I had the YF vaccine for travel to India in 2013 and 6 weeks later, I started experiencing neurological symptoms and was subsequently diagnosed with transverse myelitis which was considered a CIS. IV Steroids knocked all the symptoms on the head and I got back to roughly 90%. 3 years later I started getting very similar symptoms and was diagnosed with RRMS (brain stem relapse) and put on Tysabri. Within 3 years, I transitioned to SPMS. I now suspect I already had undiagnosed MS for roughly 20 years prior to the vaccine so whether it triggered MS or caused a major relapse is unknown but whatever the answer, I certainly don't think the vaccine helped.
Hello Dr. Beaber, I found your channel shortly after I was diagnosed with MS a few years ago. It has been tremendously helpful. Thank you for all your work. My question today is a little unusual. Keeping backyard chickens has really grown in popularity in suburban communities. My children would absolutely love chickens. I know there are risks for people who are immunosuppressed (I’m on Ocravus) but I’m not sure how big of a risk it is. As chicken keeping has really boomed since the pandemic, I know many people are interested in the topic and have begun or are evaluating keeping backyard chickens. I’d love for you to make a video walking us through how big the risks factors are for keeping backyard chickens when on immunosuppressives and if is there any risks of flare ups from bacteria that are commonly carried by chickens. (Or, would there even be any potential health benefits for MS patients from keeping backyard chickens?) Your videos are always so informative. Thanks again for what you do!
I'm interested too ! I will start the kesimpta treatment as a first DMT, and I have too decide soon if I will do the Yellow fever vaccine before my treatment. However the first study of 2011 makes me hesitated :(. What do you think about that Dr Boster ?
@@PurpleBacon5 I decided not to do the yellow fever vaccine because my first attack was just 3 days after another vaccine (hépatite A and Tiphoïde). So I decide not too take another risk but Its very personal. My neurologist allowed me to do this yellow vaccine before starting the treatment. I've just decided not to do it.
I had a health collapse in my mid twenties after recieving three vaccines at once in a travel health clinic in the UK that I needed to get a visa to go to Brazil. They were yellow fever, cholera and typhoid
I'm traveling to Rio de Janeiro next June My neuro made an authorization for me to not get the vaccine because in my country it's mandatory if you travel to countries where YF is endemic. The city of Rio has no cases although the state of Rio in the rural areas does. I'm traveling in winter to the city when and where cases are almost none. What do you think? This is concerning :( I'll try to get in contact with the Ministry of Health of Brazil to see how the situation is when the date approaches but definitely live atenuated vaccine should be the norm or we shouldn't have so many doubts about this
Hello Dr Beaber. I am hopeful you're still replying to these comments🙏 I'm a healthy 35 YO with no autoimmune disease background. Generally I'd like to avoid unnecessary vaccines, even for the mere chance of jeopardizing my health. I'm now facing a dilemma of whether to take the YF Vaccine, for crossing between Kenya and Tanzania, or not. What do you think i should consider before making up my mind (taking it or getting a different flight to a country where i wont be required to present a prove of vaccination)? Thank you🙏🏼
This video is specifically for people with multiple sclerosis. In general, the risk of the yellow fever vaccine is low. According to the CDC, Yellow Fever Vaccine-Associated Viscerotropic Disease has an incidence of 0.3 cases per 100,000 doses of vaccine administered. For yellow fever vaccine associated neurological disease, the risk is estimated to be between 0.25 and 0.8 per 100,000 doses. Source: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6536176/
I did an internship with the CDC when I was 24, prediagnosis but having had 2 relapses prior as a teenager (I was too young to have MS back then). The only reaction I got to the vaccine was an injection site reaction as I'm apparently allergic to eggs.
No. It seems like this doctor chose not to answer me for whatever reason. But I decided not to take it. I don’t want to take any chances. If it can affect MS, then in my mind, it can affect Fibro.
I have lived in Brazil for over 20 years and I've never heard of anyone having yellow fever. You've have to be very, very unlucky to get it. Don't let fear stop you from living your life. I had to get the vaccine to come here and then no one has ever said anything about it ever. My ten years was up over tem years ago. I have lived in cities in Brazil not the jungle. People have very funny ideas about travelling to Brazil.
Ugh! I have to get the YF vaccine for work. My body is super sensitive to anything, im so scared to get the vaccine. I just got over long covid, i have histamine intolerances. Im so hoping this vaccine doesnt put me in a relapse of some sorts. I also suspect i may have MS but no one will listen too me
How was it? I need to take this jab where I'm going for a holiday but I'm willing to cancel the whole holiday just because of this jab. I'm free from covid jab and proud
Hi Dr. Boster Off topic here but I have a medical related question. Do medical students and professionals undergo training for doctor patient bonding using empathy and compassion as a factor in getting the best outcome? Lastly, is being empathetic part of the job as an MD? I have searched this up but want a legitimate answer from someone with your credibility
google translate: I tolerated it normally, it felt like the strongest vaccination I’ve ever had. There was terrible weakness for a couple of days, like what happens with the flu, then everything went away without a trace.

Definitely a good thing to know to talk to your medical team about!

Hello Dr. What are the risks of taking the YF vaccine if you have fibromyalgia? I really don’t want to take it, the COVID vaccine even got me down.
Have you got an answer for this? I have fibro and I am afraid to take the vaccine 😢

Yes. Definitely. We even train with actors pretending to be patients

Перенёс нормально, самая сильная прививка по ощущениям,какую делал. Была жуткая слабость пару дней как при гриппе бывает, потом всё прошло без следа.
