Well it took a little while for Mike to level his alt jobs, but finally over the last week or so he finished all of the role quests for Shadowbringers and Endwalker. This video will have some spoilerinos for the main MSQ for Endwalker and Shadowbringers but not for the Role Quests so go and do them! It turns out some of them (Shadowbringers in particular) will likely have some serious implications for where the story is going now endwalker has been wrapped up. Which role quests have you done, just your main or did you level them all?
I did all of them (completionist haha), but I absolutely loved the Shadowbringer ones and the fact that more optional quests open up afterwards that are now heavy hints at what they had planned in Endwalker with this current patch!
The role quests in Shadowbringers (after figuring out that they are all to do with the Warriors of Darkness through my main) actually motivated me to get one job in each role to max level, especially when I found out about the bonus questline that you get for doing all of them! When I first heard they were doing away with job quests for role quests, I was a little disappointed but I've really grown to love what they've done with the role quests so far.
I was slow in getting my different jobs leveled for the quests . While playing shb, I had only done ranged and magic dps, because I was dual leveling them. I did finally do job quests for shb and ew. Currently, I’m working on getting the rest of the jobs to at least 80 so I can get that mount and also be ready for future quests
I guess for me what threw me off is not that he got into ff14 but what gets him hooked on At first I thought preach like asmon probably gonna like the game overall but if he’s hooked on Always thought it gonna be the raids (even asmon favorite is the raid) but well the story and community content (contest party ross braggardt etc) was what got him hooked
Regarding the Ishgard EW rolequest, this is the first time I've ever seen a jRPG seriously take on the idea of "the church / religion's role in society". Your typical jRPGs never go deeper than "LOL evil church! Dethrone and kill God!", but in this quest it actually asks "well, what happens to society when the hero does kill its god?".
@@andrewrobillard7192 I stumbled entirely into that questline and was absolutely amazed. Makes me wonder how many secret stories there are still to be discovered.
It also doesn't fall into the stupid lazy non-solution that so-called "intellectuals" have that belief and faith are stupid and have no place in society. It's infuriating to see people rag on the religious then take everything on blind faith just because a so-called "expert" says so, often financially or politically motivated to shill for certain positions. To me personally, faith in a belief at least is generally tied to trying to be better people and live better lives. Faith in "experts", politicians, grifters is just an exercise in naivety. Better a bible than news sponsored by Pfizer.
@@andrewrobillard7192 isnt that the one where you need to clear the manderville questlines as a prerequesite? i think most people dont know that quest exists because of that
Another reason to level other jobs is that it makes you a better overall player. You know not to move around too much or spin the boss as a tank because you have BEEN the melee person weeping as you try to hit positionals. You know to try hard to not drop AOEs on casters because you've BEEN the caster who just wants to cast. You know how important it is to hit your cooldowns as a tank because you've BEEN the healer desperately trying to keep the tank up who refuses to use them. You know how important it is to try not to get hit as DPS because you've BEEN the healer struggling to juggle everyone's health. Sure, you can learn these lessons by having people tell them to you, but you learn them much MUCH deeper when you've had the experience of suffering on the other side. ESPECIALLY as a tank. If you're a tank main, please level other jobs so you can see just how much your actions affect the WHOLE party.
There is a cutscene in Shadowbringers where the role quest NPCs visit you at the inn and you get different versions for each character as well as a bonus Cyella if you've done all 4. If you want to check it out in the Unending Journey it's "Echoes of a Fallen Star" cutscene 2 under Post-Shadowbringers Main Scenario Quests. The entire crew also shows up towards the end of The Heroes' Gauntlet dungeon and Giott makes a short appearance in the current Hildibrand quest. I love how much doing certain side content adds to the overall experience without taking away from those who don't.
And if you are caught up on the Endwalker MSQ quests and have done the Shadowbringers Rolequests you can have a small new conversation with Cyella now discussing what has happened in the MSQ.
If you enjoyed Aymeric's role quests, I recommend doing the Scholasticate Quests in Ishgard. They involve a familiar face from the Hildibrand quests, give you lore on how the church is dealing with the ending of HW, plus you get a cool glam and emote!
He's done it already, and before starting Stormblood even. IIRC he even made a video about things that we might miss in Heavensward if we're just rushing the MSQ, and that questline was one of them.
The best part about the Shadowbringers role quests+extra questchain is if you did them before the last part of Eden came out. Seriously, anyone who has finished those quests later then their first runs of Eden, go to an inn/your home, hit up The Unending Journey. Re-watch the Eden cutscenes from just before you unlock E9. There is an option where you can tell (villainous character) the secret identity of (someone who worked for them) and it briefly throws off their groove in a way that delights me to my core.
love how the LORE of this game isnt tucked away in a book you have to buy to know things. Rather, its in the game off to the side for your to do. feels great knowing the backstory of characters that enrich the world. Great video, was there each stream to watch these unfold. Yes, some are hit and miss with fullfillment but none the less it was all worth to see it come together in the FINAL quest that unlocks.
In terms of world-building side stories, I feel like FFXIV approach is the best: It's in-game, so no having to go out and blow money on more out-of-game media. It's optional: You're not interested, and just want to raid/PvP/play mahjong? That's fine, it's not mandatory. It's rewarding: You ARE interested, and wanna see more? Game rewards you with little nods to what you've done.
There are lore books although they're written in more of an encyclopedic style to just extrapolate further on some parts of the world, but it's still not too significant as they've also eventually put stuff from those books in the game. For example if you had read them before 5.55/endwalker you would have known some tidbits about Fourchenault before he was properly introduced in the game proper.
My understanding is that the encyclopedias were written in lore by a historian with a bit of a bias so it’s written by an unreliable narrator which makes it even more interesting.
@@LucificNight how is it rewarding? the quests are just dialogue + walking. Thats not rewarding, thats a book/webstory where i have to run around instead of turning the page... Which makes it being in-game kinda pointless if its not a game but just a worse book :D I know its a limitation cause engine is shit and SE is a smol company so they possibly cant fix their flagship MMO title ( kekW ) but man, atleast add SOMETHING
I will say, without spoiling, I disagree with the rank for EW's caster quests, but largely because 1) the main enemy felt plugged in from somebody's backside, and 2) the post-HW church story, I thought, was done already in 3.1 and 3.2. Was the latter point as much detail as this role quest? No. But it would be like someone in Disney deciding to go back and make a 4-hour movie all about the plot that brought down Jabba the Hut and freed Han Solo, with the main antagonist being one of the commanding officers from the first Death Star when it blew. That's how I felt with the EW Caster quests, but I know everyone else has their own opinions on it.
I've been playing solely as a dragoon since I started in 2021. I had absolutely no intention of taking on another job - that was until I found out about the caster role quest in Ishgard from a friend. They swore to me I needed to play it, but also recommended the wrap-up quests in Shadowbringers and EW. So - I did what you did - I leveled one of every type of job outside of melee dps, MCH, WHM, WAR, and SMN. I was *terrified* to heal and tank. I've never done either before in ANY game. So not only did I *thoroughly* enjoy the role quests to fill in my lore addiction, I found myself actually enjoying tanking. Who knew!? (Healing is OK - but it still scares me. XD )
I used to only ever play melee DPS but having to level all the different types of jobs made me discover my penchant for magical ranged support DPS not only in FF14 but other games as well. The role quests are great for broadening your horizons which can be considered an additional adventure itself.
The one character from HW that is involved with the ShB has been someone people went back to constantly patch after patch. Sometimes there was something, sometimes there wasn't. They were just there, constantly. Then you get the role quests and finally something happens. Obviously after this recent patch, that NPC was the first person I went to after finishing the MSQ. I wasn't disappointed.
@@hristopavlov298 yep, there is also the hidden paladin in ShB which you find out after you finish all role quests, even after you finish the quest line that opens to you, there is one more extra quest hidden that you need to find on a different map Its a yellow quest, so it wont be easy to find Who knows, who might this paladin turn out to be
10:41 Mike talking about the ranged DPS quests in Endwalker: "And we're going to meet someone else." *stares intently* Me who has done them already: YAAAASSSSS I have just the tank role quests to go in both ShB and EW, and I can't wait for the bonus quests!
It's a lot, but worth leveling all the jobs. Not just for their own story, but they open up extra stuff to chat about in MSQ, Raids, sidequests to all other stuff. Pretty deep world with so many characters! Many tie into Tatarus quest in endwalker remembering past stuff :-) It's like a huge novel. With deep chapters left out I'd you don't see it from all jobs perspectives. Not just in Shadowbringer. Glad you did this! Bully for you! Impressive! Not many will do this. The dialog changes so much that can make huge story events WAY more meaningful and relative. I'm happy you have enjoyed this game! We are happy to have you! You're a gamer just like us. Glad to be a fan.
Great vid! The way I think about it, even though we had the whole expansion of Shadowbringers going on, places like Ishgard, Ala Mhigo and Doma never fully got their moments of closure, and all of these absolutely nailed it. I think having some time apart and then going back to them for it made it all the sweeter.
Personally Role quests are so critically important in the grand scheme of things that I pity those who either ignore them doing the bare minimum or skipping through them because at the end both Shadowbringers and Endwalker finales I just remember thinking "Oh my god everything makes sense now".
The devs just need to bite the bullet and assume the player has done every piece of major story going forward. Maybe in case the player hasn't done the logical prerequisites, add a popup saying "This quest follows on the X storyline. You can start it by speaking with NPC Y in location Z". Them creating quest starting dependencies has become extremely limiting to what they can do in the game. Making Crystal Tower mandatory was a huge design misstep (which also furthered the negative aspects in the alliance raid roulette environment). There's the possibility of making extremely interesting story content tied to gameplay that will never happen because the devs have create an issue that didn't need to exist.
It's funny you posted this today Mike as I literally just finished the EW role quests today. Not that I just got to this point but finally remembered I had the ranged physical line to finish. Would agree that the bonus quest after completing all 5 is definitely worthwhile.
Doing the ranged physical role quest for Endwalker... it was awe inspiring. Beyond that guest appearance (yeah, I cheered), I loved the closure. The theme of Doma citizens being conscripted and families torn apart was so pivotal to their story that I sincerely appreciate that it got even more screen time. IMO, the Doma reconstruction quest line (in addition to the "sell stuff for more gold" bonus) started us down the "beyond the MSQ" road to closure, and the ranged physical role quest put a beautiful cap on it.
The thing that Square do SO well is they don't invalidate the earlier stuff. It's like if, in WoW, a Shadowlands quest sent you back to Elwyn Forest to do something, or to Northrend or whatever. They manage to keep the whole game alive in a way that no other MMO does.
Makes me think of how when the burning legion invaded Azeroth, they pretty much just meant the new zones. Here, we got a full storyline for most of the main zones and how they dealt with the final days.
Don't praise SE, it's all Business Unit 3's hard work that has culminated to this. Its like thanking Amazon/microsoft for the good NA samaritan that helped the elderly cross the road.
I think the funniest part of the Warriors of Darkness is the fact that they each took/had to take an alias on the Source due to name conventions Branden became Blanhaerz as he’s a Galdjent but now a “Roegadyn” Nyelbert became Naiabert as he’s an Elf but now an “Elezen” Lamitt became Lamimi because she’s a Dwarf but now a “Lalafell” Renda-Rae became J’rhoomale because she’s a Mystel but now a “Miqo’te” (probably the weirdest shift of all the names, she could’ve easily called herself R’enda, though being called Enda by her closest friends to keep face might’ve been awkward) And Ardbert became. . .Arbert Even he called it a stupid change
Also started a year ago + a few months. So true about the 'Nothing left to do" comment at the end! Very true that bonus Shadowbringer role quest line has setup/information for Endwalker. I'm happy I did all role quest for Shadowbringers, well worth the time. The EW role quest lines happen during the EW MSQ, so it provides more insight to how the "commoners" handle the really serious situation the world is in. And the bonus quest is a hint that things still aren't all rosy and safe.
I love how doing all the Shadowbringers role quests opened up extra cutscene possibilities during the patches. And I absolutely adored how different and somber the tone was for the super secret option when you’ve done everything. :D
Just as a tip - adhering to your advice in the video - something interesting happens once you complete the ShB role quests (and have completed the Warring Triad quests) and go visit the Rising Stones Solar. This was there during ShB, however when you finish this, you can also get further updated dialogue for the most recent patch. It's a little thing that they didn't need to add - most devs wouldn't remember! It's locked behind layers of non-mandatory side questing, but they still did it, and it has fascinating implications.
@@Puffinbar I hope you enjoy! If you're not seeing anything there might be another trigger I missed, but I think all it requires is completing the Warring Triad quests as well as the ShB role quests.
i'm pretty much indebted to my friend that told me i need to leveling other role classes before entring Shadowbringers (i was still at Stormblood playing only PLD/DRK/GNB back then) Was one of the best advice i ever got in XIV, and it'll also indirectly made me learn how other role plays in the battle content so i could appreciate them more when someone doing a mistake in the battle.
I did ALL the job quests before continuing the MSQ, it added quite a lot to my enjoyment to see those characters showing up and recognizing me or getting more context etc.
Oh, thank you so much! I'm pretty sure I've missed the extra quest. Looking for it I've found a 90 one around Meghaduta related to the new patch which is shaping nicely. So very glad to have found it, which I wouldn't without having seen this to spur me to looking for the extra quest. And thanks also for when I find that one.
I wish you had a separate spoiler video so you can discuss why your rankings are the way they are. I mean, it's great you have remaining non-spoiler a priority, but I'd be very interested as to why you came to what you've come to.
@@Phryguye Who said about that? My name is my character name. Search me on lodestone, you know I've done literally everything. I don't need his opinions to make up my mind, I like talking to people about what they feel and think on the story. I don't look to be changed or for any justification. I come at it as a means to share how we see the story. And if both of us have a greater understanding of the same story by sharing points we found strong or weak together, that's a bonus. I just want to hear, and to share in it.
I'm so glad I finished the ShB role chain and the follow-up chain that ties into a different chain from all the way back in HW, and ties into the most recent EW patch. Damn this quest team is good!
I wonder if they'll eventually make things mandatory like they did with ARR Crystal Tower. The final quest after the ShB job chain was just so juicy. I'd feel bad for people going into 7.0 and beyond without it.
Problem is that would require everyone to level 4 jobs to 80 and I don't see SE forcing people to do that. If they were going to make those quests required, I suspect they would modify them so you could do them after completing one Role questline.
@@brynphillips9957 Well we just got two jobs that can start them. Next expansion jobs will likely start at 80 so won't even have to level to finish them.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the extra quests that unlock after the role quests in EW will have ramifications later on. After all, we didn't know we would be heading to the Thirteenth when doing the role quests in Shadowbringers. Garlemald's restoration or the peoples' relocation will have to be a thing at some point, especially if we go to Corvos/Locus Amoenus as that location was mentioned numerous times in the EW MSQ.
I love that you are exploring things that long time players never saw before either. This is like the Werlyt questlines, the level 70 extremes, and extra dungeons that I learned through you as well. Thanks a ton.
Eh, interestingly enough I found the Limsa questline amazing, with major events happening, great scenes etc, and the Gridania one kinda trash until the very end where it picks up a bit. I can't believe they made us fight apocalypse monsters on the regular shroud ARR battle theme, and put so little effort in the direction of all the cutscenes save for the final fight.
yeah I loved the Limsa questline, though I am more fond of the Company of Heroes than the average player. I also love Merlwyb to death, and for some reason, I have an affinity for stories where someone is forced to kill a member of their own family for the greater good. So it was right up my alley.
There's a fun little bit of variant dialogue when you first speak to Giott. If you're not a Lalafell, or you're a Lalafell but you're wearing the dwarf hat with the beard and yellow-eyes-in-the-dark look, Giott says something like "huh never seen you around before". But if you're a lala who's not dressed "appropriately" Giott tells you off for shaving your beard and showing your face openly instead. For bewildered lalas starting their first role quest early in ShB, the significance of this is only revealed later in the expansion.
i've done the role quests and even though I'm aware NPC dialogue changes after you do quests, i never thought to go back to the Shadowbringers land after Endwalker 6.2
If you enjoy FFXIV's storytelling generally, then there is not a single piece of content that is not worth it. Obviously some things are better than others, but every job (including crafters and gatherers) has stories, and while some aren't amazing, most are worth at least seeing. There's a silly questline involving post-moogles that lets you revisit other, non-msq questlines. There is a quest in Labyrinthos that gives you an update on things that happened during ARR MSQ. The tribal quests are all worth playing. While trying to clear the map of quests while leveling is very very overwhelming, utilizing all those quests while leveling your other jobs introduces so much more richness to the world.
Similarly, I would also recommend finishing the Eureka storyline before 7.0 comes out, since Krile is apparently going to play a more prominent role in the 7.0 MSQ.
I'll never understand why people dont like Kan-E... Yes, she is calm and collected and doesnt really share much about herself, but her devotion to her office and her people, and actually the entire realm, are obvious. She doesnt come barging in, yelling and shouting, she is a quiet persona. The power and authority she wields are not on the nose, but they are there from the beginning. And honestly, all that make her much more interesting as a character that someone who is "just" charismatic and outspoken, flailing a swort about. I didnt like Garlemald, or rather the story of the people. I felt like an inGame version of North Korea and I dont think the writers intented anything else. It felt like smashing your head against groundless propaganda at every turn, the zone was depressing (again, by design) and it was just utter frustration from beginning to end (the end being that cutscene and our dinner and the awesome solo duty after :) ). No doubt, this was intended but that doesnt make me like it any better. Also, I found the reasons they gave us for creating the Ilsebard Contingent waaaaaaay to idealistic. If they would've given me an economic reason (like the reasons for the Marshal Plan in Germany after WWII), I would be game, but this "ohmygoshwegottahelpitssoterrible" ... it kinda turned me off. Heh, I started FF14 I watched a lot of videos, just to get an idea of the game (thank goodness, no major spoilers...). And one of those videos was a show-off of the Amaro mount: a special reward if you level up all jobs to lvl 80 ! So, I was maybe lvl15 or so on my first job... it was during or before 5.2 ... and I was like "Imma get that mount!!". That I would be rewarded with these awesome stories, was just the bonus on top - and I recommend everyone, who enjoys a nice story, to do them. Each and every one of them! (Quality may vary ^^°) My favorite role quests? Caster, in both expansions :) 2nd being healer in ShB and tank in Endwalker.
I've always thought that Endwalker didn't make sense since after the first trial, that something THIS important should be happening simultaneously all over Eorzea. Then I did all the role quests plus the wrap up mission and I really like how FFXIV handled it in the end. The best way I can describe it is that they made a big compromise since people having all roles leveled up is often the exception, not the rule. So these incidents after the first trial have to be trapped inside a time bubble to make sure that they are available to those who decide to do these role quests later. I think it was also done this way since if these role quests are all done as part of the MSQ, there would be a specific sequence that these scenarios have to be done, instead of people getting the freedom to choose based on what they have access to and what they want to see/do first. I really like the implications of the Shadowbringers role quests as well as what happens afterwards in regards to 6.1 and beyond. Maybe in the future they will somehow find a way to incorporate the ShB role quests as part of the MSQ, assuming they do something big with it similar to what happens the Crystal Tower raid series. Heck, why stop with Crystal Tower? This approach would be a good way towards making old content relevant again especially if it's related to the MSQ as a whole: Void Ark, Warring Triad, Alexander and Omega, Eden etc., Imagine if some of the characters of these raids become a major part of the MSQ, with voiced lines and all. That'd be great to see.
They are doing that to some extent! There are several Endwalker quests that have involved previous raid characters; if you go back to Rising Stones Solar and talk to your friend there (assuming Warring Triad quests are done), they'll have a questline for you. Visit the Sharlayan docks and there's a hook that leads back to Omega. And I think it may well be fair to say that the Void Ark stuff will see a lot more action going forward (Scathach straight up got name-dropped in Troia after all).
I rushed the role quests back in 5.0 and was so pleasantly surprised with how amazing they each were, on top of the conclusion to them all. The bag was a bit more mixed in Endwalker, but I did love how they each tied into The Rising short stories. The ending quest was quite strong as well and has me curious to see where they take this questline when they follow it up.
I like both sets of role quests, but I appreciated the Endwalker ones more all in all for how they developed not just various characters but also the world. I felt like outside of a bit of the later patch content in Shadowbringers we've been pretty in the dark about what's actually happening in Eorzea and Doma in these expansions, and the Endwalker role quests went a long way toward remedying that and reminding us that this world keeps going even when we're not there.
Some of the crafter/gatherer questlines are pretty great too, while most are more fun than serious. The Alchemy questiline has some pretty astounding revelations. The newer "role quest" hubs for crafters/gatherers in ShB and EW are great fun too, and have a follow up quest for clearing it all. But they're more heart warming / cute than serious. The large relevance to the story line of the ShB role wrap up is a little annoying at times, as it provides information that would have logically altered some of the MSQ actions if it was available to all. But i'm really glad they did it anyway, shows they don't have to just play things safe.
It's a realy good thing to level other jobs. I can tell which ranged dps never healed as they are those who stand too far away from healers. The tanks who didn't play caster dps who don't group mobs and keep them in a ring. etc. But if you want to level a class and you truely don't enjoy playing it, there's always the option of running your daily frontline with the class you want to level, and switching class once your inside.
EW Healer quest spoilers: I really loved the healer quest for Endwalker. When Fordola starts to turn and you realize that that hardass persona she puts up is just a front and inside she feels so much guilt for what she's done that she feels like she doesn't deserve to live. Fucking brutal.
One thing in defense of the Merlwyb quest: Lorens was a pretty debated character talked about in lore groups. He being the leader of the Company of Heroes is mentioned way back in the Moogle questlines (that Mike did), so it was nice actually seeing him
I main DPS and I was so interested in wanting to do the role quests for ShB and learning about the other warriors, that I fully leveled a tank and a healer for the first time since starting with the game in ARR Beta.
I pushed through WAR relic weapon from ARR, thinking I would like the end look of the axe, but in the end, I actually became more fond of the axe, that Ardbert wields. Such nostalgia every time I look at it on my back, and feels more right to wield, than any other axes for WAR
I wish I could say the beginning is a lie and everyone would want to do role quests, but my GOD, the amount of people in chat saying "What questline is this?" was amazingly high :D glad Mike did them and enjoyed them.
I appreciate him doing that on stream because a lot of people may not have the time or energy to level up one of each role. Making such deep plot locked behind so much is mind of rough but damn it’s a nice reward for doing all that leveling. So glad I did both.
I went through Shadowbringers as a dancer and machinist, so I have only done that quest line. It’s encouraging to know the others are more interesting!
Preach, trust. Level crafters/gatherers and do the crafter/gatherer role quests, especially EW role quests. Worth your time if you like this kinda stuff.
I finished the role quests in Shadowbringers before Endwalker came out. But when I found out we were returning to the void in Endwalker, I immediately thought about the characters in the role SHB role quests. And now, I am patiently waiting for them to play their part in what is to come!
oooh its very intriguing. I only finished main heavensward story, and cant wait to see what next, but also I cant stop myself from leveling all alts xD I love their class stories and now I see that there also a ROLE story. really cool
@@jaeusa160 I hope it's never, is already a pain to humor the cultists who keep annoying streamers to pick or change to lalas with "sub goals". bunch of weirdos
I wonder how much of an impact starting in gridania and having leveld WHM impacted my love for the Tank EW quests. They were by far the most interesting and exciting quest to me! I was a little disappointed with the others after because I was maining GNB so i hit that first.
12:10 what you mean like a GIANT WORLD ENDING SWORD sticking out of the planet that not a single world leader references or mentions ever again after the expansion? Who'd do that...
I was pleased to see you agreed largely on the placement of the role quests, though the magical dps in shb is my favorite instead, because I think it's horrifically tragic how even with that much of his core being stripped away, he's still trying to save his friend. But yeah, the healer quest in endwalker is the only role quest that has made me bawl as of yet. I did all of them ew and shb, but still have dark knight(which will be my last intentionally), black mage, and machinist to do. But God the healer role quest was amazing. Perhaps a touch cheesy and illogical during the final confrontation(mild spoilers, but wtf was Arenvald doing there?!?), but really, I will new game + it at some point.
Loved the role quests so much, esp both healer ones. Though the Shadowbringers Healer one I love for Giott. the humor mixed in, made it so good. Add in the Fedola side of the healer in EW. I will admit when Dynamis played near the end, it had me in tears. The writing is so good, that doing these side stories are so worth doing. For the record a few of my static and I have theorized we may be seeing a Garlemald restoration like Ishgard.
EW role bonus quest probably isn't over if it's similar to Shb. Probably will get one in 6.4 or 6.5. Check out void quest which continues after the bonus quest
I nvr left an expansion before id di every side quest, msq, blue quest,dungs/trials/raids and every class lvl up so i saw all these bonus ones. Nice going Mike took a while but definitley worth it.
i never play healer, so i haven’t unlocked those yet for shadowbringers or endwalker. maybe i’ll try healer out once i finish leveling some of my dps alts
I expect it to happen next time (assuming he's still on board the FF train which I hope so). It didn't happen yesteryear only because he had only just started to play, methinks.
I also liked how it showed more of how the elementals interact with and protect Gridania. It struck me that I had never realised that out of all the areas in ARR, the actual forested areas of Gridania have some of the least signs of damage from the Calamity.
my only issue with it was that I would have really liked for the braided female Serpent Keeper to have been involved rather than the utterly generic looking one they chose
I never would have considered going back to the role quests as in shadowbringers i did the psysical dps one and it was cute but eh, wasnt outstanding to me, but with that Info i will defo go back to them, gotta Level a couple few more Jobs for it tho Thanks for this Video
You should definitely replay the 6.1 MSQ after finishing off all of the bonus quests in Shadowbringers. Adds a lot to certain cutscenes. And as another example of how so many things in FF14 tie together, there's even a special dialogue option in the EW Healer role quest if you have completed M'Naago's custom delivery quest line.
If you liked the caster quests from EW than you should try the Scholasticate questline. It’s a chain of side quests from HW that deals with some of the same stuff.
Hope those Displates get back soon, I completely missed those and got messaged by my younger sister that she had gotten one. All I could say was: "I want one", only to discover they weren't available.
Mike is right: if you like the MSQ you should definitely do these quests. Totally changed my perception of Kan-E-Senna too. Lol - how come Fordola isn't a spoiler when 'someone you might have missed' is?
If you're the type that just can't be bothered to level multiple jobs, SE actually built in a solution for you. Beast tribe quests. They are incredibly easy, and take maybe 10 minutes to do all 3 daily quests per tribe. These can be used to not only level up alts with minimal effort involved, but also grind tribe reputation that gives access to shops with items not normally available to shops, minions, mounts, etc.
If you loved the lore, or characters, you must do the role quests. You must. Those bonus gold missions truly are great. They really did belong in the msq. Also, when we getting that Endwalker review Mike?!
Now that you have done the EW Role quest you should go to the Pillars and seek out Mathye. He starts a quest chain that deepens the layers to the onion that is Heavensward's story. If you have done any Hildi quests a certain character makes a reappearance though not to foil the Gentleman of Light. I really think you should give it a go. You also get /spectacles emote for completing the quest chain.
I agree with your ranking of the ShB role quests. I main AST, play DRK almost as much, then play DNC a smidge and almost no RDM, so I got spoiled by a fantastic healer story, and really good tank quest, and then they started getting worse and worse
I lost my shit when a particular reference to FFX popped up in the final Tank role quest of EW. I thought I was just over thinking it until another friend went through it and asked me if I noticed it as well.
I actually went out of my way to level 1 of each role before leveling the jobs I actually wanted to level, just so I could do them all. Glad I did!
There are just other things I want to do than role quest right now. I'm easily distracted by crafting things for Gil and shopping for glamors.
Still crazy for me to see preach fall this deep into ff14 been following him as a kid when I was into wow now I’m 29 and watching him do this is dope
I know how you feel, been watching Preach since MoP pre patch dps guides xD I was so happy when he decided to hop on the ff14 train!
@@Dauth312 same lol
I guess for me what threw me off is not that he got into ff14 but what gets him hooked on
At first I thought preach like asmon probably gonna like the game overall but if he’s hooked on Always thought it gonna be the raids (even asmon favorite is the raid) but well the story and community content (contest party ross braggardt etc) was what got him hooked
@@S1lvermoon yup I felt the same! started for the raids, stayed for the impeccable community and story
Ikr? It feels like an alternative line of time.
There's a "Scholasticate" side story questline from post-HW that I would highly recommend checking out
@@andrewrobillard7192 I stumbled entirely into that questline and was absolutely amazed.
@@andrewrobillard7192 isnt that the one where you need to clear the manderville questlines as a prerequesite?
i think most people dont know that quest exists because of that
@@TheGraveyarder it turns up as a standard side quest in ishgard after you finish Hildibrands ARR questline yes
And if you are caught up on the Endwalker MSQ quests and have done the Shadowbringers Rolequests you can have a small new conversation with Cyella now discussing what has happened in the MSQ.
even the crafter jobs have incredible stories in them, alchemist in particular jumping out in my mind
the care they have for storytelling runs DEEP
goldsmith lala headbut. enough said :D
@@kn0bhe4d that's awesome! Hopefully some commentors will get inspired to go do them as well. 😁
he did it even before starting SB
In terms of world-building side stories, I feel like FFXIV approach is the best:
It's in-game, so no having to go out and blow money on more out-of-game media.
@@gateauxq4604 Yeah, classic. It means they can retcon it when they please and say it was biased.
4:45 He said 'penchant'. There it is guys, Mike is officially a final fantasy gamer.
Great job, the Role Quests are absolutely amazing.
Healing is never not scary you just learn to stop caring about people dying coz you can just rez them when they learn not to stand on aoes
Are you referring to a side character for trials?
@@hristopavlov298 yep, there is also the hidden paladin in ShB which you find out after you finish all role quests, even after you finish the quest line that opens to you, there is one more extra quest hidden that you need to find on a different map
Its a yellow quest, so it wont be easy to find
Who knows, who might this paladin turn out to be
10:41 Mike talking about the ranged DPS quests in Endwalker: "And we're going to meet someone else." *stares intently*
Me who has done them already: YAAAASSSSS
I have just the tank role quests to go in both ShB and EW, and I can't wait for the bonus quests!
It's a lot, but worth leveling all the jobs.
Not just for their own story, but they open up extra stuff to chat about in MSQ, Raids, sidequests to all other stuff.
Pretty deep world with so many characters!
Many tie into Tatarus quest in endwalker remembering past stuff :-)
It's like a huge novel.
2:28 that cutscene always pulls at my heartstrings. That and Elidibus last line in 5.3 are the two parts of Shadowbringers that actually made me cry.
The void quest set up the current patch quests
It is amusing that the 2 big EW role quest winners were the Stormblood ones.
@@deepdarksecretful you are correct, sir.
I think the funniest part of the Warriors of Darkness is the fact that they each took/had to take an alias on the Source due to name conventions
Branden became Blanhaerz as he’s a Galdjent but now a “Roegadyn”
Nyelbert became Naiabert as he’s an Elf but now an “Elezen”
Lamitt became Lamimi because she’s a Dwarf but now a “Lalafell”
Renda-Rae became J’rhoomale because she’s a Mystel but now a “Miqo’te” (probably the weirdest shift of all the names, she could’ve easily called herself R’enda, though being called Enda by her closest friends to keep face might’ve been awkward)
And Ardbert became. . .Arbert
Even he called it a stupid change
ROFL THATS HILARIOUS
Yup, its WORTH IT. People who say its not worth doing it have no idea what they're missing. If you're big on MSQ, you have to do the role quests.
Ohhh I talked to the Crystarium people but I haven’t been to the Rising stones. I’ll check it out!
@@Puffinbar I hope you enjoy! If you're not seeing anything there might be another trigger I missed, but I think all it requires is completing the Warring Triad quests as well as the ShB role quests.
i'm pretty much indebted to my friend that told me i need to leveling other role classes before entring Shadowbringers (i was still at Stormblood playing only PLD/DRK/GNB back then)
Was one of the best advice i ever got in XIV, and it'll also indirectly made me learn how other role plays in the battle content so i could appreciate them more when someone doing a mistake in the battle.
I did ALL the job quests before continuing the MSQ, it added quite a lot to my enjoyment to see those characters showing up and recognizing me or getting more context etc.
I appreciate the way this video is done, I still need to finish Ranged Physical for Endwalker, but could still watch.
Alternatively, you could play through the content yourself. You don't need an internet stranger's opinions to make your mind up for you right?
@@Phryguye That's certainly true, but that makes it all the better when you can compare your own conclusions to others and see what they think.
Great video, I like the tie-ins w/o the spoilers! It's much appreciated, and I cannot wait to get back into this game!
Next expansion jobs will likely start at 80 so won't even have to level to finish them.
i did all the job quests that the physical dps interact with so i recognized everyone. i won't say anything else about it because spoilers.
10:40 YES DO THEM DIRTY KING WOAH
Not sure if you're interested, but there is a set a quests like the role quests for crafters and gatherers as well
There's a fun little bit of variant dialogue when you first speak to Giott.
I JUST finished both the ShB and EW Role Quests and their Final Role Quests and they are amazing especially the ShB one. Super relevant.
You get a mention in the 6.3 MSQ for completing the Endwalker bonus quest.
Loving your way to motivate people to do stuff without spoilers.
What a top tier video Mike! ShB role quests are more relevant than ever now.
Still waiting for that Endwalker review video though... 👀👀
Similarly, I would also recommend finishing the Eureka storyline before 7.0 comes out, since Krile is apparently going to play a more prominent role in the 7.0 MSQ.
Damn it! I don’t enjoy eureka that much and I’m in pagos (?)
Will try to get this done before 7.x starts
(Quality may vary ^^°)
My favorite role quests? Caster, in both expansions :) 2nd being healer in ShB and tank in Endwalker.
If you level summoner scholar you get 2 roles for the price of one, speed's up the process greatly
Although Sage + Red Mage is 60 level to grind, while Scholar/Summoner is 90...
I cannot believe you rated the EW melee role quests as the worst. they were my absolute favorite.
These quests are adapted to be done before or after 6.0 ending timewise, it's not an issue
The first thing I did after doing the MSQ was go straight to check the people in the First... I was NOT dissappointed!
EW Healer quest spoilers:
I really loved the healer quest for Endwalker.
These quests are so good! Such an incredible reward for putting in the effort leveling other jobs.
2 minutes in and I'm already convinced, thank you Mike!
This is exactly what I did, When i figured out that i should do them all i leveled one to do all 5 roles now. it was fantastic.
even just the rolequests are cool, i love the "background" lore they give us
I finished the role quests in Shadowbringers before Endwalker came out. But when I found out we were returning to the void in Endwalker, I immediately thought about the characters in the role SHB role quests. And now, I am patiently waiting for them to play their part in what is to come!
And you put that out right when I decide to pry myself from the game for one year! Damn you, Preach... Damn you... I'll see to these next year!
oooh its very intriguing. I only finished main heavensward story, and cant wait to see what next, but also I cant stop myself from leveling all alts xD I love their class stories and now I see that there also a ROLE story. really cool
Please do the Tribe quest, it be really worth your time. Especially if you enjoy Hildebrand.
Preach's fave in ShB was the one with the Lalas/Dwarves. Every day we move one step closer to Lala Floor Inspector.
I wonder if he will have a moment of clarity like nobbel when he temporarily went Lala, realizing just how fun it is to do emotes and Lala things.
@@jaeusa160 I hope it's never, is already a pain to humor the cultists who keep annoying streamers to pick or change to lalas with "sub goals". bunch of weirdos
Let's hope he tries one. There's enough stuck-up idiots who would benefit from learning how fun it is to be one too.
@@AndersonFerrara as a lala main I agree. Let people play what they want
What sword? /s
@@juggernaut93 Ian that you??
I love the role quests. Thank you for covering these!
That Fordolla story should have been part of the MSQ.
The SHB role quest for healers was my favorite too. 100% agree.
Seeing Preach enjoying FFXIV makes me smile
Loved the role quests so much, esp both healer ones. Though the Shadowbringers Healer one I love for Giott. the humor mixed in, made it so good. Add in the Fedola side of the healer in EW. I will admit when Dynamis played near the end, it had me in tears. The writing is so good, that doing these side stories are so worth doing.
For the record a few of my static and I have theorized we may be seeing a Garlemald restoration like Ishgard.
I finished the shb role quests yesterday. just amazing and I am a bit mad that nobody told me how important they are for lore nerds.
Damn, that’s some dedication! Kudos to you
@@east3rcat What can i say the game story captured me and made me wanna see all avenues. No regrets .
i never play healer, so i haven’t unlocked those yet for shadowbringers or endwalker. maybe i’ll try healer out once i finish leveling some of my dps alts
I really love the Preach Team's coverage of FF. Keep them coming 😁
(And I am really hoping for a media tour invite 😊)
I expect it to happen next time (assuming he's still on board the FF train which I hope so). It didn't happen yesteryear only because he had only just started to play, methinks.
Kan-E-Senna love is so great to hear. She has the least development, but I adore what she has and want to see so much more.
I never would have considered going back to the role quests as in shadowbringers i did the psysical dps one and it was cute but eh, wasnt outstanding to me, but with that Info i will defo go back to them, gotta Level a couple few more Jobs for it tho
Thanks for this Video
You should definitely replay the 6.1 MSQ after finishing off all of the bonus quests in Shadowbringers. Adds a lot to certain cutscenes.
And as another example of how so many things in FF14 tie together, there's even a special dialogue option in the EW Healer role quest if you have completed M'Naago's custom delivery quest line.
If you liked the caster quests from EW than you should try the Scholasticate questline. It’s a chain of side quests from HW that deals with some of the same stuff.
I loved it when the SHB after roll quest made a call back to Havensword with the Waring Triad questline
Well, Fordola never left, we knew where she was.
Wow I already planned to do this but now Im definitely going to do role quests!
The only thing that bugged me about the healer ShB quest is that it made me put an enemy to sleep, so I had to add that back to my hotbar mid duty
He did it already before he started SB
@@SalkindYT damn and i missed it
I agree with your ranking of the ShB role quests. I main AST, play DRK almost as much, then play DNC a smidge and almost no RDM, so I got spoiled by a fantastic healer story, and really good tank quest, and then they started getting worse and worse
It's sooooo hard to convince people to do role quest and there is so much lore I can't talk to people about 😭. Me smiling in chat constantly
I lost my shit when a particular reference to FFX popped up in the final Tank role quest of EW. I thought I was just over thinking it until another friend went through it and asked me if I noticed it as well.
