Yeah, it's a bit different to the normal bow and arrow, more of a flip or pitch but it would be perfect for those bones that sneak up on you. Practise it with a cup or small bowl and try to land the fly inside. It's just a pendulum kind of motion as you gently lift the rod tip.
Yeah was really nice. Fishing was a bit quieter than expected but I only saw one other angler on the upper river in the morning and a couple in the evening which was great. How are the rivers over your way fishing? Already too hot?
Another excellent video, thank you. I am looking forward to getting myself down to the river for some fishing opportunities. Just hope that I am as successful as you are!
Thanks very much. Just carefully check the shallows, always some fish sitting in unexpected places in side channels, back eddies and shallow water near the bank or in the tail of pools this time of year.
Yeah I did a bit but not that much. I need to get a cup out and practise a bit more. I also wanted to attribute it to the video I saw it on originally but I couldn't find it. Do you have a link to that YT video. Someone was demonstrating it on their lawn.
Great footage and good fishing too, thumbs up, tight lines,, Tony.
Thanks very much Tony. Tight lines for you too
Great video Johan. The Tongariro is famous for a reason and what a place it is. Stunning. Not too many better. Thanks for sharing
It is indeed, the upper reaches are lovely. I still want to get in with a raft some time soon.
Brilliant man 🙌 love the tong
It's a great river, you'll have to come visit and fish it again some time
Excellent vid lovely conditioned trout Cheers Tim
Thanks Tim, they were indeed in great condition
Very nice video! Beautiful nature and amazing fishing! A pleasure to watch. Greetings from Sweden!
Thank you very much very happy to hear you enjoyed it. Greetings from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Hi Johan, I love trout that live on the edge! Good technique there and a beautiful fish. (i am still jealous). Cheers mate. Harera
Thanks Piere, there is nothing like a sight fished shallow water trout. Always best on a dry but this one was not looking up
Haha love that bow and arrow cast m8, can see that will be handy for some of those to close to cast bones.

Good stuff 👏 👍 👌
Thank you
Love the drone footage thank you
Thanks Steve. It gives such a different perspective, always a nice addition when I can do it.
Fantastic video Johan 👏. I'm glad you didn't fully submerged 😅
Haha thanks, it was very close though 😅
Great video mate. Looks like you had the river to yourself. Going to try and get over there next week hopefully.

Little bit of fun
Tom from Palmy
Hi Tom, was a bit of fun indeed. Thanks for watching
Enjoyed the video Johan. Tongariro is on top of my list to fish in 2023... assuming travel is allowed.
Thanks very much. I truly hope travel is back on the cards before next summer here and hope you make it over.
Did you practice the flip cast during lockdown? Looks like you've got it working a lot better than I have
