"I'm a magician, I only deal in illusions-- but you're a God, you can move straight on to DECEPTION!" Classic! You are not only good with the scripts/bits, but also the characterizations as well!
Thanks for the invite. I decided years ago to never again be a part of any group that needed an entire field of apologetics to explain away their various messes. It's been very liberating. Only religion requires such endeavors. No other field says, "this must be true and I'm sticking to it come hell or high water." People in other fields are confronted with new and overwhelming evidence, and just abandon their old positions to embrace new truths.
I realize this is 9 years late, but I've seen this argument a number of times and something occurred to me - there _are_ occurrences of other fields with apologetics. I believe it is generally referred to as "Marketing". Of course, those are apologetics for the Sales branch, which is basically just religion itself, so I guess the point is moot.
@littleyellowkite, in addition to misterdeity's excellent reply to you, I'd just like to say that if we really believed in God, as you think we do, AND mock Him, as you say, then we are far from the cowards you accuse us of being. On the contrary, we'd have to be the bravest people on Earth to believe in God AND mock Him.
Mr. deity I love your channel . I discovered it when I was doing Philosophy last semester.. Im a Catholic and never have felt insulted watching you.i love seeing your portrayals they're smart, witty and stimulates thinking keep it up!!!
Gawd, you are funny. Thanks for the needed laughs. When one is surrounded by so many delusional theists every day, this is so refreshing and so welcomed.
@@misterdeity See you got a better record of prophesizing......then those who believe in their fake skydaddies. ...You should do one on old Ron DeSantis,,,After that crazy quasi religious commercial he put out.Seems like he's trying to sway the evangelical vote by trying looking like a Messiah....Either way keep up the great work your videos are entertaining and informative Praise Hitch lol
@Sephern What loading thing? If you mean the bandwidth freeze, I put that in because there's a camera flash that goes off during it. I think that's my favorite thing in this entire video.
"When you think about the processes of nature that go into creating a real blade of grass, I mean, who gives a damn" So freakin awesome. Who is this guy, I luv this guy, I luv whoever wrote that line!!
@CaptainChaos Dude, you gotta turn that subwoofer down. We watch them here at the house through the Apple TV and we have 5.1, but it doesn't make the house rattle. I do add that intentionally. It's like the sound of the warp drives on STNG.
Lovely. Funny times 3 (or more). Welcome back from your travels, Brian. I'm going to watch this several more times, so your viewing stats might be askew. Sorry in advance.
@stitch99 This is why Season 4 has been hard on people -- you have to watch everything in order. Not really very Deity, which is why we'll be going back to the old non-linear format for season five. See Mr. Deity and the Ghost (the end in particular).
@ThinkFree2011 Oh boy! That's a brilliant idea for an episode. I don't know why in all the years I've been thinking about God and religion, I've never thought of that. What a great freakin' point!!!
I do restorations of extinct animals. You've saved me an enormous amount of time. Instead of looking at various photos of skeletons and restorations of my subjects, I can just print out a few photos of Gary Busey. Watch out, world! Here comes the Gary Busey Velociraptor!
@Longbow177 We've had a number of logistical problems getting the latest episode shot, but it's happening today and should be up sometime Sunday, June 12, 2011. Sorry for the delay.
No, you have not answered the question. Next: Duet 22:9 Do you think planting two kinds of seed together defiles the crop? Is that an example of a "perfect law"?
@mazrimtaim10 I'm sure Jamy could figure out how to do it. If you've seen his act, you'd know that even the most inconceivable tricks somehow fall under his domain. He is truly one of the most gifted magicians/mentalists I've ever seen.
@CtheWolfe Problem with your analogy... If I walk a mile that would fall under testable, repeatable, and falsifiable phenomena. Now in the case of macro evolution testable = nope! repeatable = nope! falsifiable = nope! Did I clear that up for you any?
It's helpful to note that Adam Smith (author of "The Wealth of Nations" in the 18th century, the foundational book of capitalism) did indeed cite an "invisible hand" as the guide to which capitalist economies allocated resources - though it was just a metaphor, a symbol for the collective impact of decisions made by entrepreneurs, managers, and consumers.
@DeGoile Many, many times. With the exceptions of Shadows and Fog, and some of his more recent outings. But there was a time -- from Annie Hall to Crimes and Misdemeanors when he could do no wrong. I'd say about 12 truly amazing films.
@cctman When I was super religious, I was familiar with all the guys who were working for my team. As I came to better understand the nature of science/evidence, and how to properly evaluate it, I became less impressed with the work of those motivated by their faith. But that WAS 20 years ago, and I have not kept up. So I'm completely open to hearing your evidence for Hebrews being enslaved en masse in Egypt, the Exodus, and the conquest of Canaan. Please direct me. Thanks!
Another gem of an episode, and follow-up segment. The teeth jibe always bothered me. Never having noticed a grimness in my fellow Brit dentistry. Yet, one famously bad teethed bloke springs to mind the other side of the pond. Wooden teeth. I think he's on US money.... so ner :p
Had a little time to look this up in the last week. Have you read up on the findings that propose the Exodus at approx.1450 B.C. at the end of the Old Kingdom. This fits quite nicely with the disappearance of Pepi II's son whom ironically has never been found or the The Ipuwer Papyrus which talks of records the plagues and devastation. All which correlated quite nicely with the Biblical timeline. Have you read any of Barbara Mertz's, Alan Gardiner or Velikovsky's books on this matter?
@CtheWolfe Oh your right... Now since I'm so incorrect about the definition of evolution and improperly broadening the scope of evolution outside biology, would you mind showing me how biological evolution encapsulates evolution within cosmology, chemistry and astronomy? ...I will be patiently standing by!
@misterdeity Lol, it really tripped me up because I had the video full screen and I thought it had finished loading. I got to tell ya, whenever this show pops up in my subscriptions or on my iTunes, it really brightens my day. :)
@misterdeity You know its interesting that you challenged the Bible's archeological support. I have had a book on eivdences for the Bible for some time and I remember reading up on some of these. I'm curious what is your take on The Merneptah Stela, Execration Texts, The Hyksos, and the Expulsion of the Hyksos? All of which we have archeological support for.
I think he got a reality check... and it bounced. He was confronted with things he said he believed, but didn't know he was saying he believed. Hasn't been heard from since.
Biology and biochemistry are the fundamental stepping stones to larger more advanced fields of science like Neuroscience and the the entire medical field. You might want to read up on Dr Benjamin Carson who is a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. By the way he is a creationist and one the most intelligent scientists in the world today.
@JusBenLawyered I will take a look at the video you posted later tonight... Thanks! By the way... " Just because you refuse to look at the evidence does not mean it isnt there" ...What evidence am I refusing to look at exactly?
So, this background noise, do you add that intentionally? The things is that it has a lot of low notes and it's making my subwoofer rumble annoyingly throughout the video, and I imagine it must do so for many people with 5.1 sets attached to their PC's. Just wanted to point that out, perhaps there is something you can do about it (pass it through a high pass filter first or something like that?) Anyway, great video, as always. I really enjoy these. Haven't donated yet, but I definitely will!
@Avicaris The funny thing is... When I usually go down this line of arguments when someone challenges my knowledge on the various evolutionary topics it usually goes something like this. Dialog on archaeology, biology, chemistry, mathematics, speciation, mutations, church history, scientific fathers... I seem to dialog quite well. But when I ask about my creation topics all I get back in reply is "haven't seen that video, haven't read that... not peer reviewed." So who is not educated here?
@misterdeity My subwoofer is set perfectly for listening to music or watching movies. It's not turned up abnormally high. Is it possible that your subwoofer isn't actually engaged when you watch the videos on your Apple TV, because it only plays the LFE channel? Anyway, sorry to harp on about it. It's just that it's so prominent that it's interfering with my enjoyment of your otherwise extremely excellent videos...
You have to understand... From my perspective and many others that believe the consistency's of the Bible. We have a large football field to play on. So I'm quite involved and not as much as I would like to be in cleaning up many areas of science and getting people to understand their assumptions and presuppositions they carry with them. On a side note we are doing a 3 month study on apologetics and creationism at our local church. We have been working hard. Your welcome to attend.
@sinprelic ...actually technically speaking... If you have two fossils there would be exactly one gap between them of a known length. And if you had five fossils there would be exactly 4 gaps total between them. Problem?

Yes. It was a poke a Penn (who is a fan of this show and a friend of Jamy's -- the magician in the episode).
