  • JAMES EARL ADAIR Visits Bristol Zoo and helps clean out the gorillas' cage. LOUISE HALL-TAYLOR visits Juniper Hill School's home-made zoo at feeding time. Recorded here in Summer Term 1983. Continuity includes BBC Schools Dots Countdown Clock and a rare announcement about schools programmes moving to BBC2 from Autumn 1983. From my own personal collection of N1700 video tapes. Uploaded purely for educational purposes only.

How come so few Schools Programmes that day - unusual for them not to continue right up to News After Noon. Was it close to the end of term?

A bit of a mystery that, this was mid-June, so there would have been about 4 weeks of term left. The schools programmes usually finished at around 12 to 12:30 as that's when most schools had lunch hours. Normally the next programme after Watch was Walrus, which was about 10 minutes longer than Watch so would potentially have gone up until around 11:50. The only thing I can think of that year was perhaps the election interfered with the transmissions of the day?
