not sure if he specifically says its a borrowed myth but he does acknowledge that Horus a god who predated Jesus by about a millenia, in some of the lines of his story had exactly the same traits as Christ. Like when he was baptized, born of a virgin on dec 25th, death/resurrection etc etc. Its quite compelling. I have also read that this matches many solar deities.
@lessermystery. Well if you could share where you received that information from about Dionysius I would appreciate it, especially as the standard scholary text that surveys the beliefs about Dionysius (Richard Seaford's Dionysos, Routledge 2006), and the Handbook of Greek Mythology, does not record any of this.
@jsamari I generally write for about a week with all the revisions. But the truth is, there's really never a time when I'm not writing (I suspect this is true for most writers -- Amy is less than thrilled with this aspect of my life, btw). I'm always looking for ideas, and then spinning them around in my head forever before I actually sit down and start to write. I wrote Mr. Deity and Death in 1/2 hour because I had worked everything out in my head in the previous two weeks. Can you say, OCD?
@LordJereth We did the problem of evil in our very first episode, Mr. Deity and the Evil. And last season we did stuff on free will, Hell, and all kinds of stuff that fits right in with the kind of thing you're interested in.
@WhimsicalAphorist : Right. That's why I referred to it as a "confusion"... as in maybe people are confusing the two? There are some versions where they say Krishna simply manifested his already existing existence in her womb... others which say she ate a magic fruit to conceive him... whatever. But she'd already had 7 children prior to him, so I find it hard to apply the term "virgin" unless it's used in its classical meaning of simply "virgin" = "young"
@BradTroika Seasons 1 and 2 are co-owned by Sony and we haven't been able to come to terms. I'm hoping to rectify that after season five. Stay tubed. B
@HConstantine When you consider the fact that there are no eyewitness accounts, no third-party historical accounts, that the earliest writings (Paul) never reference someone who lived very recently, that the history and geography are so messed up, and that the gospels fall much more into the category of myth-making rather than historical biography, one doesn't need to be in denial. One simply needs to look at the evidence.
Love 'em! At one point in my life, I had six lawyer friends, none of whom were practicing. They had all left (because they hated it so much) and were doing something else. They had all the best lawyer jokes.
"Gingrich just won South Carolina, oh, I'm sorry. What did you say?" "They're...not ...stupid..." *awkward silence*
LOVE IT!
Absolutely brilliant! If ever there was a perfect synopsis of the dubious claims of religious myths, and the cognitive shortcomings of homo sapiens, this episode of MrDeity is IT.

You guys never were as popular as you deserve to be. Love your skits you're awesome
This episode was a pool of priceless quotables. Great stuff.
Those of us who have critically studied the bible, get this... fantastic video...!!!
I used to feel guilty for not donating. But now that I don't have any money anymore, I have nothing to give, so no guilt... Yay!... :(
These folks are great! Some of the best acting I've seen.
This has to be one of your best ones yet!
Best one in a little while! Love you guys.
Best episode ever. My compliments to the writer(s)
Classic! Especially the last reaction shot from Brian. YOU NAILED IT!
I love what you guys are doing!! Please keep it up!
This is probably my favorite episode so far. I love that you finally worked in the Jungian Archetype Hero reference as well as Josephus and the probable forgery perpetrated by Eusebius. Well done! great episode, just rewatched. well done.
Buahahaha. One of your best Misterdeity! Thx, mate
Never mind my last comment, the Gingritch part was even better! Please make more seasons! I'll buy them all, I swear to god! :)
"Don't be sexist!"
"Don't be s...Are you in any way familiar with my work?"
OMG, I can't stop laughing!
"Myth-informed". I loved it!
Definitely gotta be one of my favorites! GREAT references!
bwahahahaha!! "are you, in any way, familiar with my work?"
hahahahaahah!!!! Love this.
Very funny episode. Myth-informed was my favorite pun. I had to restrain myself from clicking the Like button before watching the episode in its entirety -- premature jocularity.
Wow, you never told me our money would go to better acting, I'm sold!
- thanks for the show.
LMAO. One of the best ones yet! Loved it!
The show was hilarious, but then the begging segment was just tops, too!
Some of the references may be lost on future viewers, but the writing on this episode is brilliant. Amazing work, Brian!
that was the most amazing ending! so glad I watched! very funny!
Great, as usual! Thank You!
Happy birthday Lucy ^^ wouldnt be the same series without you
this has got to be one of the most clever episodes you have ever done.
Julia Sweeney, Chuck Colson, SOPA... so many great references in this episode. LOVED the ending!
ah! the best one yet. great conclusion to this episode.
Great ending. Loved it.
'so they're mythinformed...?' - don't know why, but that just tickled my butt
Always great, Thanks!!
Brilliant! As always!
Hilarious Episode! Great job!
"Don't be sexist."
"Are you in any way familiar with my work?"
Genius!
Wilt Chambermaid!
Oh man, I died laughing. I love Mr. Deity's little throw-away puns, idiot moments, and mispronunciations.
Lucy:"Dont be sexist"
Mr Deity:"Are you aware in any way familiar of my work?"
GOLD :D
LMAO "I hope that wasn't too corny" It sure as hell was but it sure as hillarious for the one little moment! I thought PSYCHO!!!!
Awesome! I loved it!
Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!! Love you too Bri-Bri!!!
Too many awesome parts to mention....but that Gingrich bit at the end almost made me choke on my coffee!
Dang you guys are good! Loved this episode. My order for seasons 3 and 4 arrived a week ago, I'm in heaven. Can I say that?
"Ceasar's mom had more men than Ted Haggard" Boooooom.
Just brilliant...Joseph Campbell would be proud...
I love you guys.
"Are you in any way familiar with my work"? Bahahahahaha!!!
@TheMrTomkennedy That's one of my favorite parts too. I remember years ago when I first learned that other "saviors" rode into town on a donkey, and I thought, "Holy Crap! They even ripped off the donkey thing?" So, I had to throw that in.
@Xoletta And that Mr. Deity, too. Whoohoowoo.
@Marksd99 That's a great line -- "when is a Jesus not a Jesus?" I'm so using that.
@misterdeity I've been committed to you guys for 2 years now. Money and time well spent. :-)
Myth informed! OMG! That is hilarious!
I am stealing that one right now! So sue me.
I enjoyed the "They're not idiots"; "Gingrich won South Carolina" lines more.
zemorph42 Wow, that line was amazing....
@Xoletta And his voice just sends me too. Grrrrrr!
Loved the ending.
@BradTroika AFAIK, they were published through a third party belonging to Sony, so they don't have the rights. Season 3 and onwards are self-published it seems.
LOL at the Newt ad on the side!
That part was good until I saw the ad, then LOL.

Well, that is the test, isn't it? If you watch it a year later, and it still works for you, I could that as me doing something right. Thanks!
@RJLbwb I thought I remembered reading something like that in Exodus. Then some kid ends up in a basket floating down the Nile? Did you hear that one too?
I miss season two, too, to my chagrin.
@weelittledragon Amen! And I thought his vision for America -- as laid out in last night's State of the Union was spot on.
@ABarton43 Tom Harpur wrote a book on the subject "The Pagan Christ; Recovering the Lost Light". LMAO "Don't be s - are you in any way familiar with my work?"
I really enjoy Mr Deity :D
@BillKiernan That's because your brake lights worked perfectly.
Best begging outro ever.
@lessermystery. I love how Lucy was proven wrong in her "not idiots hypothesis" :)

@misterdeity Uhm ... yes.
Let me guess, there are some issues with the german podcast directory on iTunes? :-(
@w00td00t Ha!!! That was very clever and funny! You made me LOL!!!
the ending was on point.
more Words, please!
@BradTroika Seasons 1 and 2 are co-owned by Sony and we haven't been able to come to terms. I'm hoping to rectify that after season five. Stay tubed. B
@lessermystery What's the question? And did you read my post regarding the previous thread?
Have you done a sketch about how those iron chariots foiled you?
@Slugsie1 To disable sticky keys, go the the ease of access center in the control panel.
I love when a video's comment thread is nothing but replies.
The only bad thing here is the show ends too soon, you see the bar and think u can enjoy it for a lot longer!
nice and fresh!
Lol Ceaser's mom had more men than Ted Haggard
6:09 ...that's the same sound I use for my text alert on my Droid!! Ass, made me check my phone >.
Love it.
Mr. Deity, eliminate the Department of Homeland Security. Just do it
@lessermystery Not that I know of. But I'd love to. How do I find it?

@themanofearth Happy Anniversary.
