      In that movie, he was portrayed as some timid unhealthy character. But I believe in reality, he was in fact the opposite. A strong, determined and stout character. What Adrien Brody portrayed was probably more like the director Polanski who also lived through the Holocaust.

    NEVER AGAIN MR. SZPILMAN; Your memory along with so many others will stay on our minds and in our hearts forever!! We will never let this happen, rest easy good man. Thank you for sharing your experience with the world, even if the book is still outlawed in Poland and Germany.

      What book outlawed in Poland ? Are you crazy ?

    • @rustyshackelford9154
      @rustyshackelford9154 6 лет назад

      Lechosław look it up, there's a few still outlawed, this may not be anymore. The foreword written by Andrzej Szpilman in the beginning of the book talks about push back from the government's to get it published

    • @Lechoslaw8546
      @Lechoslaw8546 6 лет назад +2

      I don't know what are you talking about. Please provide details or a link. I can't imagine anything could be outlawed, there is no censorship in Poland.
      There must be sg else at stake.

    • @rustyshackelford9154
      @rustyshackelford9154 6 лет назад

      All it said in the foreword in the book is that it took a very long time to get it published because of politics. Read up on it.

      I bought that book /Pianist/ in Poland a few years ago, at this moment I am unable to check it because I am physically in the USA and will stay here for a while. Anyway, the book is not unlawed in Poland. The film "Pianist" was much more popular within Poland than it was in the USA.
      What I think this matter may have something to do with a personal conflict among a singer Wiera Gran en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiera_Gran on one side and Władysław Szpilman and Jonas Turkow on the other.
      Gran and Szpilman worked and performed in the same restaurant in the Warsaw Ghetto until July 1942 . After the war ended Szpilman and Turkow testified as witnesses in the Court against Gran accusing her of being informer for German Gestapo police, Turkow did it again in the Israeli Court.
      In return Gran published a book "Sztafeta Oszczerców" in which she accused Szpilman and Turkow being a Jewish policemnn inside Ghetto, she also claimed the two wrecked her life and her singer carreer after the war. Later another book got published based on interviews with Gran by Tuszyńska, that book got publicity by the powerful Gazeta Wyborcza, a Soros left wing daily newspaper. It resulted in a long anti-defamation lawsuit by Andrzej and Halina Szpilman against Tuszyńska. That years long and turbulent lawsuit finally came to end in summer 2016 mostly in favour for Szpilman.
      By some reason that newspaer disliked Szpilman and was fueling unfavourable publicity against him.
      I personally liked "Pianist" very much and consider it best Holocaust film ever made outside Poland, but I also remember it had very negative reviews and reception in the media when it was shown in the USA in 2003, despite the fact it was internationally acclaimed film that won highest award.
      I am convinced Szpilman was a man of high moral standard and his memoirs reflect truth., the smearing campaign against his name was disgusting. Anytime I passby in a trolley or walking by the house he found hiding during Warsaw uprising in 1944 I look upon this building, it is a large building on a major street aleje Niepodległości, not same as shown in the movie, that building survived the war. I also walked Narbutta street with friends of mine in 2016 to see the house where he worked in a construction site after being saved from deportation to Treblinka, that house also stands.

    Musical talent huge and rarely seen. A very good and positive person in his private life. If You are here, You can know better his soul and mind - because his beautiful music is here, is here with us together. Great film about his history. About history too.
    Osiągnął wirtuozerię w sztuce muzycznej. Niesamowite, że pomimo wojny, cierpienia... Naprawdę wielki człowiek. Znakomity film o jego losach.
