"This is the martial artist who singlehandedly killed hundreds of our soldiers, including a 40 foot tall giant, and also destroyed battalions of helicopters, armored buggies, cranes, bulldozers, and a fully functional tank, all with his bare hands. The last thing our boss sent against him was a 240mm railway gun. It wasn't enough. ...C'mon, guys! We can take him!"
The last part of this scene always stood out as unusually gory to me, compared with how those bloody embolisms are usually portrayed. The animation team also seemed to put extra effort in to it.
i've heard this anime was gory originally but was partially censored afterwards, some people say the vhs tapes were gory, some say the original theatre screening only was, maybe this was carried over from an uncensored vhs... i'm just assuming though
@@vooshmoozik6185 I'm 99% certain that there was no censorship between the original and western versions, in my part of the world the dub was marketed to an older audience. Rei's introduction really stands out in that way too (so much that it gets included in the dub's intro). Funny thing about the OVA though, right? Some odd "vaseline on the lens" censorship, but still horrifying! I think the Spanish and Italian versions were untouched ? ?
@@burntreynolds1068 Many people think it was censored for export. In actuality, it's the Italian version that is de-censored. The film was pulled from theaters in Japan after a very short time when parents complained about how violent it was. The studio had to hastily re-edit it to blur all the gory Hokuto deaths in order to be allowed to distribute it.
Some friendly advice, when you see a Fist of the North Star bandit, run, run, run for your damn life. These bandits don't even show a shred of fear when someone like Ken utterly slaughters their comrades in cold blood, right in front of them with strange and disastrous technique.
There's nothing to be afraid of, as long as you haven't been misbehaving. I mean serious misbehaving, the worst Bat earned was a couple of whacks from Kenshiro.
I really wonder why these attacks have different names, since they all boil down to the same thing. Ken goes "atatatatata", starts hitting his oponent and the latter one explodes.
...That's mostly just Hyakuretsu Ken, and two or three other techniques. Aside from that, almost everything else is one shot techniques based on hitting an opponent in a specific spot.
And even if they do something else, exploding the body is still part of it. Like that attack vs Amiba that makes someone walk backwards over the edge only to explode mid-air making it all useless.
@@adzi6164 He also knows a technique that makes a person regain their streght instantly. I think he could even make an egg hardboiled without water, just by hitting it in a certain way. Let's not forget that he's a master of Hokuto Shinken, after all...
@@mattreggie4481 I'm going to be dumb and treat this sentence seriously... Hokuto Shinken is about manipulating pressure points on living beings. Egg isn't a living being... ...and that episode with zombies was a non-canon filler. Same with the tank.
"We've run out of animation budget"
"Uhhh, just use clips from the intro!"
beautiful animations though

梅津泰臣さんが描いた絵に、ちょっとオープニングの絵を足したカットですね。当時は唯一、梅津さんが描いたシーンということで、興奮した記憶があります。懐かしい。

Actually, Ken has a technique that makes a person unconscious for a while while erasing their short-tern memory, which he used a few times.
