I love that your moments of extreme excitement and yelling "LET'S GOOOO" involve 1) winning territory capture 2) catching a big fish and 3) getting to take a bath
It is pretty funny. I do get genuinely excited with stuff in this game, but I think it's my FPS player coming out whenever I go over the edge lol
It blows my mind how you can make a day-by-day walkthrough of this game so entertaining. Thank you for continuing to document your journey! Don't worry about the cutscene slip-ups: if no one else has documented it, no one else can prove you missed anything 😂 all of us know there's next to no info out there for this game. Keep going strong in Year 3, good sir! Can't wait to see the results :)
Thank so much! I did a whole deep dive into every possible cutscene in both this version, AnWL, and the SE, and I'm just attempting every one as the time lines up.
Oh man, this and 64 were the only HM games me and my sister had growing up, she was obsessed with this game. Only when we were much later in life did we learn that it's considered "too slow" (even for a Harvest Moon game). We agreed that we had a great time playing it and that's really all that matters when playing games growing up. In fairness, once you know about giving gifts and doing villager events, there is more to do than there initially seems.
I never got to play 64, but I've heard it's a gem. They addressed the "slowness" by shortening the chapter length to 1 year in AnWL and the SE, but I feel like the longevity is part of the charm of the original. All those villager events and hybrid crops really flesh out the back half of the game, and it was one of the major reasons I wanted to do the 100% lol

I was inspired by your first video to try to "complete" this game myself, although I'm playing the Another Wonderful Life version so a few things are different, the main one being I only have 6 years instead of 10 (which is both good and bad).

I’ve been playing AnWL too! Honestly 6 years is plenty. I think the hardest part is the crop hybrids, but I’m not trying to do all of those. I’m currently in Year 5 and honestly am skipping through some of the days by sleeping to get to the end!
That being said. I hope the remake has more dialogue for all the people because they get really repetitive over time. Even my son says the same 3 things to me
You have the closest thing to a complete strategy guide out there, I watched the series as prep for my playthrough and I miraculously got big arna just now, day 17.
Lol thanks so much! That was one of my goals. Creating something that everyone has access to if they wanted to "complete" the game. I ended up catching another big arna around day 145, I think. I would like to see someone decompile the game and get hard date like percentages so I can know for sure that the Big Arna is rare and not that I was unlucky lol
This series is so easy to watch compared to other playthroughs of this game. I adore all of the HM and SOS games but it can be hard to stick to long playthroughs. AND THEN THIS PLAYTHROUGH HAPPENS! Wonderful job with your videos you really put in so much effort and it totally paid off :D

I'm a lot like you though. Almost all the content I engage with is under an hour, so I try to make sure my videos are "digestible" for the lack of a better term.

im loving the way you do this, I know this is one of the most fan appreciated games in the franchise but I've never played it, I feel even though I'm seeing lots of cutscenes and story events when i go to play it myself its still gonna feel fresh. I dont know how you did it but your doing a 100%playthrough without ruining the game for a new player. yeah as i keep watching ill see one of the endings but watching this just wants me to play the game

Not sure if I remember correctly but if you had more than 10,000-20,000 gold on the first year alone your house would look a little better like for example a different carpet than having that black one 🧐 because back 20 years ago I noticed there was some short of difference when I noticed my siblings had a different carpet.
Edit: Oh yea, so each new chapter base on how much you have your new house upgrades will look much nicer depending how much money you have. I think the highest was in the 100k gold? It’s been like 20 years for me but most of my play throughs of this game was getting rich as I can. Also, did you play with the kid and keep food in the fridge? Those I think were important in chapter 2…
Edit 2: Oh yea, it’s hard finding information on what’s in the game since there’s always something new going on… I remember when RUclips first came out that it definitely helped at the time to learn new things about the game.
Most cutscenes is about timing it. Rather that’s the clock or calendar 📅 there’s a risk of missing out and not able to see it again. Not sure which cutscenes that would be probably the old lady who passed away was likely one of them. 😢

It's crazy that the house decor is determined by the money you have. I never knew that was a mechanic lol!
I was keeping plenty of food around and playing with the child. Mostly trying to get the bathtime cutscene but it was accomplished!
I learn so many new things that I thought I had down every single time I stream the game, so it's super fun that this game is still shrouded in mystery two decades since it was published!

But yes, there’s so much mystery around all versions of the game. Also, there’s some pretty interesting glitches that can make you rich at the first chapter. Though Another Wonderful Life had the most crazy broken glitches ever by just having a 2nd controller plug in on the 3 slot.
Edit: Nvm what I said about Murrey keep giving him money. His last cutscene is in the final chapter.

So stoked you FINALLY beat Patrick at territory capture! I recall only ever beating a twin maybe once or twice as a kid, and all I got for it was a moon ore! So not worth it!
He eventually upgrades to sugar ore's when you beat him 10 times lol. But yeah, it's def not worth the hassle.

Another fantastic video! I recently got Another Wonderful Life(because as a kid i only had AWL and wanted to play as girl) and it brought back so many memories. Sure i could get the remake(which i am of course) but its sort of nice to play the original on original hardware.
Also everytime you say the harvest sprites names i laugh because as a kid I guess i just didn't get their naming convention. Its super cute.
I agree! The remake will be nice, but it won't scratch that same itch as AWL or AnWL. The harvest sprites are silly little creatures with funny names. I swear they wanted to call them Snap, Crackle, and Pop like the Rice Krispy characters but couldnt lol
I have no idea why but the only thing I remembered about this game from my childhood was the calf hutches. Nothing else. None of the characters, or the mechanics... I just remembered the little white calf hutches viscerally of all the things.
To be fair, the calf hutch is hella cute. My first and most prevalent memory of this game is the blue feather cut scene. It's such an iconic piece of the franchise as a whole and the cut scene with the harvest sprites finding it and explaining it is burned into my long-term memory lol

Lol I was fishing in the swamp and the spring for a couple of ingame hours everyday until I caught that fish. I guess I was just unlucky
I used to play this game all the time as a kid. That said, I wasn't "good" at it. I vaguely understood that I could make hybrid crops, and definitely didn't know why my cows would stop making milk after a while lol.
All that to say, it's been really awesome to watch you play the game, well, significantly more competently than me lol. Thanks for the videos, it's been a blast.
As a cliff note: is it possible to do anything with the goat after it stops producing milk? I remember feeling like I got scammed when it stopped lmao
Thanks for watching! Regarding the goat, in the original version, there is nothing you can do but kill it if you want to free up space in the barn. In AnWL and the SE, they added an option to sell the goat, but that doesn't exist in the original lol

Love these videos so much! I played so much harvest moon when I was young and I'm also revisiting them and finding they are just as fun this time around! Did you ever play harvest moon DS or harvest moon cute? I had DS and it was my most played, it has the same town and characters as a wonder life, but has a lot of fun differences.
I did play HM: DS! I didn't get too into it as a kid since I just defaulted to playing FOMT on the GBA and I thought I already had the same town in AWL lol. I know the DS version has a lot more content so maybe I should give it another try!

I can't wait for the remake! I'll definitely be doing my own play though off stream, but will be streaming the game with a playthrough where my twitch chat makes almost all the decisions, which will be pretty fun!
Are you training your dog all the way too? The commitment to reach 100% is insane. I just replayed the game as I’ve never finished it as a kid and it’s so good, but it can def get tedious when you are trying to do a lot.
You cannot train your dog at all in the original AWL. That's not until Another Wonderful Life and the Special Edition.
@empiar5481 is right. Unfortunately, that mechanic was added in AnWL and the SE. Hopefully they include it in the remake so I can do it lol
I have always wanted to understand this game better. Having owned it and played it casually for many years I still haven’t done a fraction of what was shown here, there are even five or six characters I’ve never seen before! I guess I will have to head back to the farm.
Lol same here. When I was doing research for the challenge, and even when I'm streaming it, I'll come across new information on cutscenes, farming mechanics, etc. that I didn't know before. It's crazy how in-depth this game is without the developers coming right out and saying, "you can do this."

Thanks so much! Every in-game day takes me about 15-20 minutes so each year is about 11-12 hours. Of course, every player plays the game differently, so if you're not caught up in trying to see every cut scene, get every hybrid, etc. you could probably finish a year in 3-4 hours by sleeping a lot and doing only the necessities.
Editing this video is an entire process that probably took ~24 hours. Between writing and recording the script, cutting out mistakes, going through all the footage and synchronizing it with the narration, then adding the little stylistic bits, a video like this has a lot of time dumped into it.
Screen recording is pretty simple depending on how you're playing the game. If you're using an emulator, using OBS and recording the game source is pretty easy. If you're playing on the actual GC console or a Wii, you'll need a capture card that can be used as a source in OBS.

the Fogu website use to be the best place to get more information about the games because it offered the different versions as well as japanese/english events. The GameFAQs webpage still exist as well, not sure if either have the information you are needing about the events though. I remember playing Another Wonderful Life as a kid and Harvest Moon series is just one of my favorite. I wish I had the time to go back and play my GameCube copy.
I’ve combed through a whole bunch of gameFAQs, websites, and RUclips videos looking for event information. The only problem with those are that they are hard to define which ones will work in the original edition since I’ve already discovered some cutscenes that were supposedly not available in the OG. Right now, I’m just testing everything and seeing if it works lol
I’m impressed with how quickly you got money! I’m replaying again too and my farm is nothing like that in Chapter 2.
Depending on which version you're playing, money-making can be easy or difficult since they balanced the seed prices in AnWL and SE. I'm doing a playthrough of AnWL off-screen for a video I'm working on, and the only efficient money-making method is fishing lol
@@JackDuckGoose I’m doing the SE just to try marrying Lumina and to have a daughter. It’s definitely a lot harder to make money and influence your child in that version.

god, i still can't get over how much better the game cube graphics are for this game. i never actually played it myself, only special edition, but dang. my version looks like blurry garbage compared to this, trying to look at the grass in my field is a literal eye sore xD
also i never noticed before... that's supposed to be a picture of Romana, but it looks like a picture of Sebastian???? am i seeing that wrong because its blurry? it totally looks like him. wut
That's one of the reasons I went with the GC version. The graphics still hold up even though they're almost 20 years old.

Gemsoils make it such that hybrid seeds are able to grow in any condition of soil, I believe. Given that the very fertile field is so large, I don't think there's any practical purpose to them.
I can see how they're super useful in AnWL and SE without the big field or if you're not too invested into trees.

I'm loving this, my only question, why is it you plant your crops in a pattern? Is it to make it easier amd faster to water/harvest, does it improve them, or do you just like it? I always just pack it out lol
Honestly, there are rumors that placing them in the checkerboard pattern makes them grow faster and won't decrease their grade. Of course, these are all just rumors from the 2004 era of internet lol. I did it because that's how Vesta did it on her farm so I'm just a copycat

I know that dyslexia generally manifests through the mixing of letters and, potentially, numbers. It's just a running gag that me not being able to do basic match = dyslexia. Of course, I didn't mean any harm but I can see how this joke can be insensitive.
There is also another grant cutscene only appear if you meet at him early morning in his house where he give you am alarm clock and as for the spring fairy cutscene sadly the game had to quite alot content it was supposed to be in the game only to be cut. the reason was either don't have alot of development time or the console hardware limitation. Well anyway this game is pretty intetesting among many harvest moon games.

I've been trying to get a lot of cutscenes that I know are in the special edition and AnWL just in case there also in the original! This game is super unique in the HM franchise and in farming simulators generally. That's why it's my favorite lol
