Teacher DIY | File Cabinet Makeover

  • There's no better way to celebrate getting a new classroom than with a DIY! As soon as I walked in, I knew that I had to tackle this file cabinet. Things didn't go as planned with this makeover, but I'm definitely happy with how it turned out.
    Tips for this DIY:
    1. Use goo gone and/or rust remover to get all the sticky stuff and rust off of your file cabinet for a more even color when you spray paint.
    2. If you choose to put contact paper on the top, you may need an extra set of hands to ensure that it is laid properly.
    3. If using contact paper, also make sure that it is sticky enough to stick on both the top and the sides (this will save you lots of time and stress!!).

    How many cans of paint did you need to completely cover the cabinet? Also, did this require more than one coat of paint?
