    Part 10: • OJ Da Juiceman on Figh...
    Part 8: • OJ da Juiceman on Soul...
    Part 1: • OJ da Juiceman: I Star...
    --------
    In this clip, OJ da Juiceman opened up to Shawn Prez about his label woes and how he was in such a bad contractual situation leading to him having no rights or claim to ownership for his biggest record, “Make Tha Trap Say Aye.” OJ also detailed signing the deal which had terrible conditions for him as the artist. He recalled the label taking 50% of his show money and kept the proceeds from his debut album. While the label undoubtedly jerked him, OJ da Juiceman didn’t make it difficult for them to do so by pulling up to sign the contract without a lawyer.

    Slim, Shawn knows the answer to the majority of the stuff he has been asking OJ because even I know the answer and I am not even apart of this industry LOL!! I know Shawn is just doing his job and trying to be respectful, but at times, this interview has felt like they were "Twistin the Knife" deeper than what his record label (or whatever entity he was signed to at that time) has already done to OJ. Juice is a complete street guy to the core that was actually a successful street guy to the core. Street guys like OJ are not really wired to plan for the future or to make intelligent business moves outside of street business moves. They don't have anyone to lean on and get them moving on the correct path forward. Someone has to step in and advise them on how to navigate otherwise they wouldn't know what to do just like most people wouldn't know what to do. This type of shit is what record labels and management/publishing/production companies have been doing since the beginning of the music industry. Yes, we all know OJ should have had a lawyer but he's not even gonna think that far into it back then or at that point in the timeline. Then the label started coming at him with critical decisions when he was in the middle of a personal health crisis!! That's the most DESPICABLE part to me.

    • @TwitterVerifier
      @TwitterVerifier 2 года назад +2

      I felt the same way but not to redirect this most people up north look at us down south as the dumbest people to ever live and he sounds like hes from New York. In a way it sounds like he's asking these questions to low key make fun of OJ and to make him look like he the dumbest artist ever. Yea it might seem like he's being respectful but deep down he's not, I don't like how he ask questions anyway every interview I click on from vlad and I hear his voice I just pass because you can hear the bias in his voice of the people he likes and idolize as an artist and the people he don't Vlad need to find someone else to work and do interviews for him he's horrible and disrespectful.

    • @sgtbrownty
      @sgtbrownty 2 года назад

      I don't think the interviewer was disrespectful but just playing devil's advocate. These questions were asked in hindsight. Yes OJ was burned financially but it appears that he has learned his lesson. Your WORD or HANDSHAKE is no longer a BOND in transactions anymore.

    Interviewer brought up a good question about having a lawyer when signing contracts. Also reading it along with them and asking the right questions. So a artist won't get taken advantage of. Saves years of regret. Unfortunately they came at him at a time to sign when he was at a desperate time. Like how they did Pac when signed to Death Row when he was down and in jail.

    Happens to many artists. Contracts not right and the artist still dives head first into the game. Juiceman was too in a rush to get in the game. They looked at juiceman as a come up. He got homeboyed. You can learn alot about contracts just by listening to artists who have gone through what juice went through, what to agree on and what not to agree on.
