Raven: Look into getting Ziya a swim cap to protect her hair, chlorine will lighten her hair color.
I was just about to type this. A swim cap will be a great help to preserve the style and the health of her hair.
Add moisturizer to her braids to keep her hair from breaking due to the dryness from chlorine as well as the artificial hair that dries out hair and it cuts into the natural hair like micro sissors that break the hair. Or run conditioner over the braids. Put a drop in hand and run along the braids once a week. This way when u take braids down you won't have as much tangle, knots and breakage.
Psa sorry to say, swim caps don't actually protect the hair. They weren't designed for that. They are meant to a) streamline the swimmer for optimally cutting through the water and b) protect pool drains
And also to protect the braids she has, so it won’t get frizzy that fast. But it’s a year a go, so I think - if so - you definitely found out by now hahaha! ❤

Swimming caps ‼️‼️ what we used to use to also protect our hair from the harsh pool chemicals and preserve hair styles (don’t quote me if that’s not true 😅)… they are relatively cheap and easy to find in sports-type shops
My momma used to say I can't get in the pool because the pool will mess up my hair especially after a perm or my hair just got washed. I try to put a cap on but if falls off
I think Ziya will really appreciate you as a mom as she gets older. Although she’s more on the shy/timid side when it comes to trying new things, I think you do a really great job of preparing her to try them. Just talking to her beforehand and letting her know what to expect probably eases her mind and maybe even gets her a little excited when the time comes! So happy for you two 😊

@@AngelaaJoyy oh I figured something is better than nothing preserving our hair.. buy a good one like I had when I was young my hair barely got wet. It was mostly my edges surrounding baby hair… but it was tight 🤷🏾♀️

Her hair came out really cute! I always do jumbo braids in my daughters hair because she's impatient lol and has a a lot of hair. Just a suggestion try to find a swim cap specifically for natural hair/braids to preserve her braid because too must exposure to water can lead to fuzziness and shorter wear time.

I know this is a video about hair, but speaking on the swim lessons; I think it’s extremely important. I know I don’t need to go into this but black children are in a disadvantage when it comes to knowing how to swim so my heart gets full when I see them freely swim. Ashamed to admit it but I’m grown and I still do not know how to swim. I can’t even get onto boats, open bodies of water or anything. I always think about God forbid me getting into an accident and I end up submerged in water I honestly would have no idea what to do. I feel like if I had gotten swim lessons in my early years i probably would’ve been more confident. I know it’s never too late to learn but until I get over that fear I stick to 5 ft pools I’ve made a vow that if I ever have children they will be getting swim lessons as soon as they’re able to hold their head up.💯

Beautiful hairstyle. I liked when she came home from school and her hair was all over the place - that shows she had a wonderful day at school. hahahaha! Ziya's swimming is coming along well ... she is going to be a champion by the end of summer season! Don't forget now ... you have to have a final swim of the summer party ... then a home movie outside to follow! Instead of a fence could you add bushy trees? It might be hard to get a lawnmower back there with a fence. ☀️🏊🏼♀️. Have a great summer Ziya!

I’d be careful with swimming a lot during the week . Too much chlorine in her hair can cause her hair to break off because of the chemicals. She has beautiful hair and I’d hate to have you and her go through that. Her braids turned out so cute!

She reminds me so much of myself when I was little, I remember my mom always being overwhelmed by my hair because I had so much just like Ziya! I remember getting my braids for the first time 🥲 such an experience, I felt so cool and pretty!
We have really watched Ziya grow up. I was sitting here smiling the whole first 6 mins seeing how long her has gotten, seeing how big girl she is as she was moving her pillows for bed and wearing her scarf like we use to wear our scarves back in the 90’s!! Awww . And our niece first set of braids.

Have you considered using the swim turban or swim cap to prevent so much chlorine from getting into her hair so much?

Braids are adorable! Former varsity swimmer here: braids are actually not a great solution if she's swimming in a chlorinated pool every week. The chlorine just soaks into the braids and gets trapped in there, drying out her hair strands. Common misconception is that swim caps are supposed to keep water out, and (black) folks will ask WHY IS THERE WATER GETTING IN MY CAP?? swimming caps aren't actually meant to protect swimmers hair; its to protect the pool drains!
So sad to say, there isn't a great solution for swimming hair, except to just be very diligent about washing and INTENSE moisturizing!

@@cocoday15 in fairness, in terms of maintenance for the parent, it is definitely a lot easier if it's in braids haha. But yes, it's definitely worse for the health of the hair

I been swimming since i was 5, my mom would spray my hair with leave in conditioner and I would wear a swimming cap. There’s different sizes for caps that can help fit in the braids. This help to keep my braids last longer.

Always wear caps in the pool keeps your hair not damaged from the clorium AND your pool filters clean from hair!
So cute!! Braids are great for swimming for sure. Just make sure y’all wash the chlorine out everyday! My hair turned red and fell out as a kid cuz I was swimming everyday and wasn’t washing the chlorine out lmao! 😩😂

Ziya's hair came out so good!!!! Here's a big tip for her hair, your hair & anyone's hair before getting in the pool saturate the hair with tap water! You don't want to be putting dry hair into pool water or ocean water or any kind of water that contains chemicals or minerals, the hair acts as a sponge. Lastly rinse the hair immediately coming out of the pool & if she is playing in the pool on a daily basis frequently give her fresh water rinses in between. The best case scenario would be if she could wear a swim cap & if you can get her a cap still keep with the fresh water before capping and the fresh water after. Hope she is enjoying her new style, she's so adorable! Take care.

Raven do NOT waste money on a wall. The best and much nicer would be to have tall privacy bushes planted they have some 6-20 feet tall. They are narrow and would fit that space perfectly without touching the pool. You would still have room between bushes and pool. I own several properties and have knowledge on renovations, upgrading, budgeting etc.

My daughter has a lot of hair too, I use to get her hair done in different braiding styles in the summer while she swam a lot in the summer. I would do Mohawks, ponytails, etc…
So maybe you can try that instead of adding hair.
Ps. She’s 18 now and heading to JSU for college in the fall 🥺
Have you considered putting up evergreen trees, they would give you privacy even from the balcony.
