Along about 1993 or '94, my wife was suggesting that we replace our 1970s car with something from the '90s. So I looked in Hemmings and found one of these. "Here you go, dear. Something from the '90s". "Wrong '90s!!!" she shouted.
Yes, this would be more likely, however I'd like to see a bit more as the game ends around 1908 or so, so perhaps a oldsmobile, buick, studebaker, maxwell, stanley, daimler (well, the american made daimler models) really the list goes on and on. And have a glass windowed building with a nice Packard or Cadillac that you can purchase in Saint Denis, gee that would be nice.
@@haroldpearson6025 but go online and they'll say shit about these being 8 miles per hour and the first big car being in 1915 at 20 miles per hour..... I know because I read that exact thing once... absolutely ridiculous.
I wish a car like this was in RDR2. I always think it would be a neat DLC or something if there was a side mission where a car dealership opened up in Saint Denis. It would make even more since if it happened during the epilogue, since it takes place in 1907. You could have a series of missions helping establish the dealership, and when you’re done, you can buy a car. Even if they don’t let you buy one, it would at least be cool to see a few NPC’s driving them.
@@joeldaniels-akacringeevery7650 Yeah, if Saint Denis is the equalivent of New Orleans, it not some backwater either. Hell there's a whole district full of Mansions. Those rich french guys would be snapping at the bit to be the first one with a chauffeured car around town.
@@gregoryborton6598 the thing is, there were major differences between 1899 and 1907. In 1899, the streets were more narrow, with no cars on the streets, less electricity (arc lamps) and fewer buildings. By 1907, the streets were wide enough with cars and horses, with most cities being electrified and taller buildings into the equation. I can't really put the finger on rockstar because it would be have been too much work if they had to vastly change Saint Denis for historical accuracy between 1899 and 1907. I think the only death from explosion was in a Locomobile. As I recall the owner was running it on a propane tank. Don't know whether the boiler or the tank blew up.
It was a later steam car, and the owner over filled the home made gas cylinders (filling them himself) which caused them to vent, the cylinders were under the floor above the engine towards the back of the car. There was no wind and a passenger in the back lit a cigarette, which ignited the gas. Many Steam Car owners today use propane for the pilot lights very safely and successfully, thanks to the use of sensibly installed systems and safety precautions. Indeed, a Steam car has never exploded.
2:23 is that a fuel too steam regulator on the Locomobile like the White steam cars or steam ventilation every time the pistons travels a full power stroke?
The thing I love about steam engines is that they are easy to build, small, if givin the right design could be faster than a gasoline car, and best of all, don't leave pollution.
i'm surprised no one jumped on this before... but steam engines most certainly pollute. it takes heat to turn water into steam, and to get heat you need to burn something. combustion generates carbon monoxide.... which is a pollutant.
I suspect the point they're making is....the video isn't about pianos, and the music coming from the vehicle can't be heard because of the piano. I'm not grumbling as i didn't pay to see the video... just saying what the consensus of opinion is.
Some steam engines capture and condense the spent steam so it can be pumped back into the boiler. Those engines are fairly quiet. Other engines, like this one, just exhaust the steam from the cylinder directly to the atmosphere, so you hear a chug chug just like a steam locomotive. Range is limited by the amount of water it carries, as well as fuel.
@@donaldkgarman296 It was a specially built Stanley that first broke the 120 mph record in 1906. A year later, they tried again, and it got up at least over 150 mph before it hit a bump, became airborne, and crashed. The driver, Fred Marriott, miraculously survived.
