My Orange OR15 is an absolute doom machine of an amp. I would highly recommend it. Sounds amazing at bedroom volumes but can also get shockingly loud for a 15w.
Always good stuff. My rig for Doom Metal has been Schecter Stealth C-1 -> Super Siberian Fuzz -> New Wave Chorus -> Ahm Bee Aunce Reverb/Delay -> Joyo Zombie -> Harley Benton 2x12 (v30's). I does what I need. The Fuzz is a Russian style Big Muff (EQ'ed for down tuning), but I added a gate circuit, a clean blend circuit, and gave it a mids control. That way, I can make it into a more Hyper Fuzz sound if I want to, or make it a Big Muff sound if I want to as well. As always, keep up the good stuff!
Are you happy with the Harley Benton 212 cab? My brother is lending me his Marshall DSL50 and I need a cab. I've been looking at the Orange pcp112, but the price of the HB's is attractive.
@matthewbeckwith663 Make sure you get the vertical hb 2x12 loaded with V30s, they have a cheaper one that isn't. Or get the EHX 2x12, it pairs very nicely with the Mig 50.

Got a Korean twin neck 1275 Epiphone in about 2006. It’s absolutely perfect for doom. I didn’t switch out the pickups as I don’t really like modern humbuckers for doom. The lower output does me fine.

I even do death metal with a REVV G3) Used to have an Orange TH30 but i sold it to pay for the RV and i wish id just saved up because that TH30 was a beast Guitars: New Dunable Yeti DE (swamp ash black) in drop C, LTD Eclipse in A standard with Bareknuckle Warpigs (an absolute beast, does the YOB thing really well) and an Epiphone Les Paul Tribute (going in D standard today to learn some Mastodon)
Excellent setup. How do you like those warpigs? I've been wanting to try bareknuckle for years. Been dying to try a dunable as well. Everyone seems to love them.
I love the Epiphone SG's and use one along with an LTD Viper for our doom metal band. They hold tune well but I upgrade the bridge to a roller style and add locking tuners. After that the guitar is solid. Another mod, and one I highly recommend, is installing a Pure Tone multi-point contack output jack. It has two contact points for the tip and two contact points on the sleeve. The cable locks in so much better. My holy grail amp is the Thunderverb 200.
Can't help but think spending $4.2K for a Sunn or $3.5K for a Hiwatt would lead to buyer's remorse. Cool amps but unless you are a thoracic surgeon by day and doom metal aficionado by night, that is a chunk of change. Your doom metal dollar would go further with a decent solid-state amp and quality pedal (like Fuzzlord) and kickass speakers like K100s in a decent birch cabinet like Orange or Emperor.
Before I weould even CONSIDER buying a "vintage" tube amp or any solid state amp, I would consider a clone kit, or a "custom" builder to copy an old (or new) tube amp... for under $1000 you CAN buy magic! Also, as far as DOOM guitars go, my favorite (so far) is actually a Clapton signature Strat. Lace Sensors and the 25dB boost with the 25.5" scale weaponize upper harmonics in a way that SLAYS "the usual" Les Pauls and SGs.

I’m kind new to the world of Doom Metal when it come to gear. This is what I use so far. I play an 04 Dean Select V with EMG’s tuned at 432 Hz to C Standard using 11-54 strings > a Boss TU2 > Boss MT-2 > a Rocktron Multiverb for the Hush, Compression and EQ > Crate SPA200 power amp > a Hartke GH412 straight cab. Back in the 90’s I has kinda dense when it came to Sunn amps. I had just bought a Marshall JCM800 2203 100w head and then seen a 70’s or 80’s Sunn Colosseum head (I believe) for sale and the guy only wanted 150.00. I should have bought it. Lol
My buddy had a black les paul studio from the 90s that I could not put down. It seemed to have a very thin coat of paint because you can see the outline of the wood grain (not stain, more like nitro). I also remember it being flat in the front like a LP junior. We ran it through a Fulltone OCD into my 1981 JCM 800 2203 tuned down to A standard. Maybe I just built it up in my head over the years, but I remember it being the most glorious tone I have ever experienced. Both feel and sound. Honorable mention: I also ran my JCM 800 through the cab of a 1969 twin reverb with JBL d120f speakers. That too was glorious.
I love my Epiphone SG. Installed the Widdershin x Fuzzlord Lych Bells on it and it's my B standard guitar. All Wizard. All the time. Some of my favorite pedals; Fuzzlord FU-2, RAT, Big Muff in to my 100w AOR
SG -> Hiwatt DR505 into a 2x12 loaded with an EVM12L and an EVM12S. Masochist -> Baghdad -> Tech21 English Muffy -> Boss RE-202. Orange amp detonator aby -> Orange Rocker 30 (V30 loaded) combo on top of an Orange 2x12 loaded with a Celestion G12H100 and a G12M70!
I’ve dragged an old tall-font Green Russian Big Muff around the world with me ever since I bought it new back in the early ‘90s. It does sound great, but those’d mids are indeed pretty scooped. 😅 I boost it with an old Boss GE-7 (because that’s what I had back in the day, and I still do it like this) set to peak around 1.6 kHz, which seems to help in that department. 👍
Sick! Unlikeliest gruesome doom tone that I’ve achieved is a Gibson SG>JHS Supreme>Science Mother preamp pedal> low input of a Marshall JCM800 with matching cab.
Dude I used one of those barefoot sg tribute/faded guitars… f’n love it and I don’t get that nasty nitro shyt. It fades off so damn easy. If you want a cool color and have t stick around… get a poly finish…
Currently I've been liking the sound of the Lizard Queen. I keep the Lizard Queen in a noise gate loop, and have a Tumnus in front of that. I like the tone/sustain of the Tumnus, and since the Lizard Queen is so heavily gated, this set up basically lets me get some sustain with the Lizard Queen and clean up any unwanted noise. I play into a Bassman 59 reissue, didn't know Sunn T was based of this amp, so that's cool to know.
As much as it pains me to say it, my current favorite doom metal pedal is a stock Boss DS-1, and I say this after using several very expensive boutique fuzz pedals. Dime the volume, dime the gain, run it into a crunchy amp and it sounds great.
Boss does make some break pedals, Chuck Schuldiner used a ds1 on the first two Death albums. Also, what’s your tone set to, I know the ds1 is a very bright pedal.
@@PhillipGolden-t3o put something like a rangemaster boost in front of it that has an adjustable range sweep and set it so that it's shaping the bass/mids
If anyone’s looking for a cheap clone of the univox super fuzz, I would check out the Behringer super fuzz. If you want to see it in action check out the NirvanaGuitars channel for the video about the Fecal Matter guitar tone. Not a doom context but a great video showing what the pedal can do and even a secret mode.
I have a pile of Rangemaster style pedals( Riff Master OC44, R2R 2 knob OC44, Mythos Cestus, Naga Viper. Love any of these into Laney 100 AOR, and or Bluguitar Iridium. Into green back cab. It’s Master of Reality tone easily.
My Doom Metal Rig: Schecter Flying V (in B standard)> TS+Rat+BigMuff > Orange SuperCrush 100 > 2x12 with two 75 watt Vintage Purples (Clone of Fane speakers AKA Highwatt). Sounds wicked.
For all those looking for a Model T, have a look at 378 Amps. They're gorgeous, faithful recreations, and while they're not exactly cheap they're still more affordable than the OGs from the 70s. I wouldn't hold out for the relaunched Sunn brand to do a proper reissue. On the off-chance they do, it'll probably cost like 5k. I got one of the 378s and it's an incredible amp.
I run a Dunable Yeti into a Fuzzlord Drone Master, into a Pharaoh Supreme, and I boost this with a Diamond Eq pedal for leads. I currently am running it into a traynor ycs-100 (I got this head for like 250 CAD which is why I'm using it, super cheap!), which is a more modern traynor that actually sounds pretty good in a practice space, not sure if it will go loud enough for a live show. I was using a Sunn Beta Lead, which sounds great too, super loud and can cut extremely well. However, the effects loop stopped working, the main one, and the one on each channel, and I'm not sure why. I really need the effects loop to boost leads, so I'm not using it anymore. I have yet to look into why it stopped working.
Current doom setup is honestly mostly diy. Guitar > diy mixer/splitter Splitter 1 is an HM2 Splitter 2 is a DIY acapulco gold with a big muff tone stack. Blended back into the splitter mixer into an orange rocker 15 terror drive channel.
Yes! I have a white Epiphone '61 Les Paul shaped like an SG and it's my go-to out of 2 Gibson SGs. I DID have it Plek's/Klusons. Also have the Mig-50, and a Green BM with the wood box I bought NEW cuz I'm olde, but I play HEAVY through my Ampeg BA210 bass practice amp. Sounds funny but I was stuck with it as my 6guitar amp and made it work. I would think Doom guitar would sound good and HUGE through and SVT. My 2nd favorite Muff is the Swollen Pickle. I can dial back the scoop and crunch for KILLER Doomstyle. Fuzz War is good. I need to try one of your pedals!
honestly, i hear a bigger tone difference in the comparison between the wooden neck and the aluminium neck than i do with the whole "tone wood" comparisons
I use an OKKO Black Beast. It has a circuit combining an OD with a Fuzz and is incredibly bass heavy. I also have several classic type Fuzz pedals covering, a Tonebender, and a couple of Octave Fuzz and a Muff. I stack them with OD pedals. I have the good ol' reliable Rat II. I also use 3 graphic EQ pedals. I have 3 boards with 68 pedals all linked into a pedal switcher. Each board is complete on its own. I use all 3 in just one tune like someone needing 3 sounds in a tune would do the same but with 3 pedals. All boards have their own Boost, EQ, Compressor Delay and Reverb. I think of them as my clean low gain board, Crunch board and high gain Metal board.
I'm a fan of double boosting orange amps with an overdrive and a TC Electronic Eyemsater, or an overdrive and a turbo rat. Sometimes I'll stack all three into the clean channel. Works best using a guitar with P90 or filtertron pickups - or better yet, a GFS Dream 180, because it sounds like both at the same time. In all irony, the same exact pedal setups work for bass, as long as you run a parallel clean DI, and keep the gain on every pedal as low as possible to still get some character.
I'm going for a REZN/Jack Harlon & The Dead Crows/Yob/Elder sound palatte with this rig: Schecter S-1 Elite with a SD Rails 90 in the neck and SD Dimebucker in the bridge. Tone set to 3, and pickup volume at 9 an 8 respectively. Outlaw Effects Widowmaker>Belle Epoch>Caline Snakebite>Pigtronix Star Eater> Super Crush 100 combo amp>7 band EQ>Pigtronix Ecolution 2>EQD Underneath. The Echolution gives lfo chorus, resoflanger, and a ton more.
I use a Woodbine Custom playing through a Orange MKlll. Pedalboard has Dime Bag darrell Wahwah pedal into a Boss tuner, Revv G8 noise gate,Fuzzlord Doom Screamer, D.I.D Baghdad, Big Muff Ramhead, Boss Chorus, D.I.D Doomcaster.
Cherry faded/tribute sg muff rat and a peavey red stripe bandit I converted into a head and plug into a 4x12 I loaded two eminence swamp thangs and two Texas heats into… the cab I completely built myself and I’m never letting go off but I’d like to get a tube head instead even old peaveys are pretty killer…
I scored a Traynor ts-25b. It needs a recap but sounds sooooo good!!!! 25 watts but can run with a band no problem! I love my Gibson V that I threw a Kahler into myself. As well as my epiphone Jeff waters flying V. For pedals I actually love my 90s Digitech rp-3 and rp-5. Digitech makes solid stuff!
Sound city 120 with a rat in front (one day I'll get my hands on a boss hyper fuzz to recreate electric wizard tones), laney aor series 2 100w boosted with a boss ds 1, orange thunderverb 200. Korean Epiphone les Paul custom.
I have a rockerverb mk2 with KT88 tubes that I bought from a local doom/stoner rock band (mage). It definitely can doom, needs lots of power amp saturation to really get goin, if you have master down too low on the gain channel it just sounds thin. It does that matt pike almost didgeridoo type sustain with lots of gain and a boost in front. With the sweet spot and a bit of guitar volume/EQ I can go anywhere from QOTSA, Kyuss and high on fire. Only thing is it is a little one trick, you wont be getting a super tight classic metal sound like you would from a 5150, at least I haven't had any luck. Overall great amp, you should try one out if you get the chance.
I love Sunn amplifiers in country wester Ibanez RG 220 Boss compressor sustainer (with Big Ben mod), Acapulco Gold, Danelectro Fab Distortion(true by bass mod), expression factory, echo Park x2 into a summit audio TPA 200A to front of house
I like the Epiphone SG Classic Worn P90 in Inverness Green. But I am not a fan of P90's, wish it had humbuckers. I would like to get one of the new Sunn Doombox 4x12 cabs that are a 1,000 watts. As for pedals it's Fuzzlord and Does it Doom all the way.
What about p90s in the context of doom are you not digging? I name the cheapo Epi SG and I've been considering adding a guitar loaded with p90s for something else.
Alnico 2 8-9k output sg>sf300>american tube clean channel = come my fanatics/dopethrone. I use rat and metalzone for other types of doom except Electric Wizard. And im happy with that setup. Plus with a small reverb
Black Arts Toneworks Black Forest into a Green Russian Big Muff has been my go-to sound for Doom, but swap out that Black Forest for a Foxy Tone Box into the Big Muff and you get a massive drone tone. Actually have a short clip of the latter on my page of how that sounds.
Shocked you skipped over the Matamp GT120! I just got mine the other day and it is absolutely killer. I run my epiphone les paul through an sf-300, black arts toneworks crown of horns and earthquaker hizumitas to slam the matamp from edge of breakup into the fattest and most indiscernible fuzz tone of all time! This is also the first time my SF-300 has sounded incredible, the sheer amount of bass from the Matamp elevates it beyond.
YES!!! Fav axe, amp, pedal - Any decent SG (or LP, but I prefer SGs) style guitar > almost any Marshall with classic (800 style) gain (dsl included) > and pretty much any RAT style pedal. You can go cheap or boutique, but that's my preference regardless of budget, that's what gets the job done for me. Early Melvins is the type of tone I usually for, and the above gear just gets the job done / gets me in roughly that general ballpark. Obviously a JCM 800, LM308 RAT and Gibson would be the big pimpin set up for life but it can be done well enough with more modest alternatives.
I have a technical question... Can you run a 40w 6ohm head though a 100w 4ohm cabinet or am i gonna blow something? New amp for Christmas but only got the one 4ohm cab....
From all amps I've seen in doom metal (ofc I'd like to have any of them, but) I want some randall 100es, sunn beta lead, orange crush 100 or whatever and matamp gt120. GT120 sounds so thiccc... For pedals I want hm2, fz5 or fz2 and blues driver :) Blues driver plus any of those amps is incredible sound, watch Ola Englund. The guitar I want maybe some SG or LP too. But for now, I'm starting with orange crush 20 and ibanez grg 131. I think it's great start.
I make my own guitars. I have a THD Univalve I use for almost everything. I have an Earth Sound Research G2000 as well (Dual Showman ab763 clone). I love pedals but the only one I wouldn’t to live without is a Make Sounds Loudly NG3, extremely versatile but gets nasty af.
In the context of doom metal, here are my specs. For guitar, a black Ibanez XH300 is my choice. It's fixed bridge guitar with a 25.5 scale length, nice for using a light string gauge at a lower tuning. I have mine tuned to C, with 11's, and the strings don't flap around. For an amp with no pedals, Orange is the way to go. I wish I could find an affordable Matamp or Sunn Beta Lead. If I'm using a pedal for gain, then I go with a DOD Carcosa (the most obscene amount of gain for fuzz - not distortion) into a Roland JC-120. This combination gives crystal clean cleans and when you kick in the Carcosa, you can get anything from a mild overdrive to a dimed fuzzface into a dimed Marshall with ripped speakers.
My Doom Rig: Dunable R2 in B or my Gibson Olive Drab V in C > Noise Gate > 6b EQ > Boss OD > Fuzzlord M4 pushing a 100w Marshall DSL (clean chan) into a 4x12 cab with a combo of Celestian Hempbacks and EVH's in an X pattern. That set up has almost gotten me divorced a couple of times.
Question for you, or anybody who might have some tips or pointers: I have an Epiphone SG Custom, all black paint job with two humbuckers, tuned to C standard. I have been thinking about putting some different pickups in it (it's an older model that I got for free from my brother, who also got it for free from a lawn sale) and had been looking at the Seymour Duncan Black Winter pickups. I have heard good things and like the look, do you think it would be worth it, or is there something better I could put in that is around the same price point?
My other option is my friend has a Fender Telecaster from the late 1980s that he is willing to sell to me for $400 (a real steal, apparently), and I love that guitar and the way it plays. At that price, I could get the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickups so I wouldn't need to alter the body at all to install them, but I'm not sure about going that route either. I don't just try to play and write doom, so I need a bit of versatility
Curveball: Fender Rumble 500 2x10 combo Favourite fuzz Turn it up Honestly cheap bass amps for Doom are criminally slept on and they require your immediate investigation.
I tend to use a cheap ass Les Paul gold top copy with p90’s, into frost giant Soma, then into a laney aor 50 with a 4 speaker cab. It totally destroys!
For the last 10 years or so I've sworn by the H|H IC100 as my amp of choice. Kind of the UK's answer to the Beta Lead, but way, way cheaper (here at least). The built-in sustain is like a hairy overdrive that takes fuzz pedals stupidly well. I run two of them. Speaker selection is super important too (I run a mixture. I'm liking a combination of Peavey Sheffields and Black Widow 1502 and 1505 right now). Guitars wise, anything with P90s for me, currently playing 28" and 30" baritones for super low tunings. Pedals? There are too many. My desert island pedal is and will always be a rat, but I'm finding the Woolly Mammoth a lot of fun right now. Did a crappy demo of a pedal the other day which shows me dooming all of these: ruclips.net/video/MlfvKalGhog/видео.htmlsi=k1hdnEUHkRabgxPZ
My budget home rig: - Epiphone SG Classic Worn Green (with very decent P90s) - Orange Micro Dark - Orange PPC112 - Behringer CS400 > EHX Bass Big Muff Pi (works great for guitar) > Behringer SF300 > Boss ML-2 Metal Core > Behringer TO800 > Behringer EQ700 > Flamma FS02 Reverb It's not much but it's mine and I love it, nails pretty much everything from Electric Wizard to Down tones 👌
Doom Rig as follows: PRS guitars; Custom 24's, 6 string down tuned to drop A or B standard and 7 string down tuned to drop F. Amp heads are Orange Crush Pro 120 and Orange Micro Dark. The CP120 may be a solid state, but acts like a tube, it sounds so sweet in clean mode, and it takes any pedal like a champ. The M.D. I mainly use for recording. Pedals include a Fuzzlord Octave Booster, Doom Screamer, FU-2, Drone Master, Void Master, & Dark Master. Does It Doom Hypercoven & Elder God. Also Black Art Toneworks Crown of Horns and Quantum Mystic. EQD Hizumitas. I like preamp pedals to get different tones; the Kuro T120 to mimic the Matamp GT120, Kuro Exegol to mimic the Sunn Model T, and the Frost Giant AoR to mimic the Laney AoR. Then throw in a phaser, a flanger, & Crybaby Wah. I have more pedals, I'm addicted to pedals. It all depends on what I'm playing whether its straight up Doom, Stoner Doom, Sludge, or Stoner to the pedal layout I use.

Lol

OSEES MENTIONED. Fuck yeah. Instantly subbed .
Just saw them live for the first time after collecting their albums for the last 10 years, amazing band and performance 🔥
Can confirm Peavey T60 + Green Russian gets the job done \m/
Sounds like it was a les pail special with humbuckers

Acrylic/Aluminum guitars for the win!
So cool you have one!
I run a boss OS-2 into an orange super crush for that Early The Sword tone
Boss does make some break pedals, Chuck Schuldiner used a ds1 on the first two Death albums. Also, what’s your tone set to, I know the ds1 is a very bright pedal.
@@PhillipGolden-t3o put something like a rangemaster boost in front of it that has an adjustable range sweep and set it so that it's shaping the bass/mids
Univox SuperFuzz pedal paired with a Gibson Firebrand 335s. . .lovely.

Hey Fuzzlord! Any chance you’ll do a video on changing guitar pickups?
My Doom Metal Rig: Schecter Flying V (in B standard)> TS+Rat+BigMuff > Orange SuperCrush 100 > 2x12 with two 75 watt Vintage Purples (Clone of Fane speakers AKA Highwatt). Sounds wicked.
Sweet speakers!!!
Thanks for grabbing a Drone Master!
@@FuzzlordEffects Thank you for the great pedal! It sounds great as a low gain drive, or a massive distortion/fuzz. It never leaves my board!
Current doom setup is honestly mostly diy. Guitar > diy mixer/splitter
Splitter 1 is an HM2
Splitter 2 is a DIY acapulco gold with a big muff tone stack.
It’s the best tone wood :)
I'm going for a REZN/Jack Harlon & The Dead Crows/Yob/Elder sound palatte with this rig:
Schecter S-1 Elite with a SD Rails 90 in the neck and SD Dimebucker in the bridge. Tone set to 3, and pickup volume at 9 an 8 respectively. Outlaw Effects Widowmaker>Belle Epoch>Caline Snakebite>Pigtronix Star Eater> Super Crush 100 combo amp>7 band EQ>Pigtronix Ecolution 2>EQD Underneath.
The Echolution gives lfo chorus, resoflanger, and a ton more.
I use a Woodbine Custom playing through a Orange MKlll. Pedalboard has Dime Bag darrell Wahwah pedal into a Boss tuner, Revv G8 noise gate,Fuzzlord Doom Screamer, D.I.D Baghdad, Big Muff Ramhead, Boss Chorus, D.I.D Doomcaster.
Nice setup!
They make such great amps!
@@FuzzlordEffects they definitely scratch that fuzzy itch nicely!!
Sound city 120 with a rat in front (one day I'll get my hands on a boss hyper fuzz to recreate electric wizard tones), laney aor series 2 100w boosted with a boss ds 1, orange thunderverb 200. Korean Epiphone les Paul custom.
That’s such a good combo!
I love Sunn amplifiers in country wester
Ibanez RG 220 Boss compressor sustainer (with Big Ben mod), Acapulco Gold, Danelectro Fab Distortion(true by bass mod), expression factory, echo Park x2 into a summit audio TPA 200A to front of house

Fet120 and and a clone of the old Honey fuzz wah is all I need

Black Arts Toneworks Black Forest into a Green Russian Big Muff has been my go-to sound for Doom, but swap out that Black Forest for a Foxy Tone Box into the Big Muff and you get a massive drone tone. Actually have a short clip of the latter on my page of how that sounds.
The Black Forest is such a great pedal.
I’ll have to check that out!
"Cash for gold" on a T-shirt 😂😂😂
Great singer 🔊
420 Fuzz from Fuzzrocious. It’s big and nasty. Ryan makes good stuff.
A good doom “amp” is sunn alpha pa4 (or 6 or 8) with the dod240 or similar) into all channels at max gain and max reverb(for craziness) 😂
Don't sleep on the mesa Fillmore, another bassman type head that takes pedals like a champ!
Matamp GT1? Or Green?

Personally I switched the output jacks on all my guitars to a “puretone” with multi contacts. Your cable will likely never pull out of that jack.
there you have it: tonewood doesnt make a difference, aluminum does.
I tend to use a cheap ass Les Paul gold top copy with p90’s, into frost giant Soma, then into a laney aor 50 with a 4 speaker cab. It totally destroys!
Great amp!
Boss superfuzz or Behringer sf300 combined with anything else.
I’d prefer Laney over Orange any day.
Did a crappy demo of a pedal the other day which shows me dooming all of these:
