This is the world’s second 1998 Nissan R390 GT1 road-legal, but the only one converted from race to road. It’s also one of two privately-owned chassis and the only one to be used in fact on the streets besides the original R390 GT1 Road Car. Video has been filmed during the 2022 Concorso d'eleganza Villa d'Este.

The R390 GT1 its so wonderful
Nice to see it has a worthy owner too - Erik Comas is an ex-F1 driver who drove for Ligier and Larrousse and won the F3000 championship in 1990. He also won the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship twice in row in a Skyline GT-R for NISMO.
He also was saved by another legendary driver named Ayrton Senna, from an incident in F1, back in 1992.
Yep the penzoil nismo r34 jgtc
It's a lot better than a non skilled wannabe getting a hold of the car, and doing nothing with it
90s race cars hits differently. So fucking gorgeous
The last great era of sports car racing...The road going homologation specials are absolutely legendary! I believe the rights to the V8 engine from the 390 were purchased by Maclaren which now powers its cars!
That car isn't homologation special, it's the same car he drove at le man's he restored and made into a road car
Only one of these cars were street legal, and it's sitting in the Nismo showroom in Japan.
As for McLaren purchasing the rights, they did. However it was specifically for the Tom Walkinshaw Racing engine that was built out of Nissan's engine.
McLaren's cars are junk from what I've seen. Their quality control isn't great so you end up with a lot of messed up manufacturing on the construction of the cars themselves. For that money it's a travesty.
The engines might be good, but the cars not as much.
It's not the same company it was when they produced the F1. Whenever a company has an amazing product that's successful, and then they move into higher volume production it's usually at the cost of quality.
Set one of my fastest 400m/1000m/top speed records on gt2 with this car.
There is something so right about a loud racecar at a posh car show
Oh man that idle sounds 100% lawn mower. The revs though...
Right in the middle crazy when it idled most definitely sounded like a lawn mower that's all I could hear
Badass 👊🏽
Start this up in the morning and the neighbors will definitely think you're cutting grass
@@jasonnelson1211 lol my man cutting grass 🤣
1990s, Golden Age of MotorSports
A lot of homologation specials
Lotus Elise GT1
McLaren F1 GTR
Mercedes CLK GTR - CLK LM
Nissan R390 GT1
Panoz Esperante GTR-1
Porsche 911 GT1 & GT1-98
Toyota GT-One
Absolutely right! It's not like now....gt3 is a laughingstock😆😆😆
Yes, 5 of those are in my top 10 all time favorite cars. That truly was a golden age in my eyes.
If only group 5 still existed
Don't forget Mazda 787B
Those turbos sure sound hungry for some air.
lol yeah sounds heat soaked after he revved the shit out of it
@@gears1707 heal soak what’s that? I’m heard that term here and there for a while.
@@tony_5156 high air intake temperature.
Where he keeps his lid is simply the best piece of car design I have ever seen
The Lancia Stratos had helmet holders in the doors. I'm guessing that the Nissan engineers took some inspiration from there. i.pinimg.com/originals/d0/eb/dc/d0ebdc1b550548c70980986308e71eb3.jpg
it revs so freely and powerful! The roaring sounds amazing!!!!!
You know you see something special, when you don't notice a F40 until 1:48min into the video
Gran Turismo 3 vibes 😍
McLaren Turbo FPC V8 vibes 👍
Yep first thing I thought about.. building The Tamiya model and playing Gran Turismo!
The road version in GT4 is by far the fastest road car when fully upgraded, can even be faster than the race version.
The 90s were just better
The golden age trully
@@IatAS depends if you like carbon fiber. 90s carbon is basically not that great and OMG it was expensive. 90s computers and ECUs were also bad news. Loads of plastic nylon parts in the 90s.
This is a fine motor car, and appears to be a higher evolution of the 1960s GT car - not much different to the Ford GT40.
Only in certain regards.
@@weareallbeingwatched4602I guess you can what ever happened with the last 10 years.
La Ferrari having 900 total with 100hp electric motor
Now in 2023
2300hp on production with 900hp electric motor is now possible.
It’s just the era and the variety of what the 90s had to offer.
OMG😍. Now THIS is a SUPERcar!
なるほど、98年参戦のうち一台(30?31?)がコマス氏所有になってたのか。

Definitely this is cool and weird (in good sense) at the same time. The second road-legal R390 GT1 ever and the first one converted from an ex-race car.Amazing
0:44 Wow look and hear that beautiful VRH35L V8 block.Outstanding,and it sounds like a full-race V8 👍
Very nice. I think that the Emergency brake would really get on my nerves, but it is an amazing car
how many Road-legal Nissan R390 GT1 are there? wikipedia zayz there'z only one?
@@neihomai8 Only one made by nissan, this one was a race car
@@AahhhhPuch The only R390 GT1 road car was the red color as original and changed to the blue color after a year.
Is it a 3.8l V8?
Let me sum this video up
Driver - rev rev rev rev rev rev rev rev rev rev rev
Move sightly forward while revving
Rev rev rev rev rev rev rev rev rev turbo noises
Woooooo.... That is absolutely stunning... Thankyou so much
fun fact: with the development of this car regulations of lemans said they had to use mass produced parts so the used the headlight of the 300ZX.
So did lamborgini diabolo gt 😂😂😂😂😂
underrated classic
Yeah, because front looks so bloody ugly
Thats only cause you fanboy Nissan. This Car was never successful so how exactly is it underrated?
@@azeQify I imagine he/she means that not many people know about it.
When it's revving at around 2:20 ish it actually sounds like it's saying "Brrumm".
2:06 Sounds EXACTLY like my lawnmower starting
I was going to say the same thing. Did they get the engine track from my lawnmower, right?
Hear that engine ?
Doesn't it sound familiar to modern McLaren engines?
Yep that's right the McLaren engine is derived from this. Very interesting fact.
Great video Nick btw 👍
But far from the fabled CanAm McLarens or a 3rd to 2nd downshift growl and pop from a Jag.
@@thepaulmacfarlane im about to comment this. i was quite surprised when i found out about it, what was nissan thinking when they did that, a new gtr with this engine would be sick
@@i8i03muhammadfarizb7 what was Nissan thinking when they did what?
@@jesterokjones4954 nissan sold the engine to mclaren
When you say 'derived' one must clarify how far away the Mclaren M838T engine actually is from this Nissan unit, and that is very far away indeed. These racing units were Nissan designed, then Tom Walkinshaw enhanced. It was vastly changed after this for for the touted Indycar usage. Then those units ended up in the hands of Mclaren and Ricardo, who just used them as test beds and tinkered with them while they did a clean sheet design of their own for the M838T. There's nothing really in Mclaren's engine apart from the original bore size that remained. It's kind of like claiming a Boeing 747 is derived from the Wright flyer because they have wings. Well yes in the most pedantic sense of the word, but also no. Ricardo looked at the engine and saw what worked then just built their own for the 21st century. It's not even really an improved copy or anything.
man these GT1 homologation cars are some of the wildest street legal hypercars ever buit. if i ever became fuck you rich i'd really have to own one.
Literally underated
My dream garage, is every 90's GT1 roadcar ever.
Damn, listen to this car. That thing is properly A N G R Y
R390 doesn’t want to idle and rev, it wants to hunt!
About as rare as it gets 😍
Art!!
that was one of my favorite cars in Gran Turismo 2
I remember this car in Gran Turismo 2 PS1 simulation mode.
Japanese V8...
That sounds like a dream
1965 Nissan President (H150), V8 4.0L 😏
A true holy grail machine, especially since from what the description says it's one of two race cars that were converted to road.
Whereas there's only one road version and Nissan owns that.
This car sold at auction 3 years ago for nearly 18 million usd....
Gran Turismo PSP 2009
Very awesome car
Like R390 GT1 Race Car 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I remember seeing this car for first time in GT2 with calssonic vynels when I was kid, and man I still love this car
It's converted from a race car, or a road legal car. There's a few porsche 911 GT1's, and a mclaren f1 gtr long tail that have been covered to road legal cars as well! That's what makes GT1 cars so cool
It's / It was a rule in GT1. They needed to build at least 25 Streetcars and that'S why there is stuff like that and the CLK GTR around :D
@@friendlyreptile9931it was 25 cars only for the first two years, it got reduced to only 2 cars after that (and then down to JUST ONE thanks to Nissan's lobbying)
@@GrinXpedia They are allowed to make more but 25 was what you needed to race it and if they build 26 or 28 is not important for me b.c. i will never buy one but good to know so thank you for the information.
Wonderful! This beautiful automobile would not be able to be driven in the poor road conditions of New Orleans,LA.,USA .
Yeah, or in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Shreveport, or in Bossier City, LA, USA. And especially not in Opelousas.
It wouldn’t be able to be driven on most US roads safely. Especially in the northeast with all the potholes.
What a wonderfull and relevant observation!
25 year rule is coming up soon on it.
It sadly wouldn’t be able to drive anywhere. It would probably get totaled by a RAV-4 or a CRV.
That two stroke sound is insane 🙉🙉
What an amazing machine! This is rare of rare race car.
That is so fucking cool. My favourite car as a kid in gran turismo. I didn’t even know it was real.
Almost every car in Gran Turismo is real.
この個体は31号車かな?
32号車と30号車(レプリカ32号車)は日産が保管してるから
This would be a pain to drive on the streets I bet. I'd be afraid of stalling it too much lol
Amazing to think this is where McLaren sourced their V8 for their entire product stack of cars.
I always love this beautiful Nissan!
sounds like 350 rpm at idle 😵💫😵💫
Just imagine that star line 🤯
I had to pause the video to make sure the sound is coming from my computer speakers and not my lawn mower lol. This sounds exactly like my lawn mower. But still a very cool car.
Wow, incredible
The grail of gran turismo
Very very special machine... 🤩
My favorite car for about 3 yrs after it dropped.
I think one of the modern McLaren engines is derived from this cars engine.
スーパーカー日本代表

this gt4 as you thought will easily fuck off the current gt3 ....LOL😆

Good to see all the oil seals are holding up just fine…
it's kinda crazy this car is one of Le Mans Prototypes has made it into Production lines and now literally driving off into cities roads
Legend has it that back when Nissan made the single R390 road car for homologation they offered to make other ones to the public at one million dollars a piece but nobody went for it.
Anyway, I absolutely adore the turbo sounds this engine makes.
I wish they would add the bloody thing to GT7!! C'mon Polyphony, pull your finger out!
I just got bamboozled from the thumbnail !
Que Maquina!
My ultimate dream car.
The revs are TOP SHELF
Love your thumbnail.
Looks like miniature/model
You never see so may Japanese cars look hella slick like these and definitely at a prestige car show.
夢の車。
美しく勇ましい素晴らしい発動機の音、排氣音。
Amazing!
I thought only one existed in the Nissan Museum. So this one was converted from a decommissioned race car?
Yes
almost gran turismo scapes videography looks, well done!
300zx headlights i love it
WOAH nice nissan
I could have sworn the thumbnail was of a model car!
Beautiful!!!❤️❤️
Sound like lawn mowing crew at work, early Saturday morning.
So McLaren just simply carried over the exhaust noice heh.
Wowzers. Stunning!! (was that at an auction?)
When I clicked on this I'm like wow this looks like a Maserati MC12 and lo and behold there's an mc-12 parked right next to it. One of my favorite all-time cars. Nissan was ahead of the game in they should have released a street production version.
Так У Меня У Соседа Была в начале 00 👍МС 12 , в начале 00 Белый Металлик
idles exactly like my lawnmower
Headlights from a Lamborghini Diablo, wow!
what are you taking about? investigate better since the Lamborghini devil was the one who copied the lights of the 300zx.
Oh my goodness,
It's Nissan the angel of doom.
In the game it's also very fast. I modified it with a little hellaflush tyres. Ova here the tyres it's not hellaflush at all to maintain the gorgeous ness.
Car: " road legal "
Tires: " for competition only "
Me: 🤨
wait i thought these cars would all be in some nissan museum like toyota did with the gt-one road versions.
Siiiick AF.
Idle sounds a bit like a lawnmower, but I don't dislike it, but it needs full throttle operation o:
One is blue in the museum and another one white?
HELL. YES.
Casso che mezzo... Sinceramente non sapevo nemmeno della sua esistenza... Però che mezzo😍
when you grab your helmet out of the box in the door, the its gettin serious :D
geeenau da ist ein kennzeichen dran. :D
If you close your eyes and listen to this video, it sounds like landscaping equipment like a suped up weed wacker or lawnmower
sounds good
Kool looking kit car
// 😵 _DREAMCAR!!!_
Oh my God. Didn't they only make like 3 of these?
I want to see and hear the road car version. I actually like it much better.
That was everyone wants in Gran Turismo 3 .. Because the AI is always best with this car!
looks great, sounds like a lawn mower at idle...
