Wow! 2.25mm for socks! I use US 00! (I tend to be a bit of a loose knitter and I like my socks to almost stand up by themselves! Betsy, your extra fabric in the ankle might be because you have too much heel. Adeline is adorable! Kim, congrats on your new doggie! He's gorgeous! And enjoy making music again! Simone, our Rieu is amazing! I can't wait to see what lace goes around it.
I like how in the Rioux pattern, Jennifer Beale tells you which colour should be the background colour. I hold that one in my right hand and the dominant colour in my left hand.
Loved this podcast, especially the short row section. And also the beautiful harmony part. There is something about rural areas that just makes me so joyous. Gorgeous footage. Tell Ken he doesn't need to worry about any pressure - he has proved himself!
I love your podcast. So much interesting knits. I love that shawl. I may try that for a bridal shawl for my future daughter in law. Wedding next June! Have a great week.
I want the stormy overcast skies from the harmony part in a colorway! Fantastic skies…ok, the sunshine on some of those fields was pretty great too, but them skies were me for sure. Your lack of proper “skins” today was duly noted ;). Good luck, break legs in these last set up weeks of festival!
Aimee Sher is the designer who was on Fruity Knitting. She includes bust darts in her patterns. So do Ysolda Teague and Rebecca Clow. Always enjoy your podcasts.
Of all my socks, the ones I made with Point Prim make me the happiest and last for longer than any of the other yarns I've used. And they are wonderfully warm with the mohair. I actually use 2.00mm needles most of the time. HUgs
Love watching all the way from Sydney Australia. I wish we had more opportunity to wear handmade knits, our winters are too short and not very cold, but I love to knit and relax watching your channel and have started from the beginning as well. Keep up the fun and laughs xx
Woolly Wormhead has a new book out all about short row knitting. It is very well done and the patterns are both charted as well as written. Great woolcast, as always!
The Harmony part this time was also lovely and so beautifully matched with the music. But...I thought we were going to see the dog running free through the fields! He must be so happy for having found his forever home. Thank you girls for the great podcast (and to the director behind the scene too).
A big hug to the new furry addition to the Fleece and Harmony family! Vinny is absolutely ADORABLE!😍 I had a really good laugh when, while you were all singing his praises, a news flash came on describing his latest antic, complete with a picture that put him to "public shame" with a sign around his neck: "I steal other people's lunch and eat it. :(" LOL!!! 😂 I enjoyed this woolcast so much. First of all, my congratulations on Simone's eldest getting married! Making time for family visits (especially a major family event such as a wedding in the family) must be quite challenging, while still managing to work in the shop and work on your individual projects! My hat's off to all of you! My congratulations also to Kim who is starting with the bagpipes once again. It is quite difficult to pick up an instrument you were quite proficient in, but taking your time to start from the beginning is quite wise, in my humble opinion. I loved the shop update. I am always intrigued about what is new in the shop, especially the yarns - but those books!!! The Advent calendar!! Betsy's idea regarding the Advent calendar will definitely ignite a lot of people's imaginations! I loved the slide show for the fall Rowan magazine. The music was just gorgeous! The Martin Storey MAL is definitely tempting. I can see a lot of orders pouring in to make that Snowflower cowl. Glad to discover the Sock-a-Long is getting the success it deserves. I am sure there will be many pairs of socks on display in the weeks to come. With regards to the Point Prim Sock, I have knit socks using this very special yarn and have gifted them. It is a pure joy to knit with. Every single recipient has been very thrilled to receive them. I cannot say enough how GORGEOUS this sock yarn is. On the subject of socks - congratulations to Betsy for knitting her first pair of socks. Yayyy!!! They are quite addictive. It is a complete knitting project, with lots of twists and turns - literally quite magical. May it be the beginning of many pairs of socks that she will knit. Loved to see the progress on Simone's Rioux, as always. It is quite impressive. The colours are mesmerizing. The making of that kit of colours was quite an endeavour on its own, but anyone taking on that pattern will definitely have a beautiful heirloom piece. Simone's knitting of Rioux is just beautiful. Loved the picture with Simone's cat, Ginger Snaps, in the picture. 🥰 Last but not least - the Harmony Part. Oh those skies....and those bales of hay dotting those golden-coloured fields! It is truly a painter's dream. Those images were so very touching, as they were enhanced by such moving music. Thank you for all that you do to bring peace and beauty to our lives. 💖💖
The colour work knitting is just spectacular. I'm in awe of the tenacity necessary and obvious expertise required to knit a Katie Beale pattern. Top notch. Gorgeous colour pallet. I have yet to knit socks. The fabric created is just gorgeous. Love the alternating colours used. Adeline is definitely a possible cast-on for me. Would love to know more about the animals on the farm. Love the chat around them. Thanks all of you. Another super sit and knit-talk. ❤❤❤
I look forward to your podcasts every time they air!! I am knitting some socks and hope to post a picture soon :). I've had to knit the colorwork 3 times and now the leg twice to get the right fit for my granddaughter! I should have chosen an easier first sock project LOL! Also, for Betsy. Perhaps you might enjoy knitting socks with 2 circulars. I've tried DPN and Magic Loop for other small circumference items and have found that I prefer knitting with 2 circulars the best and it's working GREAT on my first pair of socks :) Thanks, again, ladies for another thoroughly enjoyable podcast!
I am so curious about the Sunday Short rows. I've never enjoyed short rows and I don't find them invisible so I will be checking this out. Thank you so much! Love your channel so much. I'm always excited to see another episode pop up.
Just received my advent calendar and 10 and oh my gosh I don’t know how I’m going to wait till December aargh. I was so afraid when you said you had to peek that you were going to give us spoiler alert and I had to close my eyes in my ears.😂
I did a pattern a few years ago calling for Japanese short rows, which used a stitch marker. I wonder if that is the same as the method you discussed, but I can't remember the details now.
Love it. Golden Retrievers are the best! They deserve someone’s lunch once in a while. 🐶😊 So sweet. Ours (Mattie) is now 11 years old and we cherish every day she is still with us. Give Vinny a big hug❤
Another beautiful afternoon spent with you girls. It’s raining here and we are thankful and I working away on my Celeste Sweater. Speaking of which I really struggled with her instructions for German short row shaping I ripped back and tried three times: it’s not perfect but I think I shall live with it. Next time I’ll take Betsy’s advice and do it just below the neck rib before the colourwork begins. Thank you I have learned so much from you.❤
Great episode! I’m actually excited about Rowan fall this year! And the Harmony ending - LOVED the music - definitely golden hour on the field. Thanks for all!
I'm starting a pair of socks for my sister for the first time. I think I'm going to make her a few pairs for Christmas. My favorite way is using dpns. I like 9" circulars, too, but they seem to be hurting my hands right now.
I'm volunteering at Knit City Calgary and as I walked around during set up I saw Sandy with Firefly Notes and her beautiful Advent Calendars. I told her I had seen them on your podcast! Hope to chat more with her today! Lovely Lady!
Someone mentioned socks wearing out on the balls of the foot. Amy from NobleCharacter Crafts podcast has this problem and she knits a few rows of the heel flap stitch over the ball of the foot which creates more sturdiness in that part of the sock. Enjoyed your podcast as always.
I knit the Peter Rabbit pattern. It turned out great. He now lives in Florida with my great grandson. It was so much fun to knit. I love all of Claire’s patterns.
From Golden to Golden! Welcome to Vinny....I too was laughing knowing what was going on behind the scenes. Late summer and autumn baling was my favorite time of the year. The light was 50% joy, the smell of mown wheat was 50%. The other 50% (!), was the soaking sweat and aching muscles. Seeing those skies and round bales brought it all back. Thank you. I saw Prim Sock Cherry Flush on Simone (gorgeous again!). Now I have 2 skeins, 1 pair of socks in progress and am contemplating a Babushka for fall...a holdover from my German ancestors. Busy bees are you! Love the rabbits, octopus, water shawl and, oh my stars Simone, your finished shawl!!! Wowser! What a juicy Woolcast!
Colour dominance became a reality for me when I knit “Striped Mittens, Variations on a Theme” by Robin Hansen in her book “Ultimate Mittens”. She uses yarn dominance to create the appearance of colour change without actually changing the colour order. Of course Simone and Kim are correct knowing how it works can help you eliminate it when unwanted.
Oh, Golden Retrievers are the best. My late husband and I had 2; one died after 10 years and of course we chose (after a year) to get another Goldie. They are loving, gentle, and very smart. They DO, however - love to eat, so I'm not surprised to see the clip that said the new dog ate Simone's lunch. 😊
About colour dominance: the colour you hold to the left will be slightly more prominent than the other. This is because of the direction we knit in. But it's not as if you have to pick one colour to be dominant in the entire project. It's easy to switch midrow. A friend was taught to always hold the colour that had the least number of stitches in the row to the left.
Elizabeth Zimmerman recommended adding 2 or 3 sets of short rows, distributed along length of sweater. Posture, lack of female endowment, and often just being male causes sweaters to ride up in back. ( Next time you're in a public place, check out of frequently this is true for sweaters and sweatshirts on a variety of frames.) Adding these short rows can help with this problem. I have learned that it is necessary for me and my body to do this.
It was a ‘knitters of the world ‘ feature and the knitter was American but I don’t remember her name but she had some good insight into how to knit better fitting garments
Your new dog is so cute however I am wondering what you do to control the possibility of dog or cat hair getting on the yarn in your shop? I have family that are allergic to cats and dogs so I need to check before purchasing. I think the designer Betsy is trying to think of who uses bust shaping is Natasha Hornsby who designs under the name Moonstruck Knits. Her designs are beautiful and patterns are really well written.
Hi there - the cat is a house cat and does not come out to the shop at all. The dog doesn't go into the retail shop. He has a place to sleep where we skirt the raw wool while it is being sorted. It is not likely any of his hair would get on the wool, but if it did, it would be before any of the scoring is done. By the time the yarn is scoured, spun and dyed, there is a negligible chance that any dog dander or hair would be on any of the finished yarn.
Comfortably near the a/c but thinking of winter. Can you please tell me if the cardigan Carr you showed in yor Rowan slide show is a top down or knit in several pieces bottom up?
Also about sox . Dont wear them on carpet . Wear slippers . Mine last for yrs . I use some nylon and have a lot of pairs but . I dont wear them with out slippers shoes .
I have a problem and I thought you might be the best people to ask. I know how your supposed to read a knitting chart, but I don’t know the meaning of all the symbles. I have a symble that has three lines meeting at the top. What is that called and how is it done. I have googled this and all I get is how to read the chart. This would mean so much to me if you could help me.
As we age, the need for short rows changes. It is better to do them at the top if you have kyphosis from osteoporosis fractures. The new generation of younger people who are always looking down at their phones will need more short rows because their posture is a head forward and down position. Putting short rows after a colorwork section prevents the colorwork from sitting level on the body; putting them at the top makes the colorwork sit level with the floor, even though it starts farther below the ribbing on the back neck.
Betsy, have you read Remarkably Bright Creatures? You must!
A fun packed video. Thank you. 🇬🇧
Hello ladies, a puppy! How sweet 🐾 Betsy your sock it’s lovely. I knit socks all the time and love it. Measure your feet to get your size ❤
Congratulations on your rescue pup. Sorry for your lunch Simone!😅

You are quite the trio ! I love watching your episodes I always learn something new and anyways there are always a few giggles
There is so much content in this podcast, loved every minute of it! Thank you so much.❤
Always wonderful spending time with you ladies! And thank you Ken for another Harmony Part. Loved the virtual walk in the fields!
Thank you Leanna!

Hello! ... all the way from Belfast PEI!
Woolly Wormhead has a new book out all about short row knitting. It is very well done and the patterns are both charted as well as written. Great woolcast, as always!
I found this book absolutely fascinating. I had to cast something on right away.
@@kathleencarty149 I did too! I heard that the first printing sold out before it’s release date.
I have scrawny ankles so I do ribbing from the cuff to the ankle. Check stitches at transition on second stitch in.
The Harmony part this time was also lovely and so beautifully matched with the music. But...I thought we were going to see the dog running free through the fields! He must be so happy for having found his forever home. Thank you girls for the great podcast (and to the director behind the scene too).

Earthtonesgirl has a great 9-part sock making tutorial on her youtube channel. Love the new dog. Goldens have such smiley faces!
Okay- only 3 minutes in and I have to stop and say how much I laughed ….as you are singing his praises Vinny was quietly stealing lunches😂😂😂
You ladies are the best! Thank you for another episode and thank Ken for that beautiful Harmony section. Love the music that was put to it.
Great podcast (as always!) I love how your little crochet sheep is still in the background - even when you are in your kitchen 😊
To help with the potential hole on the side of gusset, I twist the picked up stitches on the first row. Tightens it all up nicely.
As for short rows, I learned a new one doing the Resplendence shawl from Stephen West. Very simple
Simone- you could use some of that leftover yarn and your favorite motif from the shawl to knit a sock cuff…
CONGRATULATIONS Kim on your new family member...how is the cat with him? Great episode as always. 🥰🇨🇦Sharon.
We love 5 crowns!
I don't know that game so I will have to have Betsy teach me!
Thanks for the company and conversation while I worked on ripping back my sweater. Someday I’ll make a trip up to visit your beautiful island.

So much fun! I hope you gave poor Simone a sandwich! lol! What a sweet dog.
Yes we did!

That’s what I do, otherwise, I fear my socks would either be singletons, or different lengths. 😂

Kim, are you going to change the color work pattern in your "you can do it" sweater? Or just copy what is there?
No I am going to do something different unless I wimp out and just copy what's there!
