God, as a Preston fan, playing Gillingham back these times was awful 😖. From the Play Offs in 98/99 to the opening fixture 5-0 defeat in 2001. I remember leaving the ground once after we’d been stuffed 4-0 in 2000 and a bloke shouts, “never mind lads, only another 5 hours up the motorway” 😫😭
Hessenthalers’ missus was quite cute 😮
I went to Bournemouth at the time (92- 94) and Pulis was sacked mainly because the fans turned on him because of the long ball game he brought there. Shame though because he did some good work with what he had.
Nowadays more than half the fans I know are on the clubs’ back for not having a giant stadium whilst I miss being overjoyed when they managed a draw against Bristol City Swindon Town , Pompey or Reading. I’m not certain but Tony Pulis must’ve signed Steve Fletcher in which case the fans have to be greatful for his being there ! 🙄👍

Gillingham - some supporters say best manager in the club's history. Stoke City.
Got Stoke up to the Prem and solidified them, did well at Palace. His style of play has never been pretty but it’s been effect
