Me being from the North of the country, any comment I’ll make about this case might seem divisive since there were conflicts between the North and the South. Yeah i think what the politician said was correct, that the neighboring farmers were promised a cash injection and jobs on this land, and the south africans were promised the farm land; so the middleman between the congolese and south africans effectively caused this tension, and run off with the grant money; where now the congolese farmers have to compete against south africans expensive farm equipment

@@oogabooga2581 Don't think it's even the expensive farm equipment. Modern techniques, efficiency management modeling, modern accounting, modern hiring practices, and general educational levels will have them out competing any African single family holding peasant farmer.

Id there famine in Congo Brazzaville ? In our Congo Kinshasa, we face some problems of imports ... the government keeps on importing instead of encouraging the locals ... we have plenty of food but due to lack of good infrastructures, fishes are dying of aging, the vegetables are rotting in many areas ... the government doesn’t make it easier . So all the efforts the people are going to make will mean absolutely nothing especially for a country as big as the DRC... I believe it is also the problem in many other countries.

As a white South African myself who left the country more than 20 years ago, I can actually understand the Congolese. Most of the South African farmers are indeed right- wing Christians who don't want to mix with blacks. They are definitely out there for themselves, and not to create better lives for the locals. They thought going there would have been the same as in the old South Africa where their was an abundance of cheap labour and blacks that will do whatever they tell them to do. Most of these farmers are paying locals next to nothing for working like slaves.
The South African farmers in other parts of Africa has basically established colonies like the Germans in South America for example. It is not their intention to integrate in their new countries, nor share their profits with the locals or to learn the local language or French.
On the other side it is difficult to be a farmer in South Africa these days with the high number of farm murders. If it's a good thing for them to move to other African countries? I'm not so sure.

That's why they failed in zimbabwe - a country who has no respect for property rights will not allow the land to be used as collateral.
That's how the whites were so successful. Every year they secured loans to start the harvest. Then paid off loans and enjoyed the remaining profit.

Some of this guys where never farmers back in South Africa. You can see they had shacks before. You may find that they were junkies and now they introduce them as investors. If this guys are hard workers and investors then why they didn’t pull it together. This is how corporate South Africa survive here in South Africa since then to this day. Black slavery made Europe and Middle East rich. The same phenomenon of black slavery still persists in South Africa and is called employment. If anyone listened carefully you will hear the locals were not happy with the mentality of this white who want them to work for them in their land for free while they just directing them. In the first place they don’t even know how this people got on their tribal land. Hence when he go and approach local king he still has attitude. The other white guy who is from France understands the local dynamics he even mentioned that he was shocked to learn that South Africans can pull such project without resources. Here is another important thing here, the same white South Africans were paid by the Congolese government to farm and free land to farm. I wonder why the locals were not offered such opportunities. I am aware that other projects have collapsed while run by the locals but it was in the different area so locals should have received first preference before South Africans. If we continue to ignore how Europeans and relationship to slavery then we will always think this people are hard workers or idea generators. It was easy for the Europeans to disposed a black body before and it doesn’t mean today is hard as they approach the world as corporate not as slave master. But it is one and the same thing. Whites they always talk about hard work and intelligence but we know their brutal killing of black people has positioned them in the seat they are occupying today. The same whites will continue to kill anyone who stand on their way or affect their interests and claim the God will or favour. May the world see what is happening that it was never hard work but ruthless killing of the babies, women and men to get maximum attention and submission from the slaves. Today in 2023 the masters are still killing us in the hands of the black government in South Africa.

They used to receive loans at low interest rates to purchase seeds, fertilisers and machinery. The govt also imposed tarrifs on imported food stuff, this gave Boer farmers monopoly over the local market, and South Africans were made to buy food at high prices (because importing cheaply was difficult)! Moreover, the Boer farmers exploited Black people by underpaying them, or sometimes paying them in Alcohol (Cape wineries) or not paying them at all! White farmers thrived because they were cossetted by the apartheid regime and because they were able to exploit Black workers and customers.

I will be kind enough to give some context to the name confusion.
The Kingdom of Kongo, from which the name Congo was taken was a small Kingdom in Central Africa. This Kingdom was divided yes, but I'll come back to that afterwards to explain why it's bullshit to say whites divided the two Congos (that they were the same country in some past).
Before French and Belgians colonized territoires in Central Africa, the whole region was referred to as "The Congo", not because it was a country known as Congo, but because the only ancient Kingdom with ties to European countries/Kingdom in that region was the Kongo Kingdom. If you had to compare that "The Congo" to the Kongo Kingdom in size, it would be similar to comparing a football field to a 30 cm ruler or so.
So, what Europeans divided was not a country but a region with hundreds of Kingdoms and Chieftaincies which considered themselves different from each other. As a result, in some instances, rival Kingdoms were placed inside one country, in others some Kingdoms saw their territories split between different countries and this was the case for the Kongo Kingdom.
The French decided the name their share "The French Congo", because as I already said, the whole region was then referred to as the Congo. Later on, the Belgians named their share "Belgian Congo".
So, in short, if they did anything, they actually unified (or perhaps forced unity among) some territories and split some, but they did not separate a country named Congo. And most importantly, the confusion did not actually come from there. In 1958, right before independence, the French Republic granted some autonomy to its colonies, and the French Congo became a Republic, named the Republic of Congo, while the Belgian Congo remained that way till independence in 1960 where it was also named the Republic of Congo. That's where the confusion comes from, because then we had two countries with exactly the same name. To differentiate, the earlier was referred to as Congo-Brazzaville and the later Congo-Leopoldville (the capital cities were added to the word Congo). Although the later was subsequently renamed the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and then Zaïre and back to RDC, the confusion remained.

@Reality Tube, as you can see, I'm certainly not the idiot here. Next time do some research before talking about serious topics. Which is just ridiculous.

I was the journalist who went with the farmer couple, Sarie and Frans Cronje, to the Congo in 1996. As you probably know, there was a civil war a year later which lasted until 1999. The first democratic elected President, Lissouba, who had invited the South Africans was ousted by a military coup through Denis Sassou with the help of the Angolan military. All the South African had to flee. As I have heard, Sarie and Frans found work in Pointe Noire. He was working at a saw mill, but I have no idea where they are now.

These South African farmers didn't buy that land .The land was leased to them by the government for a certain period .Then the land will be back to the government .
How that happened ?
